  1. I continue to be impressed by Walters. It seems every move is part of a larger plan and trading an aging, injury-prone player (even though he played with heart) for a younger player plus bonuses is a very smart move.
  2. Rod Black is likely parked outside Giguere's home with binoculars as usual.
  3. If Walters can sign Oramasionwu and Wojt, I would consider that a coup, and it ought to be doable.
  4. Well, we know which hard school he went to,,,,,,
  5. Ackie looks very interesting, At 6'1" and 210 he is still fast enough to play DB with room to put on a few more pounds. His tackling looks to need a bit of work, but he is not afraid to hit. He ought to make a helluva free safety or even an outside linebacker with some seasoning.
  6. Except our scouts didn't find any last year and we used Romby Bryant and Aaron Kelly in the position last year. Receivers should be easy to find but we haven't seen the ability from this scouting staff to find them yet. Walters has to be lighting a fire under our scouts this year- they have not covered themselves with glory this past year and I expected better from McManus and company. If Kelly can stay healthy, Denmark has another year like the one just past in spite of the quarterback problems, and Kohlert gets a bit better, we should be able to find or draft a good Canuck for the last spot. Problem solved.
  7. I really don't see the need to chase import receivers- they are relatively easy for scouts to find and Denmark and whats-his-name (if he can stay off the D/L) are pretty good and we have at least one CFL-quality receiver now. As far as O-linemen are concerned, it all comes down to Neufeld, and Walters has to know by now whether he's healed enough to be a fixture on the line or not. Or if he will simply be good enough to be a starter.
  8. What happened to MLBs being labelled MIKE?... unless he's referring to a Joe Mack-style LB? I've heard various acronyms for an MLB, but Walters referred to it as a Mack linebacker. If he was a true Mack linebacker, he would spend all his time in the US and we would never see him.
  9. This is win-win. If he makes it in the NFL, good PR for us, if not, and we've treated him well, he will come back and feel more at home. In any case, good on him.
  10. Making judgements on the basis of grainy film highlights is always tricky but he looks damned quick for a 240 lb man, he doesn't seem to get caught up in the wash too much and doesn't showboat after a tackle. A 240 lb outside linebacker is appealing, though and if he can play the position in the CFL with authority, he basically cuts the field for runners in half.
  11. And we all know how successful the flagship franchise, the Maple Leafs have been under his watch.
  12. I kind of think who the Bomber DC was crossed the minds of a whole **** load of people every time Walters and Cornish ripped off 20-30 yards against us last year. In the future we need to refer to our departed defensive coordinator as "he who shall not be named" in order to avoid re-traumatizing the fans here.
  13. For those of us who thought we had heard the last of the stadium kerfuffle, there is an interesting article in today's Freep and I am not sure if it adds anything new but here goes. As you may have been aware, the general contractor and the steel supplier-installer have had a dust-up going for awhile with the current blame being put on the general contractor although the appeal is being appealed once more. The steel contractor blames the general contractor for putting in the concrete foundations too late and thus causing a year's delay. One of the two are responsible for a year's delay and this seems to explain the occupancy being put off again and again and if everything had gone according to schedule, maybe the original target date may not have been all that unrealistic. FWIW.
  14. Rids is in Mobile maybe somehow he can give us some info. If Rids decides to move there, would he have to get a Mobile home?
  15. We have had a fair numberof good (maybe even great) import receivers come through here over the past few years, but damned few dominant o-linemen,of either the import or domestic variety, so I would vote we shore up the o-line first. We saw too many instances the past season where the outcome of the game was determined by a leaky o-line.
  16. Chris Matthews? yes, that's the guy I meant Chris Matthews? yes, that's the guy I meant He's on Seattle's PR, I think. Guess he's on Special Teams. Even so, he's probably earning more than our whole starting offence.
  17. Sam Miller is 5'9" 182lbs. 5'10" 190. Lots of SAM linebackers have played at a similar size. Kent, Malveaux, both guys in that ball park. Nice to see some size being added. Kelly Malvaux was talented but very short- he had to roll his socks down to poop. You can teach technique but you can't teach height.
  18. Benton looks like he has the right stuff- speed, a good spidey-sense and good reactions to developing plays. He looks to have enough mass to survive in the middle but it comes down to whether he can adapt to the CFL. I wonder what his GPA was.
  19. Many of our Canuck players are still growing into their roles- like Bucknor, who played well and can only get better. We really missed the boat with Pencer who ought to have been a top-ranked O-lineman but bombed out even after being given all kinds of chances, At this point, I would say we are average, and I would bet that at this time next year we will be in the top two or three.
  20. Was DesJardins trained by the Gleiberguys?
  21. ESPN writers have been known to induge in mood-altering substances, and the quote may be the result of one such event.
  22. Words and phrases that should make you nervous: However - always a qualifying word and apropos in this case…because it is defensive. I'm sure he will back off - no, you're not sure. Hall's defence clearly wasn't working - Clearly, it wasn't the defence that was the problem. he had enough balls to step in and take control - we all know how this particular phrase can lead to more trouble, not less. The riders haven't slipped any where as much as many of you would like to believe - the more that leaks out about the Riders, their signings, their non-signings, and whats lays ahead for this team, the better I like the chance of the Bombers finishing ahead of them. So you believe O'Shea wears no stink for Etch's defence? MOS was a linebacker himself, how is it that he had no input when it was your biggest glaring weakness? What moves have the Riders made that lead you to believe the Bombers will finish ahead of them? I understand you want to believe in your team, we all do that, but there is nothing more than speculation on your end. There are no facts to suggest it will happen. Agreed that O'Shea had to be aware that Etch's weird defensive strategy was flawed, but he was a rookie head coach still learning, and micro-managing the coached under him would have caused all sort of problems, maybe worse than we already had. Etch had to stand or fall on his own performance rather than being spoon-fed. Control freaks in management can do a lot in a short period of time, provided their underlings follow slavishly, but they do crash and burn to the delight of most, as it takes a tremendous amount of energy to function in that mode. It is not sustainable.
  23. Confirmed in part by Chamblin yesterday. He stated he will be doing the playcalling for the defence. I hope this continues the downwards trend of the riders. I don't see how you can blame all the losses on the Defence considering the offence was horrible after durant went down. on his mom. Not classy.
  24. According the a Bomber insider, the reason that Hall has not been announced as the DC was that all talks had to take place in The Cone Of Silence, which has delayed things.
