  2. Marjorie Taylor Greene 'extracts a promise' from Republican leaders for House investigation of Pelosi and DOJ Although the 2022 midterms didn’t bring the massive red wave that the Republican National Committee (RNC) was hoping for, the GOP has flipped the U.S. House of Representatives. Democrats will still have a narrow majority in the U.S. Senate, and they may even expand it slightly if incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock defeats Republican Herschel Walker in a runoff election in Georgia. But Republicans will have a narrow House majority — probably in the single digits, according to the New York Times. On Tuesday, November 15, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy was nominated for House speaker, a position presently held by Democrat Nancy Pelosi. And Pelosi, according to Washington Post reporter Jacqueline Alemany, is likely to be a target of Republican House investigations in 2023. In a tweet posted on November 17, Alemany, noting reporting from the New York Times’ Carl Hulse, reported, “In a closed-door meeting of Republicans on Monday, right-wing lawmakers including MTG extracted a promise that their leaders would investigate Pelosi & the DOJ for their treatment of defendants jailed in connection w the Jan. 6…” https://www.alternet.org/2022/11/republican-house-majority/
  3. But it is a two-edged sword. Yes, more NFL hopefuls who did not catch on there may be tempted to come to the CFL, but it also means that NFL teams are more likely to raid the CFL for our stars.
  4. Qatar makes no pretense of being anything but a dictatorship with a veneer of Islam to justify themselves. Close to 100 migrant workers were killed during the construction of the sport facilities, the authorities will not allow any display of same-sex affection and have imported several hundred Indian and Pakistani people whose job is to smile, wave and cheer while filling any empty seats during the events. These are not highly paid, but have their travel costs and lodging/food costs covered- and these are not Michelin recommended.
  5. Xi is a dictator with blood on his hands and around a million Uighurs Tibetans and other minorities in "re-education" prisons. Criticism from someone of that ilk is praise. China is still PO'd that Canada excluded Xiomi from supplying high-tech communications equipment to Canada and daring to criticize China for setting up "stations" to ostensibly help Chinese who migrated to Canada but really to spy on and threaten reprisals to them if they speak out against China.
  6. A couple of interesting things about Trump and the GOP: during Trump's 66 minutes of verbal diarrhea yesterday, security was filmed refusing to allow people to leave, and many did want to do so. The GOP is following the typical path of implosion when a party allows extremists to influence policy and direction- the extreme faction becomes more and more extreme and then the more moderate members start to resist and then the party splits down the middle. There may be a temporary reconciliation after a loss.
  7. And currently competing with our premier for "most disliked/icky premier in Canada).
  8. Spacey has had several more charges filed against him for sexual misconduct- this time in England.
  9. Should Mitchell land in Hamilton, and he is likely to, he will be the best quarterback in the East and the TiCats immediately become the odds-on favourite to win the division. Mitchell is not the force he once was, but he is still intelligent and knowledgeable about the CFL game. and can compensate for the loss of athleticism.
  10. Archaeological discoveries pretty much all over the world have found that some of our ancestors were cannibals.
  11. The BEST rye bread ever. Gonna miss it.
  12. Doubt it would be war at this point, but perhaps they will choose to fund and equip opposition forces in Belarus or cut it off completely from Europe.
  13. Are these available in Winnipeg?
  14. Anywhere within 200 kilometers of Regina is an airport.
  15. This is a desperate gesture by a failing government and will not end well.
  16. Apparently Trump believes that if he declares his candidacy, he will somehow immune from prosecution. There is no basis in law for this or even an arguable possibility of winning but that sort of thing has never stopped Trump before. He has, in the past, used the courts to intimidate others or at least delay things so that his adversary(s) will tire out. He will have a surprise or two coming.
  17. Apparently there are about $600 billion in frozen international assets awaiting adjudication. That ought to buy a lot of bricks and mortar but not the lives lost.
  18. Collaros had his ankle taped up so it was immobile and could not flex it to run. The game was almost certainly in the bag at that point
  19. Bryce Dallas Howard is much better looking, IMO.
  20. And a Russian missile crossed over "by accident" into Poland, killing two people today.
  21. Clarence Thomas Again Moves To Block Jan. 6 Inquiry That Could Implicate His Wife In a dissent on Monday, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas showed that he would have blocked enforcement of a subpoena issued by the House Jan. 6 Committee for the phone and text records of Arizona Republican Party Chair Kelli Ward. The committee is seeking Ward’s records related to her role in former President Donald Trump’s effort to steal the 2020 election as a fake elector casting ballots in the Electoral College for Trump. This is the second time Thomas has indicated that he would intervene to hamper the committee’s efforts to investigate the plot to overturn the 2020 election in which his wife, Ginni Thomas, played a role Thomas previously was the lone justice to dissent from the court’s refusal to block the release of White House records held by the National Archives to the Jan. 6 Committee. It was later revealed in March that his wife had been in communication with White House officials about Trump’s machinations to overturn President Joe Biden’s victory. Text messages between Trump’s former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and Ginni Thomas revealed the justice’s wife to be enraptured by baseless conspiracy theories about election fraud and involved in plotting with the White House to overturn Trump’s loss. Email messages from Thomas to state lawmakers, including those in Arizona, revealed her efforts to pressure Republican state legislatures to reject Biden electors and appoint fake electors in support of Trump. These fake GOP elector slates, which included Ward, could then be submitted to Congress as part of Trump’s plan to get then-Vice President Mike Pence to reject Biden’s electors and declare Trump the victor.
