  1. I would think that there are principled prosecutors and judges that are itching to have Trump or his assets in their courts.
  2. Big banks pocketed $10 billion in fees from small business rescue program: report Funds quickly dried up as dozens of publicly-traded companies with cash reserves received more than $300 million APRIL 23, 2020 8:59PM (UTC) Banks that distributed government-backed small business relief loans made more than $10 billion in fees before the program ran out of money and left thousands of small firms without aid, according to an analysis by NPR. https://www.salon.com/2020/04/23/big-banks-pocketed-10-billion-in-fees-from-small-business-rescue-program-report/
  3. The biggest black cloud hanging over Trump's head is his incestuous relationship with Deutsche Bank. There have been several huge loans based on misrepresented value of his properties, which, if true, are fraud on a massive scale. His status as president gives him some degree of immunity, but that will evaporate as soon as he is out of the office. Once charges are filed, you can count on an avalanche of civil suits as other creditors scramble to try to secure their liens. That will be the end of Trump.
  4. On a slightly different note , yesterday we ordered Chinese from a nearby restaurant and it arrived in a surprisingly short period of time. I walked out to the delivery car and when I got close, the driver's face tightened up and he shouted," Isolate, isolate!". To calm him down, I told him that I had ordered just 15 minutes ago.
  5. Elizabeth Warren's Brother Dies Of Coronavirus: Donald Reed Herring, an Air Force veteran and the oldest brother of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), died in Oklahoma on Tuesday night after suffering complications from the novel coronavirus at age 86, the former presidential candidate confirmed. “I’m grateful to the nurses and other front-line staff who took care of my brother, but it is hard to know that there was no family to hold his hand or to say ‘I love you’ one more time. And now there’s no funeral for those of us who loved him to hold each other close,” Warren told the Boston Globe. “I will miss my brother.” Herring, who was a cancer survivor, attended the University of Oklahoma and subsequently joined the Air Force, serving for 20 years. He was awarded with several Army decorations and later retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1973. https://www.thedailybeast.com/elizabeth-warrens-oldest-brother-dies-of-coronavirus-in-oklahoma
  6. Not sure if "double jeopardy" applies to impeachment, but it probably does by convention. God knows, Trump has done enough illegal and other crap to warrant another trial, but if the GOP is in enough trouble at the polls, they might try to save themselves by presenting articles of impeachment themselves.
  7. As predicted, Faux News is going after Biden with smears Fox News report linking Biden to bin Laden drops hours after Trump comes up short in network’s poll The news was first published by The Washington Post in 2012. Fox News didn't explain why it resurfaced it in 2020 Hours after a Fox News poll showed Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden leading President Donald Trump, the network published a story smearing the former vice president as Osama bin Laden's choice for president. https://www.salon.com/2020/04/23/fox-news-report-linking-biden-to-bin-laden-drops-hours-after-trump-comes-up-short-in-networks-poll_partner/
  8. Sooooo....you're saying that he fits perfectly into Trump's cabinet and party?
  9. And in Scotland, a Rolling Stones tribute band, the Stoned Rollers, have released a single, "Hey McLeod, Get Offa My Ewe".
  10. Trump's Geniusity Strikes Again! The head of the Department of Health and Human Services tapped a 37-year-old former dog breeder with no public health experience to lead the government’s “day-to-day” response to the coronavirus to disastrous effect, Reuters reports. HHS Secretary Alex Azar chose Brian Harrison, who from 2012 to 2018 ran a company called Dallas Labradoodles that sold mixed dog breeds, to be his chief of staff in 2019 and later promoted him to coordinate the nation’s coronavirus task force. https://www.thedailybeast.com/alex-azar-hhs-secretary-tapped-former-dog-breeder-to-lead-early-government-coronavirus-task-force-report?ref=home
  11. This sickens me. About 30 years ago, my secretary told me that she had held a similar position at Nygard but left when it became apparent that Nygard was determined to screw anything and everything remotely female. It was different world then, alas. My late wife was a nurse who was sexually assaulted at HSC about that time but the perpetrator was pulled off her, but no charges were ever laid. Ugh.
  12. If you are horrified by all this crap, I regret to inform you that you ain't seen nuthin' yet. Trump's rabid base is about 100 million people. Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
  13. Welcome to Alberta's rigorous inspection program. You may recall something like this happened with tainted meat at Brooks a few years ago. And you don't want to hear about their (alleged) housing inspection program.
  14. The problem is that often results are interpretable and researchers, being human can succumb to confirmation bias wherein they are favourably disposed to interpret ambiguous data in such a way as to support their biases. And sometimes the results are so bizarre that they do not fit within a existing paradigm, like the wave/particle conundrum of light.
  15. Few people can pivot to the discussion of federal equalization payments in the middle of a pandemic like Alberta Premier Jason Kenney can. Last week, when announcing his province’s donation of hundreds of thousands of pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) to Ontario, Quebec, and B.C. in their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Kenney was asked if he expected anything in return. “I obviously hope that our fellow Canadians will recognize in this contribution, the generous role that Albertans have always played across the country,” Kenney said. “This is one practical expression of that in a time of need, but we Albertans contribute $20 billion more to the rest of Canada than we get back in benefits every year. That helps to fund their hospital systems, their health-care systems, their schools.” https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/entry/jason-kenney-coronavirus-alberta_ca_5e9f7e5bc5b69150246a2992?utm_hp_ref=ca-homepage
  16. Reports out of the US yesterday confirm that the Trump administration is looking to shield employers from criminal and civil liability if they force employees to work without protective equipment or rules and thus contract the Coronavirus. If employees refuse to work under these circumstances, they would be denied UI benefits. Ain't America great?
  17. Trump Favorite Is Under Investigation—and Getting Big Bucks to Build the Wall Last Wednesday, while the country strained under a nationwide lockdown, Lt. General Semonite’s corps found time to award another border-wall contract to a company Trump personally championed—even as it’s under investigation by the Defense Department inspector general. Specifically, Fisher on Apr. 15 got $7,633,085 to build a mere “800 linear feet” of bollard barrier—that slatted design Trump favors—for the wall in Yuma, Ariz. https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-favorite-is-under-investigationand-getting-big-bucks-to-build-the-wall?ref=home
  18. As of 20:00h CDT, CBC is reporting 22 confirmed dead with a probability of more to come.
  19. Talk about having bad Luck.
  20. As much as I believe in science, it is not without stain. There are numerous instances where results have been either deliberately misrepresented to support a predetermined result, or misinterpreted. Corporations are not above sponsoring misleading "research". The tobacco industry is one example and the pharmaceutical industry has also been guilty, as the current furor about Trump's "cure" proves.
  21. OOH OOOH WHY NOT US, TOO?!?!?
  22. What do you have against drunks?
  23. STATES ARE HAVING TO SMUGGLE COVID SUPPLIES TO KEEP THEM AWAY FROM FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SEIZURE APRIL 21, 2020 6:54PM (UTC) States have been forced to resort to smuggling shipments of personal protective equipment (PPE) after federal officials seized supplies ordered by hospitals without informing officials. Governors have long complained that the Trump administration has left them to bid against each other on the open market for critical supplies for health workers. However, numerous officials recently claimed that the federal government had seized supplies ordered by the states. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, told CNN that the state bought 500 ventilators before they were "swept up" by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, a Republican, said the Trump administration "confiscated" its order of 3 million masks. https://www.salon.com/2020/04/21/states-smuggle-covid-19-medical-supplies-to-avoid-federal-seizures-as-house-probes-jared-kushner/
  24. The furor among the Tumpsters in the US has caused Trump to give credence to yet another insane theory. These are the same people who promoted the Pizzagate idiocy and Trump has to get in front of the parade of lemmings because he is their leader. China has no incentive to create or release such a plague because it has destroyed their economy at least as badly as it has the rest of the world's. Why would the Chinese slay the golden goose that has made them wealthy and powerful?
