Given how much emphasis O'Shea places on being game-ready, I suspect he would have taken a very dim view of a player showing up on game day after being out all night drinking a Red Bull and munching on a Mars Bar with a cigarette dangling out of his mouth. On the other hand, if he was able to get Roberts to buy in, it probably would have extended Roberts' career and made him even more of a legend.

Sounds like a fringe player, maybe best suited to OLB but too bad he's a Scientologist. The part about taking dumb penalties is a concern- we've got one too many of those already.
-
He's afraid to practice against our OL...yep that'd do it... I've noticed that other teams' defensive linemen are so fearful of our O-linemen that they get past them as quickly as possible- very quickly, in fact.
-
I really like what Watson brings to the team but he really should take up a sport he is more suited to, like whiffle-ball or tiddly-winks.

Agreed. A few years ago (actually a lot of years) I happened to be sitting beside Earl Lunsford on a flight from Calgary to Winnipeg and when he wasn't schmoozing with the flight crew, we had a chance to talk. He said that from the hand-off to the first three yards past the line of scrimmage was all the O-line's responsibility, and after that it was the receivers blocking and the running back's ability. If you accept that as gospel, its not hard to see who should be hanged in the off season.

The only way the Bombers are going to get a crossover is to buy an SUV at an auto dealer.

Welcome aboard. We are in a bit of a tailspin right now and some of us are having flashbacks to last season. However, we will have seven months to detox.
-
But...but..but...the running game is just fine. Just matter of execution we are told. Seriously, though- I have not been a fan of Grigsby for a couple of months now but he probably never got much of a chance behind that atrocious O-line to show his stuff so I don't know if Cotton or McGuffie are going to do any better.

Lapo's offence was the same sort of meat grinder on qb's that MB is running, both work better with a qb who is actually a threat to run. In the CFL any quarterback who has the ability to take off or scramble when the moment is right instantly makes his team much better. There are not that many Kent Austins who can make it as a pure pocket passer.
-
No. It's just.....you.
-
Any significant improvement this year means less of a scramble in the off-season, and it shouldn't be all that hard to improve our import O-linemen.

I still find it strange that Sunseri fell apart so quickly and thoroughly after looking pretty decent in admittedly limited playing time over the past year. Stranger still that Sask actually thought Sunseri was better than Willy. Neither Taman nor the coaches are stupid yet there they are.
-
No chance LaPolice would want to come back to the team that fired him after expecting him to work miracles with a very poor roster.
-
The team was doing just fine until reality intruded.
-
Its going to come down to pure grit. BC is in the driver's seat but they still have to clinch it and a win over the Bombers would do that. The Bombers have a chance to be spoilers if nothing else, but we are going to see if they have given up on the year or not.
-
Watson ought to take a page from Oakland Raiders' John Matuszak who would have a hospital bed reserved in advance only in Matuszak's case it was for when he went out carousing.
-
Ford might be disqualified for using PEDs.
-
Assuming that we still have sports reporters with strong enough stomachs to continue to attend Bomber practices, we ought to be getting some glowing reports on some of these cannon fodder. So either the newbies are lackluster or no one is keeping an eye on them.

As near as I can tell, none of these have wowed anyone.

If you're just trying to measure progress then all you can do is look at where they are starting from and gauge whether or not they are headed in the right direction. We should be comparing our team against the other teams in the league this year, not against last years historically horrible team. If we'd gone 1-5 in the first third and 5-1 in the second third, then I'd say we are heading in the right direction and I'd be pretty pumped about our chances of making the playoffs this year. That's not what's happened. We pulled out some late comebacks in the 1st third of the season and we've been heading in the wrong direction since then, culminating in a bad loss to the former worst team in the league. That's way more important than how we look compared to last years losers. Quite frankly, this team isn't much better than last years team. Willy's the biggest difference between 3 and 6 wins and neither record is good enough. No, neither record is good enough. But to say the team isn't better than last year's garbage is ridiculous. Seriously, thats borderline trolling. The team at this point in the season is not much better than the team was last year at the same point, but overall it is better than last year. The biggest difference is that there is reason to hope that the future is brighter with a decent quarterback, better coaching (arguably) and a better GM in Walters than Sleepy Joe.

I agree with the BWAAAA HAAAA HAAAA sentiment. To your panic stations, rider fans!

Meh. Who cares about apathy?

Naheed Nenshi could rush for 150 yards against the Bombers, so losing Cornish is no big deal for the Stamps.

I'm not sure if all the problems with the team can be resolved enough between now and next June- there's a lot of them. As has been said ad nauseum, we need to replace all of our import O-linemen with either very good one or decent Canucks. We need a middle linebacker who strikes respect if not fear in opposing running backs and slot backs. We need one of not two import receivers as well as a healthy Nick Moore- Kelly may be one of the receivers we need, but he's going to have to prove it over the next four games or he should be gone. We need either a dominant defensive end and/or tackle, be they homegrown or imported. Despite his flashes of performance, Grigsby sure as spit does not look like the back we need. Etch and whomever is responsible for special teams has to be called in on the carpet and our much-heralded o-line coach has not covered himself in glory either. Bellefeuille cannot be assessed until he has something other than chicken feathers to cook with.

Mathematically, it is still possible for the Bombers to make the playoffs, but only the fans most heavily dabbling in recreational mood-altering substances still believe this is likely to happen. Like last year, we've been in next year country since Labour Day, but some of us are still clinging to our fantasies.
