I think it likely that chaos and destruction were an integral part of the aim of at least some of the "organizers". Being able to bring the city to a halt, alarm the politicians and do whatever the hell the wanted while the authorities stood by would give them a sense of power and legitimacy they lack in their own emotionally impoverished lives. For once, they would feel noticed and in control.

Tip of the iceberg- lots of sub-surface dissent that will bubble to the surface. Wait until O'Toole speaks.

Mike Pence: Trump is "wrong" that he could have overturned 2020 election Former Vice President Mike Pence had some choice words for his previous boss Friday — saying Donald Trump was "wrong" to insist earlier this week that Pence had the power to overturn the 2020 election and that the Republican Party should move on from the twice-impeached ex-president's continuing crusade to falsely cast doubt upon his loss to Joe Biden. "President Trump is wrong," Pence told a group of conservative lawyers gathered in Florida for a Federalist Society event, according to The New York Times. "I had no right to overturn the election. The presidency belongs to the American people and the American people alone." "And frankly, there is no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American president," he added. The statement marks by far Pence's strongest rebuke of Trump in the year since the duo left office. The former vice president has largely kept silent about the pressure campaign against him by Trump and his allies in the White House, saying simply that they did not "see eye to eye" about the events and choosing not to cast any blame for inciting the deadly Capitol attack onto the former president. Now, however, Pence's tune appears to be shifting after what appears to be an accidental admission earlier this week from Trump, in which he released a statement which said his ultimate goal was indeed to "overturn" the election (though he did attempt to walk back the language in a subsequent statement, saying he instead wanted to "send back the votes for recertification or approval"). It would be a mistake to underestimate the degree of fervour in the manufactured protests. The American reporter who covered the Ottawa kerfuffle reported that he was in an elevator with one of the protesters and quoted him as saying about Trudeau. "It will get better when we get him." - meaning a real threat of an attack on him. All it takes one crazed idiot. O'Toole was probably chosen because he was ex-military, and thus seen as hardline and willing to follow orders (presumably from the PC hierarchy) but it turned out he had both a spine and a functioning cerebral cortex. When he tried to nudge the party policy, the knives were sharpened. Rona Ambrose presents as intelligent and well-spoken. For all his flaws, Justin Trudeau is not stupid and the Liberal party is very adept in knowing when to change horses.

Neither is Belladonna. Just because a substance is "natural", that doesn't mean it is either useful or benign.

Any non-daytime antihistamine, really.

Third day in a row, I think. Not getting any better.

Harris also has a big edge in experience reading blocking and picking up blitzes. He is a darned good receiver, too. Regardless, the day must come when Harris' performance will degrade to where he cannot compete any more. I hope that he and the Bombers can ease him out gracefully and with his participation. -
Ah, for the good old days of the Rhinoceros party.....

Seven deaths in the past 24 hours in Manitoba, ICUs are filled up and they are talking up loosening restrictions. Unbelievable.

In any case, Trump turning on Pence and demanding that Pence be investigated should motivate Pence to tell all. In doing so, he may well torpedo his own political aspirations, but if you lie down with dogs, you are gonna get fleas.

That movie is one of my unsung favourites.

The WB cartoons have also been often cited as one of the sources of humour copied by writers and comedians to this day- along with The Muppet Show. I still love them.

They shoulda turned left at Albuquerque.

I meant 2 out of three. Chris Jones is good as entertainment for other CFL fans, but a pestilence for Elk fans.

I can see why they have kept Legghio around- a ton of potential and young enough to be around for a decade or more if he gets his poop together. -
Well, one out of three ain't too bad.

O'Toole had zero chance to rein in the nutbars in the party. They resented that he did not throw himself into the extreme anti-science, gun-promoting agenda "Christian" agenda right off the hop, and the knives were sharpened. The only reason the CPC got close to a majority in the early part of the election was that O'Toole was perceived by voters as pragmatic and progressive, and that doomed him within the party.

I cannot recall the state, but apparently an atheistic group has filed a lawsuit demanding that the Bible be removed from all schools for its promotion of incest, human sacrifice, killing of dissidents who wear the wrong clothes or plant the wrong crops, slavery and genocide.

Trump won only by voicing lies, triggering racial fears and hatred, and by a campaign of voter suppression and gerrymandering. He got away with it once and the GOP has realized that they have to corrupt the political system even further to stand another chance.

You are seeing what you choose to see. The housing shortage is being market-driven, inflation reflects the slowing of income and expenditures the federal government had to make due to the COVID crisis. Unemployment is low, so where is your argument? The majority of Canadians support progressive policies, including carbon pricing, and rather than accept restrictions on firearms and carbon pricing, the CPC rank and file chose to kill O'Toole the messenger. He was intelligent enough to realize that these policies resonated with the majority of Canadians, and he paid the price for saying it out loud. Instead of realizing that they are out of step with history and Canadian public opinion, they have retreated into unpopular dogma and are wringing their hands in self-pity.
-
I suspect that many relatively sane CPC MPs and their followers are willing to countenance a far-right leader (and all the luddite policies) so long as it means that the Liberals lose. This, essentially means sacrificing principles for a shot at power. The GOP headed in that direction some 30 years ago, and look where that took them.

Sheer is a "leader"????
