This offence does have more in the tank to give, I agree there. Bailey and Wolitarsky need to be involved early IMO.

Offensively we look the same as last week, but we didn’t really light it up against Hamilton. Receivers not named Lawler and Demski need to step up. Defensively, without the pressure up front our back end was susceptible to getting picked apart (see opening drive). Now we have lost Richardson, Willie might not play, and Jeffcoat is beat up. That’s 3 of our starting 4 on the d-line, hardly “mostly intact”. Add to that the loss of Josh Johnson on the back end, no faith shown in our FG game, and our return specialist gone, and 2/3 of the 3 parts of our team have been noticeably weakened. I bet Bombers this week, and if we play a LaPo style run heavy eat up the clock limit turnovers type of offence and keep MBT from field time to rack up yards, and we deploy our linebackers more in the pass rush, we win. But if Willie does sit I fear I would regret my bet. Hope I am wrong. As always cheering with my heart, but hedging my bets with my head.

Astoundingly, in the Stampeders’ 77 year history, they have never opened the season 0-2 with both losses at home, until this year.

I didn’t even know this game was on tonight. Caught the last 4 minutes and saw: Calgary waste a minute of clock just to move a field goal up 6 yards with a 9 point deficit BC force Calgary to burn their timeout and with a 2nd and 3 within field goal range, then call a pass play instead of running the ball to keep the clock moving where a first down could have run out the clock a Calgary returner decide to bring a missed field goal out to the one foot line instead of conceding a point on a one score game The refs miss a push-off on an INT that should have been interference BC gamble on 3rd and 7 instead of trying another field goal (not too surprising given their kicker) or punting down to the Stampeder 5 yard line or so BLM throw 3 swing passes when they needed to drive the field quickly BC defenders batting the Hail Mary up in the air instead of to the ground If the rest of the game was as poorly executed as the last 4 minutes, I’m thankful I forgot it was on. Judging by the score, I am guessing it was.

I think most trolls start out the same way. They take a simple contrarian viewpoint that is objectively arguable, but in an effort to bolster their credibility they push the argument to outrageous extremes and provide a bloated “resume” of sorts to make them sound more qualified in their position. So “the voice is the big thing for broadcasters” turns into “I have connections at HNIC” and “I know most major broadcasters in the US and am privy to their inside reputation rankings, so I have professional backing for my unassailable point of view” In the same vein, “20 years in virology lab” and “worked in New York on COVID in secret” are self-aggrandizing claims meant to portray a sense of intelligence and authority. Failing that, he falls back on “I don’t just know a guy, I know THE guy” so his Harris injury update is painted as direct insider knowledge cuz he lives next to the guy, don’t you know. None of the claims are directly irrefutable, but taken all together it strains reasonableness, and that is where a simple cross exam of the claims shows the cracks (20 players came to my house to party without masks despite the CFL team COVID mandates, I worked in New York for 4 months at the height of the pandemic that closed our border with the US, I have free streaming because I can hack into the live feeds of the major US networks). The cross-exam can be kind of fun if you have the time and patience for it, and don’t get side-tracked by them waving something shiny at you to distract. Was the same with the “Mike Kelly training camp insider” who went from seeing good players, to “I know what make a good player because of my long time coaching knowledge, let me dazzle you with terminology”.

I guess that means his 20 years working in a virology lab with SARS and Ebola was 20 weeks in the club washing the STD’s off the stripper poles between acts. I’ll let myself out.

Nice to have defensive options. DeMelo could pair with Morrissey like in the playoffs which was Josh’s best stretch of play all year, or could go back with old partner Dillon. Pionk and Morrissey could pair as the top 2, or put Pionk with Stanley to protect and groom him while Schmidt gives Morrissey a bit more size as a partner. Will be curious to see how it plays out. Let Heinola over ripen in the AHL but keep him on standby for the inevitable injuries to slide in.

I’d offer up the same sentiment for the LaPo bashers. Both used their skill sets to drag us out of the 2013 doldrums and helped us achieve our first Grey Cup in 29 years. That alone should earn them both a lifetime pass on these boards.

Ok, I would phrase it differently than “garbage time” but I agree with the idea that the Riders took their foot off the gas. But when he returned in the 4th BC was turning the tide, and he hung in there. Bad last pass though. Definite deer in headlights jitters in the first half but I think he overcame them. There is something to work with in my mind with this guy. I do wonder about Bo’s health as it has been sketchy for a while, and the club is always tight lipped about his ailments or surgeries, so it is my qualifier about him on the downslope, but if he is healthy he is nowhere near twilight. I could see a Ricky Ray type backslide with the new personnel, but if he ever became trade bait a smart team would grab him in a heartbeat. He has more Grey Cups in him I would wager. LaPo could easily be the fall guy, but I think he gets the full year at least. If they swoon this season then he gets maybe 6 games next year to improve or be gone.

Too soon to say if Rourke is for real, but he hardly played in garbage time. Some promise there, but once teams have film on him then we will have a better picture of his talent. Nichols will be rostered for the indefinite future, even if he slips into back-up mode. The real question is will he be benched for ineffectiveness if his shoulder gets no better but no worse, or does he need to aggregate the injury to be pulled? LaPo is not going anywhere this year. The club will re-assess at year’s end, and I think management understands the low expectations of this rebuilding season. BLM is 31 and has the highest winning percentage of any QB in CFL history. The team won 12 games last year. Unless you know something about his past injuries still being an issue, to suggest that he is close to being done is nonsense.

Welcome. Be patient with the Rider jabs, it’s not a personal thing, just the nature of the board at times. Your team and your fans will not get many positive strokes here, but our fans love a good rivalry and good football talk. Looking forward to another spirited battle between the best 2 fanbases in the league. Riders looked pretty dialled in for at least the first 30 minutes against the Leos, and if their o-line holds up we should see some solid results from them as they battle Winnipeg and likely Calgary for top in the West.
