George Clooney To Produce Docuseries On Athlete Sex Abuse Where Jim Jordan Coached Actor George Clooney is producing a docuseries about decades of reported sexual abuse of athletes at Ohio State University, where Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) was once an assistant coach of the wrestling team. The series will be based on a Sports Illustrated article by writer Jon Wertheim last year addressing the allegations against the late Ohio State sports doctor Richard Strauss — and officials’ lack of response. The university said in its annual crime report in 2019 that Strauss committed at least 1,429 sexual assaults and 47 rapes during his 20-year tenure. Strauss was never charged and died by suicide in 2005. The docuseries can’t be welcome news for Jordan, who was the assistant coach of the wrestling team at Ohio State from 1987 to 1995. At least three athletes and a referee have alleged they discussed the abuse directly with Jordan, but that he took no action to stop it. Jordan has denied he was told of any abuse or knew of it. One of the victims in the Sports Illustrated story alleged Jordan knowingly ignored Strauss’ abuse. A one-time captain on Jordan’s team said in an interview with MSNBC’s Joy Reid last year that the scandal is only “going to get worse” for Jordan. 'The end of the road': NBC's Pete Williams says grand jury will see Trump's taxes 'almost immediately' A Manhattan grand jury is expected to see former President Donald Trump's financial information "almost immediately" following the Supreme Court's refusal to halt the process. In an action taken Monday, the Supreme Court said that it would not interfere with a case against Trump that is being pursued by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. NBC justice correspondent Pete Williams told host Stephanie Ruhle that the grand jury would be able to see Trump's financial records "almost immediately." "This is it," Williams said. "This is the end of the road for the [former] president's lawyers to appeal here. The accountants for the president have always said they will abide by whatever the courts say. And this has all be set to go -- sort of in the starting blocks." "Vance agreed to hold off on any demands for these documents until the Supreme Court has handled this case," he added. "You can bet that that is already to go. All they have to do is turn the key. Those demands will go to the accountants. The accountants are ready to turn it over. So I suspect that this will be a matter of days." Williams pointed out that the work of the grand jury "seems to be growing" because new forensic accountants were recently brought on to the case. "The topics they're looking at seems to growing as well," the NBC correspondent said. "We know that it's expanded beyond the statements -- remember the genesis of all this. It was Michael Cohen's testimony before the Senate that the president wasn't truthful in stating his assets, that sometimes he would overstate them when he was trying to get loans and sometimes he would understate them when he was trying to avoid taxes." "And then the hush money payments," Williams continued. "But it's gone beyond that. It's gone beyond those payments. It's gone beyond that treatment. It's looking at a much broader look at the Trump Organization." 'The end of the road': NBC's Pete Williams says grand jury will see Trump's taxes 'almost immediately' - Alternet.org

Florida to fly flags at half-mast for Rush Limbaugh on Ron DeSantis' order. Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered state entities to honor the late right-wing talk radio host when he is buried Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced on Friday at the Hilton Airport Palm Beach in West Palm Beach that he plans to lower flags at half-mast in honor of the now-deceased conservative radio titan Rush Limbaugh. According to ABC's WTXL Tallahassee, flags across Florida have been ordered to be lowered when Limbaugh's funeral, the date of which has yet to publicly announced, occurs. Limbaugh, who died of lung cancer at age 70, left behind a $50 million estate in Palm Beach Florida and taped his show just one mile away. "What we do when there's things of this magnitude," DeSantis said, lamenting Limbaugh's death, "once the date of internment for Rush is announced, we're going to be lowering the flags to half-staff." The pronouncement was met with applause from a mostly maskless audience.

The reality is that, because of very different conditions, life on other worlds is likely to be so different to us that we may not even recognize it as such. Intelligent life needs to have the ability to be able to construct artifacts and manipulate their environment to progress. That implies ability to move, communicate, use tools and so forth. Whether or not this would mean a bi-pedal form is unknown. That's what they want you to think....

In sociology, we were told that studies show that if as little as 15% of a group is radicalized, this usually results in widespread chaos and violence. America is there and has been for decades.

Looks to be an interesting signing. Good power rush and spin move, good lateral pursuit and doesn't let up until the QB is horizontal or the ball carrier is.

Trump's DC hotel had an elaborate 7-step procedure for serving his Diet Coke: report A new report from Washingtonian details all of the painstaking steps that employees of former President Donald Trump's hotel had to take just to correctly pour him a Diet Coke. A set of internal hotel documents obtained by the publication show that the hotel had a seven-step process for pouring Trump a Diet Coke that included four separate photo exhibits. "The beverage had to be opened in front of the germophobe commander in chief, 'never beforehand,'" Washingtonian writes, summarizing the instructions. "The server was to hold a longneck-bottle opener by the lower third of the handle in one hand and the Diet Coke, also by the lower third, in the other. Once poured, the drink had to be placed at the president's right-hand side."

Pennsylvania police officer charged in Capitol riots says he has 'no regrets' A Pennsylvania police officer has been hit with felony charges for his participation in the Capitol riots and now details about his Facebook posts are also coming to light. According to the HuffPost, Joseph Fischer, a patrolman for the North Cornwall Township Police Department, is facing a string of charges including "obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder, knowingly entering a restricted building without lawful authority, violent entry and conduct on Capitol grounds, and obstruction of justice/Congress." He was aware that he might lose his job and face consequences from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). However, Fischer suggested that did not matter to him. Under a social media account with the handle "SV Spindrift," Fischer posted footage of himself running toward a line of police officers at the Capitol screaming, "Charge!" He also noted that there were four rows of officers and he'd "made it to level two" which suggests he made it beyond two rows of the officers. This should probably go in another thread, but there is every indication that the gravy train is never gonna come back to Alberta again. The day of petro-power is over, and the day may be coming when Alberta will have to go to Ottawa hat in hand for help. Many do not know this, but in the 30's Alberta was bankrupt and had to ask for a financial bailout.

The Vaccines Are More Effective Than You Think, Even With Those Variants Looming Even against the deadly South African variant, the vaccines are having an impact, White House COVID adviser Andy Slavitt says. “I was under the impression coming in—as many, many Americans were—that there were big stockpiles of vaccines waiting to go out the door that were produced over the course of the last year. It's been much, much less the case than I think we'd been led to believe,” the White House senior adviser for COVID response tells Molly Jong-Fast and Jesse Cannon on the latest episode of The New Abnormal. The Vaccines Are More Effective Than You Think, Even With Those Variants Looming (thedailybeast.com) Pfizer Says Its Vaccine No Longer Needs to Be Stored in Ultra-Freezing Temperatures One big problem with the BioNTech/Pfizer coronavirus vaccine was that it had to be kept at ultra-low temperatures to stop it from spoiling—but its manufacturers say that’s no longer the case. According to the Financial Times, the companies have discovered that the shots can now be safely stored in regular medical freezers, rather than ultra-cold storage units that kept the vaccines at temperatures “colder than an Antarctic winter.” In a statement, BioNTech/Pfizer said the vaccine can be kept for up to two weeks in temperatures between minus 15C to minus 25C—before now, it had to be kept between minus 60C and minus 80C. Ugur Sahin, BioNTech’s chief executive, said the discovery will give vaccination centers “greater flexibility,” especially in harder-to-reach rural areas. The new data has been submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Josh Hawley dipped into campaign funds to help bankroll family trip to Universal Studios. On a lobbyist retreat to Orlando, the Missouri Republican billed nearly $200 in junk food to his Senate campaign Sen. Josh Hawley, R-MO, is facing new scrutiny for billing $197 in food expenses for his family during a "lobbyist retreat" in Orlando after his fellow Republican senator and purveyor of the election fraud myths that lead to the deadly Jan 6. attack on the U.S. Capitol Ted Cruz received widespread condemnation after fleeing Texas for Cancun during a winter storm crisis in his state. Federal Election Commission filings show that Hawley's campaign footed the bill in seven separate charges paid to Voodoo Doughnut, Seuss Popcorn, Lard Lad, Lagoon Popcorn, Hopping Pot, Bumblebee Taco, and Margaritaville during a personal vacation last March. The New York Post reports that the event was organized in conjunction with fellow Missouri Senator Roy Blunt's Rely on Your Belief PAC, which spent $4,680.65 on admission to the theme park. Because politicians are strictly prohibited from using campaign money for personal expenditures, Hawley's splurge sounded alarms amongst campaign finance experts. "It appears to not be a legal use of campaign funds," said Ann Ravel, the former F.E.C. chairwoman under Obama. Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia's Center for Politics, echoed her, arguing that Hawley's charges "warrant some scrutiny." The link between Trumpland, QAnon, evangelical culture, and child-sex predators Ben Gibson, a failed Republican congressional candidate who shared QAnon content on social media, was arrested in December on four counts of child pornography. A few months earlier, Joshua Jennings was arrested on first-degree murder charges for allegedly killing his girlfriend's 10-month-old daughter. Investigators found that Jennings had plastered the QAnon associated #savethechildren hashtag all over his Facebook wall, interspersed with rants about killing pedophiles.
