In your opinion, looking at talk shows specifically, is there anyone out there who does anything resembling a good job? Those agenda driven non-questions drive me bonkers. And now when you hear players interviewed (as a result of their aforementioned “media training”, I suspect), whenever they are asked a legit question that is not just a “do you agree with me that” but asks “how do you……” they are conditioned to answer “yeah” as their first word, when it makes no sense to answer the question that way. Like they aren’t even engaged in a proper answer. A pet peeve of mine. -

KFC is the NHL goals leader. And just last week all I heard is how no one was going to catch Matthews this season. -
Did you see the photo online? I can hunt for it if that helps. Always love your takes on the Bombers from yesteryear. Great for the younger fans on MBB to hear about the original glory days from someone in the know. I think this is the article you were referring to.

How does one train to make the interviewee feel more relaxed and open to telling a good story? What I mean is how much is on the interviewer’s skill and how much is simply having a good person on the other end to answer those questions? And how does the interviewer make the interviewee better? By the way, just want to say that I’m really liking the organic way this topic about broadcasting came about in this thread and the points made by many, and especially the insights of those in the know. Really fascinating talk. Great discussion all around gents (and ladies). -
Actually wasn’t. Hopefully Schoen will appear tomorrow, would be a huge addition for the offence, especially if Demski and Bailey are still dinged.

If there was a defensive back who deserved to be first to win MODP it was Juran Bolden in 2001. Teams actively changed their offensive strategy just to avoid him, and he would move around to cover the #1 receiver on every team, IIRC. QBs just would not throw his way because he was sure bet to intercept them. And he still led the league in INTs that year. -
Was asking so I could gauge how recently you had seen him and how he was progressing. Since you said “this week” it sounded like you were in Hamilton (which I guess in fact you were since it is a short trip from T.O. and you would have seen him at practice on Friday). So if you saw him this week on Friday it is encouraging and gives us who aren’t there to see it some insight and hope, since reports all week were that he wasn’t practising. But when you said you weren’t there this year and would be watching from Winnipeg, I was wondering when you saw him (like maybe Monday on their way out of town) and if he was moving well at the start of the week, it would strike me as odd that he wasn’t practising at all. Was just looking for some more intel on his status, and looking for clarity as to when he was moving well, the start of the week or the end?

Blue Bombers - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

I really liked JJ when he played here for the most part. Sadly, my lasting memory of him in the end was the year after he won MODP. We were getting hammered 35-0 in Edmonton at the half, en route to a 42-10 loss. JJ makes an interception and when the camera cuts to him on the sidelines he chirps “that’s what happens when you test number 2, best defensive player in the league”. Matt Dunigan ROASTED him at the half for boasting while down 35 points, saying that selfish me-first attitude in the face of a blowout spoke volumes about his lack of self awareness. An unfortunate side effect of “Swaggerville”. -

No harm in it I suppose, but IMO if you have to tell people who didn’t ask in the first place how great you are/were, then you weren’t as special as you think. -

Funny that the broadcasters were talking about the Arizona goalie working on his puck handling and decision-making outside the crease, then a minute later, oops! -
GDT: Game 17 vs Arizona RIDICULOUS START TIME ALERT

I am not looking at an argument. I cannot speak to other arenas and other fan bases. I don’t recall hearing a boo regularly in other cities during the anthem, but I don’t make a point of listening to the anthem in other cities. If it has happened (and I accept your position that it has happened), I would be disgusted by it. But having had season tickets to the Bombers and flex packs to the Jets, I can say with full confidence that people are not booing here. The Bombers “glorious and blue” has been a thing since we moved into IG Field, if not before. It is a rip-off from the Roughriders “glorious and green” they chanted at old Mosaic (which made more sense since “green” and “free” at least sound the same). Since “True North” became a big thing at Jets games, the Bomber fans wanted their own chant, so that is what they came up with. And since “True North” bled into anthems at Bomber games, the “blue” shout out has been co-opted during Jets games, especially with the success of the football club. -

In my experience it has always been glorious and “blue”. They have done it for years. Just like Bomber fans do the “True North” chant at Bomber games, just more muted then the “glorious and blue” they belt out at IG Field every anthem. -

They aren’t booing. They are chanting glorious and “BLUE” as a salute to the Bombers. -

J.J. doing some self-promotion on Twitter. Thoughts? -
So when exactly did you see Schoen this week?
-
Given there are 3 back-ups behind Bighill rostered, and 8 linebackers for 3 spots in total, I doubt he is playing tomorrow. And even with Rose not rostered we have 2 back-up DBs and 3 back-up d-linemen. If we are short with Schoen out, we need help at receiver, where we would have one back-up (Grant) at receiver with Demski and Bailey both banged up and McCrae not even rostered, so guessing he is still too hurt. Wonder if Ambles or Alston gets brought in on an emergency basis? Offence is where we need back-up protection, not another d-lineman. If Biggie is replaced on the d, I could see Rose coming in since we can anticipate a pass heavy offence from the Als.

Answer: because it works and we are winning. Because he does what the club asks, works hard at a thankless task of blocking on offence and special teams, fills a big role on the short yardage offence which has been extremely effective this season. O’Shea has been open about his reasons but some don’t listen here because they have been convinced by others that O’Shea doesn’t have a clue how manage a roster, all actual evidence to the contrary, and would rather see an 8th d-lineman bolster our already number 1 defence instead of having a starting fullback on heavy package plays. People may not like the answer and tune it out in favour of their personal narrative, but it’s not like O’Shea hasn’t hid his reasons from us.

Dull first period, good second, bad third, but Hellebuyck probably steals it in the third and a win is a win.

So the quick answer is yes it has happened before, but with a caveat. In the earliest years of the MOP award (starting in 1953) the eastern and western teams did not play an interlocking schedule, so the only chance for them to meet was in the Grey Cup. So in 1953 the MOP was Edmonton’s Billy Vessels, but the Tiger-Cats beat Winnipeg in the Grey Cup, so he did not face Hamilton. It happened 3 more times in the 1950’s when the Esks Jackie Parker (in ‘57 and ‘58) and Johnny Bright (in ‘59) won MOP but Hamilton and Winnipeg played in the Cup each year. By the time Montreal’s George Dixon won MOP without playing in the Grey Cup, CFL teams were playing a full interlocking schedule, so he faced the Bombers in the regular season. I haven’t done a deep dive through the rest of the 1960’s and 1970’s, but as far as I can tell, the MOP for each season from 1980 to 2022 either played for or against the eventual Grey Cup champions for that season. There were two close calls though. In 2002 Milt Stegall did play against Edmonton in one game, and started the second before being injured early, and then did not play in the playoff game as the Esks went on to win the Cup. In 2004 BC’s Casey Printers won MOP and did play eventual champion Toronto at home in August as he was replacing an injured Dave Dickenson. He’d play a bit of the re-match in Toronto before being pulled midway through a loss. And then he famously was sat for the Cup in favour of Dickenson three days after winning the MOP, and the Argos won. Now since the whole implication of this question is that Kelly sat out against the Bombers in their lone meeting and the Bombers are destined to win, if you have now angered the football Gods with your presumptive confidence and jinxed us come this Sunday if the Als pull off an upset, and made me do all this work to boot, then
