The QBs you cited were performing reasonably well before their numbers slid and the trade came. One five game winning streak after a lackluster career as a backup. does not put Willy in the same league.

He didn't make it. (from CBC news 4 hours ago) A former Winnipeg Blue Bomber has been shot to death, allegedly by his own son. Antonio Armstrong and his wife, Dawn, were shot early Friday morning, American media has reported. The couple's 16-year-old son has been charged with murder. The Blue Bombers sent their condolences to the former player's family on Friday night. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of alumni Antonio Armstrong, who passed away today," the Blue Bombers said in a Tweet.

I think it is safe to say that at this point, Willy is not starting QB material. He might get his mojo back, but history says that it is likely he is done as a starter, at least here . Maybe a ex-QB coach like Austin or Hufnagel might help him, but his glory days here are over.

Cue the crashing indifference. He's not going to stick there, either. -
At 350 lb, all Bond has to do is stand there.

Riders Vs. Als "Bottom of the Barrel Edition"

From that putrid display from the Riders, if the Bombers cannot finish ahead of them, there has to be something terribly, terribly wrong. -
And Nerf bats. Don't forget the Nerf bats

And he's big and athletic enough to not hurt himself more than his target. I hope that he doesn't just concentrate on laying down the Big Hit and sacrifice pass coverage. From his bio, he seems smart enough to start calling the pass coverage before too long. In addition to having the right passport, he is young enough to still get better and hang around for a while.

A couple of weeks ago, I heard Leggett being interviewed on the radio and he spoke of how happy he was to have his family here and away from all that hatred and insanity in the states. We here in Canada have our share of nuts but at least they're not armed.

That would explain Kuale, Hurl, etc and how long it took to finally start Nichols. Nichols didn't set the league on fire last game but he looked better than Willy has in quite some time, dating back to last year.

The Beastly Lions looked like they had the game in the bag and the Stamps looked like also-rans until Jennings gave the game away. Still, I wouldn't give up on him if was Wally- he made a lot of very nice touch passes. -
Damn. Adams plays the best game of his career here and then gets racked.

Odds and Sods - Game 6 - Bombers at Edmonton
Tracker replied to do or die's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I didn't know until the game last night that Loffler is 6'4" and 220 when he clobbered Bowman. -
My understanding is that the LaPolice offense specializes in short-medium (5-15 yards) passes and will use the long bomb only on occasion. I don't know if this is because Willy's passes were suspect or just as a matter of philosophy stressing high-percentage completions.

The Joke that is the Winnipeg Blue Bomber franchise

Okay, this side of the Stone Age. My grandkidlets already think that I can remember dinosaurs. -
Does a blow out against the Tiger-Cats cost MOS his job?

Is it necessary to point out once again that players loved Reinbold, Kelly, etc etc? -

Nichols could be the QB we need to at least give us competitiveness, but we are going to need more data. We've had too many pivots who looked good for a game and then sank into obscurity. I suspect that some of the throngs of QBs who have passed through here were not as bad as they seemed but none went on to stellar careers elsewhere with the only possible exception being Kevin Glenn. -

I stand by my assessment. The Bombers started Bond as a new O-lineman and we also had a new D-back, receiver and safety in the lineup. So that's four and I still see the need for a better MLB. Nichols may or may not be the QB we need (that's five) and we are not going to know that for a couple more games. Nichols did not look like an all-star, but he managed the game well and ought to get better with reps. Barring an injury to Nichols, he will probably start again next week and then have the bye week to fine-tune his game. Losing two/three starting receivers has to be a setback to the cohesion between QB and receiver, but we'd best enjoy the afterglow. Reality arrives next week and its gonna be a tougher game. -
Does a blow out against the Eskimos cost MOS his job?
Tracker replied to White Out's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Maybe bring him in as an enhanced "director of player personnel" who would be well-paid but mostly behind the scenes. I would prefer Tom Higgins, though. -
You are not alone in your faint hope. We something to hang onto even if its an anomaly that is not repeated. Edmonton is ripe for picking but our Achilles heel is our secondary and Reilly is the best long-bomb quarterback in the league.

I recall that the second player waiting for permission to play in the CFL was even more violent with his G/F than Hardy. Shivers had a habit of bringing in talented headcases and it looks like this regime is following suit. -

As a comparison, I believe that the Riders have on their roster one player who was involved in violent incident with his partner and a second one in town who has the same record. It seems that the degree of forgiveness in criminal incidents is in direct proportion to their talents. -
And do you know what Jesus' favourite gun is? .....................A nail gun.

With all the problems of our O-line, Nichols cannot be a sitting duck, and Harris ought to be a big part of the answer- swing passes, shovel passes, flares and so forth to keep the D-linemen, linebackers and d-backs from pinning their ears back and coming after Nichols all night. Nichols might even have to take off a couple of times early on.
