Lets take a look at Higgins' career and record as a head coach: Higgins joined the Stampeders coaching staff, serving in many different capacities until becoming a head coach in 2001. Higgins became head coach of the CFL's Edmonton Eskimos later that year, leading the team to the playoffs in each of his four seasons. In 2002 and 2003, he won division titles, and he won a single Grey Cup as a head coach, with the Eskimos in 2003. In 2005 he returned to the Calgary Stampeders as head coach. He held this position for three years, making the playoffs in each, but with the team's record also declining each season. He was fired after a first round loss during the 2007 playoffs. And he was a very good coach in the CIS as well. Would folks here rather have this record or the Lapolice/Burke/O'Shea results? This record would have had fans here positively giddy.

Next question ... since it seems to be a theme around here
Tracker replied to IC Khari's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
That isn't such a stretch. They have a decent if not outstanding team around the best (standing) quarterback in the East at the moment, and if Henry gets hot, a Grey Cup appearance and just maybe a win is not inconceivable. -
Normally, the thought of Tillman as GM would revulse me, but I have had my moments this year when it didn't seem as insane. Ugh.

In the 60's and 70's the defensive linemen were the size of many of the linebackers now, and did not have the strength they do now or stamina to either continue their rushes more than a few seconds or pursue downfield. Quarterbacks haven't changed all that much.

Could our coaching staff be crazy enough to.....

Davis should start no? Don't bet the farm. -
Absolutely. Imagine being owned by Al Davis. Or Peter Pocklington, or Nelson Skalbania or Bruce McNall or Larry Ryckman or .......

Tillman by far would be the best choice, he's been actively recruiting for the Ti-Cats and still doing a great job but his reputation is probably too much for the fans to stomach right now. Tillman is poison. Groping teenage girls... If Tillman agreed to plastic surgery, hair-dye and a name change.....

This is not just the commissioner's call- there has to be consensus among the GMs and head coaches, but I definitely agree about protecting the QBs more. The Bomber-Rider games in September were downright painful to watch.

I am a regular Free Press reader, but apart from their gameday inserts, the day-to-day coverage is pathetic, particularly now that Lawless is gone. I suspect this is due in equal parts to growing fan apathy, the team`s dismal efforts and the lack of resources that the paper is willing to devote. The Jet/NHL coverage seems to be the main thing these days.

Did I miss some official announcement? Only thing I heard was Doug Brown and Lawless said he was coming back. The Bombers are leaking out the info to the media. Too embarrassed to make it official. And, if true, they ought to be.

I doubt if there is any coach in any sport who has not made calls that have been questionable, but the bottom line is winning. In Montreal, apparently Higgins was sitting out veterans (Bowman in particular) who were pets of Popp in preparation for transitioning the team to younger players. The veterans started bitching and Popp fired Higgins. Considering what he had to work with in Montreal, I think Higgins did pretty well last year.
-
Taman and Tillman have a lot of baggage, but Higgins might be a better choice for head coach. Higgins' experience as a possible GM is iffy.

I wouldn't rule out the players putting out their best effort of the year against an admittedly disinterested Argo team. Everyone is now auditioning for next year's jobs and I would bet half of this crew isn't going to be here season. At least, I sure hope so.

When you say "Weakerthans", are you referring to the 2014 and 2015 Bombers?
-
Our season was done by Labour Day, even though some chose to live in denial. We've had brief moments of competence, but the team has stunk for two seasons. Gonna take a lot of Febreeze to clear out this stench. To those who have been calling for "continuity", continuity means more of what we've had for two years. Enough already.

O'Shea will have to watch the tape before commenting.

Ray still has a great touch on his tosses.

I expect BC to win. Jennings seems to have given them new hope,

Westerman Fined by CFL for 4th Time This Season
Tracker replied to TrueBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Can't fault Walters for picking Nichols up-he was the only option there was and with a decent OC and O-line, heck- he might even be average. Where Walters, O'Shea, Bellefeuille, and especially McManus fell down was when they collectively looked at the backups to Willy way back in training camp , wrinkled their brows ad thought, " they're good enough". Someone's feet ought to held to the fire for that group brain cramp and the inability to find better backups in the US of A. -

The offense ought to chip in for Westerman's fine because he's one of the prime reasons they get onto the field. -
Fed Up Fan: $5 dollars to get rid of a ticket?

New stadium under construction & I have this feeling they'll rebuild their team faster than us. Go wash your keyboard out with disinfectant soap Reality is like a slap in the face sometimes. And it won;t go away. -

MOS: list strengths & weaknesses, good & bad
Tracker replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The problem with this list is we realistically don't know the answer to a lot of them.... sure we can guess... but it likely won't be accurate... Even though I don't know for sure, I have formed an opinion that is likely to be very accurate. I think he's been exposed as a terrible head coach but there's no need to embarrass the poor guy any further. He's had a very rough year. I am sure he has learned a lot these past two seasons. He's got one year left. Let's see if he can put it all together next year. What do you think? Can he? All the available evidence says "no." Even with a new OC? Even with some new players? Even with 2 years under his belt? Those all exist as possibilities and may or may not come to pass. It is even possible, although horrifying to consider, that Bellefeuille could be here next year, so it could actually get worse. All we have to go on is the track record, and that does not inspire confidence. Consider how bad the DC was last year and how long it took to replace him, and the same situation this year with the STC and OC. -

It has to be frustrating for Westerman, being expected to provide 90% of the pass rush all by himself, so if he's cranky, it would be understandable.
