  1. I would bet that if we hadn't scooped Nichols when we did (and for essentially nothing in return), he would be in either BC, Montreal or (shudder) Regina by now, and I am equally sure they would have paid more than we did. Nichols may not make us forget Willy, but this can be chalked up as "win" for Walters.
  2. With Hurl seemingly getting better every game (and due in no small part to a better D-line), the pressure to sign Henoc is not as great as before. Its starting to look like we could live without him if we had to- and there is a real possibility we will lose out on him.
  3. I expect a 6 and 12 season if Willy does not return but Nichols play well.
  4. Would love to see Muamba back here but not at any price. There always to seems to be one or two CFL GM's who see this sort of thing as a pecker contest and get carried away.
  5. Nichols brought a poise and confidence we haven't seen in a year, except for a couple of drives by Willy earlier this year. I do not see Nichols supplanting Willy, but its nice to see that behind what is still a dreadful O-line. Hurl and Leggett were good, and Bass just keeps getting better and better, the D-backs were solid for the most part, we had good (not great) pressure on Smith, but Chevon Walker was nowhere close to good. And our receivers stood out for a change- either Bellefeuille has had a deathbed repentance or Bohm and Marve are as dumb as a bag of hammers.
  6. The difference in the game was that Nichols (and his receivers) got better as the game went on, and Smith & Co. did not. Startling that we pulled the game out in the seconf half. Not used to that. Not gonna save Bellefeuille, though.
  7. Why's that? Cause he sucks? Surely to God, Chevon Walker can't be the best we can find.
  8. Nichols was far and away the best QB we have put on the field since Willy went down, Too soon to anoint him, so lets see how he fares against the Larks, but we now have at least a flicker of hope.
  9. The longer it takes, the better the chances Henoch will sign in Ontario- probably Toronto. Lets not cripple the team financially for one player when there are so many holes in our lineup.
  10. In orbit! Sheesh! Next you'll be telling me the earth is round. Round? Is that what that nit wit explorer is saying? Something about a shadow on the moon. Pfft! Everyone knows it's a Nazi base. No, no, no. That base is in Antarctica and it is where JFK, Elvis and Michael Jackson are kept.
  11. Walters has put the recruiting processes on a much better footing and has made several key acquisitions which ought to serve this club well in time to come. Admittedly, the Import talent needs some better bodies, but filling the pipeline will likely take another year. McManus and Goveia (sp?) need to up their game. I am willing to give Walters another year, but have given up on O'Shea.
  12. Lawless called for a "dispassionate" assessment of Miller/Walters' performance. How can you get any more dispassionate than looking at the Bombers' win/loss record during their rule and then at the number of times the team has been blown out and lost at home? Number do not always tell the story, but here they do.
  13. Maybe the CFL has to adopt the NFL rule about the QB having a two-count after he releases the ball. I don't like the NFL (boring and hyper-commercial) but they do have the occasional good idea.
  14. Close loss? Maybe. But I have the same bad feeling I had when I predicted the loss last week. This team is spiraling out of control. It might come down to whether the players still think they have a chance to get into the playoffs or even win the Banjo Bowl, for that matter. The difference between winning and losing, especially against the Riders, often depends on confidence, and the Bombers have to be pretty fragile right now after all those lopsided losses and then getting blown out by an 0-9 team.
  15. That's not entirely true. I do know how to count. And here I thought "countless" referred to a lack of low-level nobility.
  16. Wow! Winnipeggers and Bomber fans in particular are an optimistic lot. On the flip side, should the Big Blue stink the joint out, there are going to be a lot of boos and epithets raining down on them. I see this game as the current edition of the Bombers' last chance to redeem themselves against a long-term rival. If the Bombers win, many will say that its just the pathetic Riders, so no big deal, but if the Bombers lose.... No pressure though.
  17. Bruised ego, no doubt. They ought to call it the "paid spectator list".
  18. You can't force Canadian players into spots they are not good at. You need to build your team and import players around your best core of NIs, wherever they fit. Its a heluva juggling act all season
  19. You mean Jeb? Because he actually is. You failed this one. Jeb is running for the Republican nomination, not President...yet. To the consternation of all sane people, the leading Republican candidate is..........Donald Trump.
  20. One of the most damning things about our offence this year and last was how long it takes for a play to develop. The opposition has time to run tot he sidelines for a drink and still return to the field to stop the play. It was most noticable during the Calgary game.
  21. I call BS on this. Doug Brown was a consumate pro always ready to play. You forget he was in the NFL before being an all star here? Check your facts before you make a silly statement. And there were credible reports that during the Jim Daley era, the defence was so screwed up that Brown was actually calling the defensive sets during games.
  22. Is there any point in rostering Kohlert or JFG? There is only one, maybe two passes thrown to them during the game and those spots could be used to speed up water delivery to the team during breaks.
  23. If you outlaw lutefisk, only outlaws will have lutefisk. (Norwegian humour).
  24. So the 0-9 Riders playing a raw rookie equals great depth? That's all bull ****, its poor coaching and poor qb play and nothing else. Agreed Brandon - Montreal lost their top two QB's, and have a better record, and they still fired their HC. Edmonton lost their #1 and traded their #2 to us because #3 was so good. Toronto started the year with their #1 on the shelf and he still is. Only Sk has done worse and it's better that 50/50 they'll only be one game behind us come Sunday. I said it when Willy was first hurt - we'll see what this team is made of when it faces adversity. All teams do. Great teams, even good teams, will find a way to overcome adversity. The Winnipeg Blue Bumblers fold like cheap tent when faced with adversity, and have done so for the past decade. Not sure where to blame. Would be easy to blame just one person but it's a team effort to win and a team effort to fail. IMO - the Banjo Bowl is a must win for the Bombers. It really is, they lose, the season is toast. Written off. And yes, I expect a lot of changes to happen if they do lose - never mind the axe falling, it should make the Texas Chainsaw Massacre look like a Disney movie when all is said and done. Agreed. If we lose the Banjo Bowl, we will be officially in freefall and out of the playoffs with all coaching jobs circling the drain.
  25. And there will not be. The bigger the scale of a construction project, the greater the chance of unintentional screwups. The new cop shop is behind schedule and over budget, as is the Transcona Plessis underpass, but the floodway expansion was not.
