If Tom Brady can be sat down (figuratively speaking), then there is no sane reason for Willy to keep being thrown out when it is obvious to the world that it just isn't happening for him. But we're talking about O'Shea here who has been remarkably resistant to learning from experiences.

Which is like saying that you almost made it across the river. -
The problem with your suggestion is that it is anathema to O'Shea to do that sort of thing. There is a Sioux proverb that if your horse is dead it is time to dismount
-
The current Stanley Cup champions gassed their coach mid season and that seems to have worked out well for the Penguins.
-
Well, the oven might start him on a successful career as a baker.

If you as an an OC have a quarterback who is slow of mind and foot, you have to have a simplistic playbook.
-
Hmmmm....slow foot speed, inability to adapt....put them together and you get...Drew Willy.
-
FWIW, the consensus on the morning 1290 show is that Willy no longer has what it takes to be a successful quarterback in the CFL.
-
I'm afraid that is what it will come down to. The only question is how big a crater will be left behind.
-
a: Burris is no spring chicken and b: does he want to come here and become roadkill?
-
Agreed that Willy is not worth what he costs, but Burris is questionable- how tread does he have on his tires and does he want to come here under this regime?
-
That is called "dynamic intelligence"- the ability to adapt rapidly to a fluid situation.
-
It may well be that Willy does not have the mental toughness needed to take a hit to make the play, or take repeated hits, period. I've seen guys in martial arts who were great in practice but wilted in real physical confrontation.
-
You have to start somewhere, and I propose that acknowledging Willy as not the quarterback the team needs is a beginning. Moreover, O'Shea got out-coached again by a rookie as the Esks pulled steadily away after the first quarter. I am also not pleased at the scouting staff's results. After all this time we still do not have a breakaway receiver, and it irks me that Collins might have been that guy.

Hat trick for LaPolice?
-
I suspect that Willy will get every start until at least the season is lost, which ought to be by the end of August, at which point we will be 3 and 6 or such. Perhaps O'Shea's successor can coach Willy up better.
-
I do not think there is any way that O'Shea is going to bench Willy, and the two will go down together like Ahab and his whale. O'Shea's devotion to his players will be his undoing but we fans will have to suffer through it.

Edmonton gets to turn over their whole freaking coaching staff and hire a rookie head coach and still pulls away from the "stable" Bombers. Bombers coaching staff is "stable" but a stable is also full of manure. At least it wasn't another blowout but it is painfully obvious that Willy can't get it done when it counts. -
If we're still close or ahead at half-time, we have a chance in what ought to be a tough game. If the team reverts to old habits and the Esks have a 15 point lead at the halfway mark, we're boned.

Blitzing anyone is going to be a real gamble. Reilly doesn't run like he used to, but he still can if the rushing linebacker gets pinned inside, and Reilly can ad lib with the best. Pressure on him by our front four is critical. If he gets time to plant his feet and Bowman has time to get deep into the secondary, its going to be a looong night.

Week 4 Games - Wed (Ott @ TO) , Fri (Ham @ Mtl) & Sat (BC @ SK)

Not to excuse Argos fans or lack thereof, but +30 degree weather with humidity near 100% is nearly dangerous. Plus there was a big-name rock concert, and the streets looked like a maze. On 1290 Radio this morning, Dunigan said that it took him 20 minutes to get out the parking lot and he needed a friendly cop even then. -
The Bombers win in Hamilton can be dismissed as a "yes-but" victory, but Edmonton should be a much better test of the team. Reilly and his receiving corps are as good as any in the league- certainly in the top three at least. Their running game is iffy, and the whole team is nowhere as good as last year. Maas looks to be a good coach even though a rookie, and the Esks seem to be able to find talent at will, so all in all, this will not be a blowout for the Bombers over the Esks. A Bomber win will give hope to the faithful but a lopsided loss will destroy any momentum from last week and spike the sales of anti-depressants in Winnipeg, and MLCC sales as well.

DesJardins had to work within the same salary cap as everyone else, had a rookie head coach and a piecemeal team thrown together, so he did a helluva job. -
Kent Austin does not take losing lightly and he is a better coach than Popp, so gotta pick Hamilton. Masoli cannot be as bad as he has looked in the last couple of games- can he?
