  1. Lots I don't know about the inner workings of American politics, but from my viewpoint: Trump and the Russian bots want to push the "they'll cheat Bernie out of it" narrative on Twitter, and they created the Biden scandal around impeachment, which seems to have legitimately hurt Biden at the start of the primary push. This tells me they fear Biden as the opponent a lot more than Sanders, so that leaves me wanting to root for Biden. As has been said, a Biden-Trump election focusses on Trump and what America's soul wants to be. Not sure that results in a Biden win, but it will certainly crystallize what America really is (if 2016 didn't already open eyes as to just how misogynistic and racist and old-boy establishment capitalist it truly is). A Sanders-Trump campaign is much more about capitalism vs socialism, and the US has been pretty well indoctrinated to hate socialism as Evil Empire old state Russia and Cuba communism. Vastly overblown, but simple fear tactics are remarkably effective in the USA in swaying the general populace. Don't agree with those who say that the safe Biden choice guarantees a loss where we need a radical Bernie shift to energize progressives. Young people flock to Bernie, and that may be the future at some point, but young people for all their (some will call it "woke") activism don't for the most part follow that up with actually getting out and voting. Older folks get out and vote, which is why the old white men so often are left standing. Dems need women and the African-American vote, and Biden carries that. Hopefully Bernie supporters won't be butt-hurt sore if he loses again and refuse to vote. They cried foul because Hillary took all the superdelegates even if Bernie led the polls, but the simple fact is that she still beat him 34-23 in primary contests, had a 450 delegate lead if you remove the superdelegates, and won the popular vote by 3.7 million in their run-off. Bernie backers need to get over the "he got cheated last time, and they'll screw him over again this time" mantra, he lost no matter how you look at it. He has created a movement, but right now America does not need radical to fight radical. Biden keeps pushing the "re-claim America's soul" narrative and it can work. Let AOC lead the march towards and more social democracy when she has a few more years under her belt - America could much more easily buy into her campaign than Bernie's IMO if that is the future. As for dirt, all Trump really can play up with Biden is Burisma and covering for his offspring who got a cushy job because of who his dad is, and do Republicans really want to push that narrative in a one-on-one fight, given what is happening with Ivanka, Jared, Don Jr. and Eric? Biden could easily say, "OK, let's open up that can of worms, but for both candidates - show us all how clean your familial dealings through the Presidency have been" and Trump can't refuse to play along but continue to push for transparency from Joe. With Bernie, it will be "socialism will destroy everything that America is" and Repubs are remarkable - I won't call them patriots - but flag-wavers for sure, who chafe at the idea that anything star spangled red, white and blue is less than the most awesome thing ever. Also, Obama will heartily endorse his former VP as the Dem pick, and it won't feel fake. Same with the Clintons. Dems need a recovery election right now (a course correction from Trumpism rather than a true "left vs right" debate) and Biden can offer that safety. But I agree that his running mate needs to be the spark for progressive change for the future. Warren might fit the bill nicely there.
  2. Have run this before, but always a good reminder of how incoherent Trump is.
  3. Before we decry the state of Manitoba men's curling too much, we should acknowledge that, in addition to having not one but 2 Provincial teams in the field, there are other good Manitoba curlers transplanted on to other teams. BJ Neufeld is on Team Canada, Ryan Fry is playing with Ontario, and Matt Dunstone is skipping Saskatchewan.

  5. First banner in 3 decades, season ticket holder for 39 years and wouldn't you know I will miss this game.
  6. Dennis Beyak was saying at the end of the Jets' broadcast that, as he predicted, Calgary and Nashville were headed to the "three point game" ending aThis could be the moment we look back on if ther Jest s they were tied at 2 with under 5 minutes to go. Well, Calgary scores with 47 seconds left and it suddenly looks promising for the Jets to climb back into a playoff spot. Nashville then ties it up with 0.1 seconds left and then win it in overtime. Worst case scenario for the Jets as Nashville steals 2 points and Calgary still gets 1. This could be the moment we look back on if the Jets miss out on the playoffs by one point.
  7. Wow, 27 minute lag time. You're slipping.
  8. So market crashes over 1,000 points Monday, and another 850 points Tuesday. Trump tweets Wednesday (Tuesday night? 3:00 a.m. Wednesday? Exact time is unclear) that the market crash is due to the hysteria from the MSM and not the Coronavirus uncertainty, and points to the talking points at the Democratic debate blaming the government for being ill-prepared as instilling unfounded market fears. Note that the market had dropped 1,900 points BEFORE the debate had even happened. So a Wednesday correction early as the market jumps over 400 points but can't even sustain it by noon, and ends up another 125 in the red by day's end. So Trump holds a press conference to quell all fears and presumably steady the market from all the unfounded doom and gloom coronavirus naysayers. The presser's info? Trump says he doesn't think the epidemic will hit the US, maybe will hit the US, probably will hit the US (all in the same speech) but that they are more prepared than anyone in history has ever been. Says he found out it is not like the flu, then says later it is like the flu (CDC head was standing behind him and later gave their own briefing to say it is NOT like the flu). Says a simple vaccine is being developed very quickly [CDC again at the post-Trump "correction" conference says 6-8 months at absolute fastest for efficacy trials for any vaccine - which is a time frame that has never been met before, BTW (their own words, not mine) and that the application won't really be in effect for 18 months]. Appoints VP Pence, "an expert in the area", to handle the potential epidemic (note to those who hadn't already figured it out from Pence's religious, anti-science, evolution-rejecting background and want to vett his credentials - he isn't an expert in the field). The result of the presser (remember the goal is in part to quell the hysteria that the Dems are feeding to the media)? Dow down an all-time record 1,200 points today. 10% drop in 4 days (officially in correction territory). And some analysts rightly point our that that tumble is based solely on fear of what could happen at this point and no real actual lasting tangible damage that has already occurred from the epidemic, one that the CDC says is inevitable. I'm guessing the speech did not have the effect he intended. But "BEST ECONOMY IN HISTORY!"
  9. Me coming back to this thread every day to see if there is any news:
  10. From the David French article about the jury bias argument. "In the meantime, don’t believe any Twitter lawyer who claims that partisans must be disqualified from serving on juries. The question isn’t whether Hart is a Democrat, it’s whether she hid facts that would have provided a valid basis to challenge her presence on the jury." Posted just because I really like the term "twitter lawyer". Perfect description.
  11. My reaction to the news?
  12. I am SOOOOO glad you are not our G.M.
  13. Running for his life against Dallas-Carter, with no Boobie Miles to hand the ball off to. You'd be horrified too.
  14. How could you forget Mike Winchell?
  15. Wore #22 with Boston College and with the New Jersey Generals in the USFL. Then went to the NFL where QBs must wear a jersey number between 1 and 19, so he wore #2 with Chicago and New England. Then came to the CFL and resurrected #22 with BC. When he went to Calgary, #22 was retired (Tom Forzani) so he wore #20 there. Once in Toronto he wore #2. Back to the NFL with Buffalo where he wore #7 (kicker Steve Christie wore #2 at that time I believe), and kept #7 when he went to San Diego. Finally, he ended up in New England where he once again wore #2. And now you know...…… the rest of the story.
  16. Now that you are officially gone, I will echo these thanks for your role as our QB on the field, but I'd also like to thank you for the person you were off the field. Making Winnipeg your home for your family, staying during the winter for promotional purposes, for the love you showed the community, even when that love was not returned by those who forgot that behind the player was a human being. And a HUGE thank you for your family's $10,000 donation to the Children's Hospital Foundation. You were first class all the way in my books, and I hope you have a happy, healthy, and successful continuation of your career in Toronto. You will always stand as a Grey Cup champion quarterback who helped end the drought for Winnipeg.
  17. If Dems can hold all of their seats, then they only need to flip 5 of the 23 Republican seats. Surprising that Kentucky is not considered a toss-up, given that McConnell has a 29% approval rating in his state right now. Would like to think that there are more unsafe Republican seats in the senate after the impeachment cover-up, but of course voters have short memories. It would be glorious to control 2/3 of the Senate and then go after Trump in impeachment again if he is re-elected.
  18. So I guess since a Republican voted to convict, it isn't partisan anymore. Like the Repubs bragged in the House vote, since only one side voted in a bipartisan way, only one side should be taken seriously, no? Any word from McConnell on this "partisan sham" now?
  19. I would have debated some of your points, but if this is your default position, that our 7-2 starting QB had nothing to do with any of our success at all, then there is really no point in trying to reason with you.
  20. Remind me again who on this site always ******* about stupid Rider fans who wear their gear while on holidays on the beach outside of Canada and says how dumb it is?
  21. Love how everyone who complains about the dysfunctional offence pretends it had to do with the LaPo system and Nichols checkdowns and ignores the fact that Streveler taking over the controls coincides with the decrease in production (and wins).
  22. But honestly, if the Dems took control of everything, would the public really be that bloodthirsty that they'd want a true revenge investigation on people who had already been voted out? Trump has enough criminal investigation pending from SDNY to face after he leaves office that I don't think the sitting government would try to expose all his wrongdoings while president. THAT would look like cheap political point scoring (which I would personally enjoy but would not accomplish anything).
  23. Here is the full list of Super Bowl/Grey Cup dual winners (12 in total) as far as I have researched it (accurate to 2015, not aware of any others since then, but not confirmed): NOTE: Super Bowl year refers to the NFL season played, not the actual calendar year of the game itself (so a team listed as winning in 1987 actually won the Super Bowl game in January 1988) OJ Brigance: GC - Baltimore 1995, SB - Baltimore 2001 (only player to win both playing for the same city) Brandon Browner: GC - Calgary 2008, SB - Seattle 2013 (did not play in game, suspended) and New England 2014 Dan Federkeil: SB - Indianapolis 2006, GC - Calgary 2014 Terry Greer: GC - Toronto 1983, SB - San Francisco 1989 and 1990 Harald Hasselbach: GC - Calgary 1992, SB - Denver 1997 and 1998 Tim Jessie: SB - Washington 1987, GC - Winnipeg 1988 (as noted, only player to win both in the same calendar year) Josh Miller: GC - Baltimore 1995, SB - New England 2005 (greatest gap between championships) Andre Rison: SB - Green Bay 1996, GC - Toronto 2004 Bobby Singh: SB - St. Louis 1999, GC - BC 2006 (also won an XFL title with LA in 2001, the only player to pull off the NFL/CFL/XFL trifecta) Alvin Walton: SB - Washington 1987 and 1991, GC - Baltimore 1995 Barry Wilburn: SB - Washington 1987, GC - BC 1994 Tyrone Williams: SB - Dallas 1992 (practice roster player only) and 1993 (roster but did not play in SB game itself), GC - Toronto 1996 Two other fun bits of trivia: Yo Murphy won a World Bowl title with Scotland in 1996 (was the game MVP to boot), won a Grey Cup with BC in 1994 and with Saskatchewan in 2007, and lost the Super Bowl with St. Louis in 2001 (and played in the XFL as well, only player to start in all 4 leagues and play in the WLAF/NFL/CFL title games) Jackson Jeffcoat won the Grey Cup with Winnipeg in 2019, and does not have a Super Bowl ring but could easily inherit a pair. His dad Jim won 2 titles as a player with Dallas in 1992 and 1993.
