  2. Time to pull Hellebuyck. His one annual stinker is tonight apparently.
  3. Barron on the third line now as they try to shake it up. And DeMelo back on after being knocked down earlier.
  4. Jets penalty kill has not been aggressive enough of late. Teams just moving it around until they get their lane.

  6. I am watching from Falcon Lake, but I’ve never had that message out here before. Shaw satellite, Jets’ broadcast. Weird because Vancouver is a Sportsnet team.
  7. Yep, TSN 3. Can see the game underneath it, but the entire upper left quadrant has the sign in grey (like watching the game through a heavy mosquito net).
  8. Very loud “True North” chant in the enemy barn. Is anyone else getting a “regional viewing” notification on their tv screen over the video feed?
  9. Magic/Tragic # as of March 18 West - Magic # Winnipeg - 6 Dallas - 17 Vegas - 18 Colorado - 19 Edmonton - 22 Los Angeles - 23 Minnesota - 23 Vancouver - 31 ——————— Tragic # Calgary - 33 St. Louis - 29 Utah - 29 Anaheim - 23 Seattle - 19 Nashville - 18 Chicago - 7 San Jose - 1 (mathematically eliminated already, will be officially eliminated as early as tonight, no later than March 20) East - Magic # Washington - 5 Carolina - 15 Florida - 16 Tampa Bay - 18 Toronto - 18 New Jersey - 21 Ottawa - 24 Montreal - 30 ——————- Tragic # Columbus - 30 Detroit - 30 NY Islanders- 30 NY Rangers - 30 Boston - 25 Buffalo - 22 Pittsburgh - 22 Philadelphia - 20
  10. After the Blue Jackets loss, Washington’s magic number is down to 5.
  11. Nice pick play by Namestnikov on the game winner in OT. Sold it well enough to look like an accident, but the Jets may have gotten away with a missed call there
  12. Tracking the elimination and playoff clinching of all NHL teams. With the Blues win last night, San Jose has become the first team mathematically eliminated from playoff contention this year. They can do no better than 73 points, tied with both Vancouver and St Louis who are in a dead heat for the final playoff spot in the West. Since those two teams play each other on Thursday, the Sharks will be officially eliminated that night. Smallest magic # (to clinch a playoff spot): 6 - Winnipeg (both the Jets and the Capitals can clinch a playoff spot as early as March 20). Smallest tragic # (to be eliminated from playoff contention): 1 - San Jose (can be eliminated as early as March 18, will be eliminated no later than March 20).
  13. Of all of Hellebuyck’s stats this year (#1 in wins, GAA, save %, shutouts, games and minutes played, goals saved above expected, games with save % above .900, % of games with save % above .900) this might be the most astounding - of his 51 starts, he has given up one goal or less in 21 of them. Imagine going into a game thinking that to have a chance at a win, you will need to basically shut out the 3rd best offence in hockey right now. How he is not the runaway leader for the Hart Trophy right now, especially given his team’s overall success, is beyond me.
  14. Not too pleased with the reffing. A brutal missed offside by two feet on the Stars and two called on the Jets player who carried the puck over the line. And for all the stuff that has been let go, that interference call on Miller for a body check was weak. Just be consistent, they are not tonight.
  15. Scheifele came to play tonight. Tanev works 50% harder than any other player, what a motor! And Schenn is a hitting machine. Crushed Rantonen into the Jets net. Solid period. Atmosphere at the arena is electric tonight.
  16. “Big D” vs the best D. Less than 100 seats left (aside from scattered single seats) before it is declared a sellout.
  17. Right now, the Jets can clinch a playoff spot as early as next Tuesday, assuming all games for them and their challengers in the West turn out in their favour.
  18. That is counting wins, not points, so it is not accurate (since you could lose in OT and reduce the number, and saying 6.5 wins is stupid). Also with the Canucks losing, the number is actually 6. Ignore the shiny colours and trust the original.
  19. Was hoping to hear Jets traded Heinola, Barlow, and a 1st (and maybe more) to Pittsburgh for Sidney Crosby. Too late? And Elias Petterson is still out there as a centre, but I would not touch that contract without some severe salary retention by the Canucks.
  20. I wouldn’t race to pick up Brayden Schenn. Blues are probably asking a lot, he has 3 years left on a $6.5 million/year contract at age 33, with only 12 goals and 38 points this year, has been a seriously minus player for 3 years now. If you want a good centre option, get Donato from Chicago (UFA but only $2 million contract and 23 goals, 46 points this year at age 28).
  21. Was at the game last night, Philly was able to break out of their zone way too easily and won the board battles too frequently. Jets kept trying long break out passes that were not working. But had Connor scored on that short-handed breakaway (had the goalie beat, but was in too tight to tuck the puck in) how different that game might have gone? Something still not clicking on the power play and it has cost them 3 points now in the last two games, but they did get the right look and set up for Ehlers’ slot shot, just got robbed by the goalie, so at least the process was OK. Noticed the anthem flub, if it was deliberate (highly doubt it) it was a lost effort as no one could make out what he was singing. Before the game I spoke with some American friends (all live in St. Louis, one is an ex-Marine and police officer) about the booing of the anthem. All understand it, one said she doesn’t blame Canadians for doing it, and if the shoe was on the other foot she would expect some Americans to boo the Canadian anthem equally, she is disgusted by the current US administration and would like to boo the President to his face. Her husband (the ex-military) says he understands the booing, would not boo himself in any circumstance, but respects people’s freedom of expression to do it - he tries to ignore the politics and just enjoy the game for itself). My other friend is an ex-pat Canadian who still holds on to her Canadian roots proudly, and has been offered apologies by every American who crosses her path. She is very politically active, and says not only is she OK with the booing, but says those Americans who are bothered by Canadians’ reactions and who remain silent and don’t criticize what is going on and speak out against it they are just as responsible for what is going on, a less violent supporter than the J6ers but still a tacit supporter, weaponizing their alleged patriotism to be offended in the face of justified criticism. All this to say I did not boo last night, but instead refused to stand for the US anthem in light of the Oval Office confrontation the day before. All 3 of my American friends accepted if not whole-heartedly supported my stance. Final thought on the game, kept a close eye on Logan Stanley last night, we give him a rough ride, quite justifiably most nights, but yesterday I felt he was one of the best players on the ice. Smooth skating, confident with the puck, positionally sound on almost every play, and made quick smart decisions with his passing out of the d-zone all night. Yes, he had a couple of errors (dropping to a knee on the 2 on 1 instead of sprawling most notably) but that is hockey, a game of quick action and mistakes, and he did not stand out in that area as much as many others. Even on a play where he took the body rather than back up which led to a 1 on 1 play, he did not lose the man he checked to create an odd man rush. Right now “he looks better” is a low bar to clear for him, but maybe things are hopefully starting to click a bit more. I remember Wayne Gretzky speaking of a game in Ottawa when he was a Ranger when he told his coach “any time that big guy goes on the ice, put me on, I can dominate him every time”. 4 months later they played again and he told his coach “any time that big guy is on, keep me in the bench, I can’t compete with him”. That was Zdeno Chara he was talking about. Now not at all saying Logan projects to anything near that, but it shows that you can’t predict when the lightbulb comes on for any player. Tepid praise overall at this moment, but I hope to see more growth in his game like I saw last night, and maybe he becomes serviceable, or more lucrative trade bait at least.
  22. Agreed, that why I put multiple steps in. But winning the division is a big advantage, so that’s the goal I am interested in
  23. Leave the math to me. Just revel in the numbers getting smalller.
  24. LOVE this title!! Kudos, sir. Since anthem singing has become political now, and the club shows no signs of not singing the US despite the boos, after today would really like to see the Hoosli Men’s Ukrainian Chorus sing the anthems tomorrow and include the Ukrainian anthem like they did once before. I would stand and cheer for that.
