  1. The top team in the conference plays the lower wildcard seed, regardless of which division each are in, so right now Dallas would play LA and Vancouver would get Nashville. Likewise, NYR would get Washington and Boston would get Tampa.
  2. I believe we ripped it off from Saskatchewan. In the age of fan bases dropping their team names or symbols as a chant during the national anthem (like the “True North” shout out), the Riders jumped on the band wagon and wanted to come up with something for their team. I am told (although I never noticed it in any games I attended at Mosaic) that when the line “glorious and free” came up, the fans changed it to “glorious and green” in a quasi rhyme reflecting their team colour. We co-opted it and went with the completely non-rhyming (and non-sensical) “glorious and blue” as a direct copycat move. Also because we didn’t want Jets fans having all the fun. Why we don’t yell “Blue” for “True” North Strong and Free instead is beyond me. Seems like a much more sensible fit and borrows the Jets theme but makes it Bomber centric.
  3. This skit always made me laugh a lot harder than the concept of it should have. As for the Pepsi joke at the end, IYKYK.
  4. Blues win in OT, so magic number down to 2. Next chance to clinch is Thursday.
  5. Perfetti again! All I can say is: N’ A!!!!!!!
  6. Connor 0 goals, 2 assists, and -10 the last 6 games. Tonight 3 assists and +1.
  7. Perfetti with a goal and an f-bomb. One assist away from the John Tortorella hat trick.
  8. Oops, error on my part. If this scenario happens, the Jets will indeed rid themselves of the Blues as competition, however Minnesota will still have a mathematical chance of surpassing them. But if the Jets do win tonight the. A loss of any kind eliminates the Wild, which could happen as early as tomorrow. So the celebration will have to wait for now.
  9. A win and an Edmonton win over St. Louis in regulation tonight and the Jets punch their ticket to the post season.
  10. Yeah those zero playoff games in 6 seasons are so inspiring. Putting the team on his back and carrying them to the draft lottery every year.
  11. Ehlers opens things up, 1-0 Jets.
  12. It wasn’t being blinded by money so much as it was needing the infusion of cash to keep the league alive. All the talk about Toronto failing now, or Edmonton or Calgary struggling with old stadiums and BC’s failing attendance previously, is nothing compared to the death throes the league was in in the early 1990’s. No US teams and the league would have died. But the cost to the product was being required to comply with US labour laws which would not allow Canadians to take US jobs in favour of an equal or superior US citizen. So the American teams had the unfair advantage of having all US back-up players.
  13. Since you brought it up: Until the 2019 West Final in Saskatchewan, this game was the best one I ever saw live. Like a true heavyweight fight, trading punches in a game with a rare south wind, but one that was so intense scoring into it was impossible. So many “almost” chances, especially the cross bar preventing the Bombers their lone TD chance. And if video review existed back then the Bombers win. The lone Baltimore TD was a fumble recovery when Woodside’s knee was clearly down before the ball came out, and Pringle fumbled late and the refs called the play down when it wasn’t. Add in the messed up fake field goal (Cameron was spotting the tee and was not in the huddle to hear that the fake was on, so he was the only one not to know what the play was. Westwood would score his only career TD the following year on the same fake call, this time executed perfectly) and this loss stung. Toss in the “illegal shoe” call (which was more galling following the Edmonton playoff debacle two years later where the Esks got away with blatantly cheating in the same fashion) and Cal Murphy said this was the toughest loss he ever had as a coach - one he never got over. The only game I have been physically exhausted after watching, it was that mentally draining to be at, cheering madly but in the end just not quite enough to carry the team to victory.
  14. Watching the PP be say an Edmonton on Tuesday, the movement is so different. The Jets get into their set positions and try the pass, whereas whoever had the puck for the Oilers would be constantly in motion even if not passing the puck or driving the net. That constant motion makes it hard for the penalty kill to establish their box, or diamond, or whatever. So if the Jets’ passing is not fast and crisp, it’s so much easier for a defender to get into a lane, or force the long point shot by cutting off other passes. JMO.
  15. When we officially get there (and I am on record saying it will happen! - just won’t say when, lol) I will be sure to announce it.
  16. We have not clinched yet. Based on our current points total and the projected points that St. Louis will collect by season’s end (estimated by using their current winning percentage over a full season) we have likely accrued enough points already to get in, but it is not official yet. So far, only the NY Rangers have officially clinched a playoff spot.
  17. Saw the Beeman’s gum ad on the sidelines, almost forgot about that big time corporate sponsor for TSN. Anyone who dislikes the repetitive Save-On food commercials today would be gouging their eyes out at the lame Beeman’s spots that ran ad nauseum that season.
  18. Fans of the Winnipeg Jets counts their magic number in wins, so their “3” is actually the same as my “6” in points. I feel mine is more accurate as points can be gathered without actually winning, so saying they need a combo of 3 wins or opponent losses is not truly accurate. Us stats junkies take the precision of this kind of triviality seriously!
  19. Note that my magic number is points, not wins, since you can clinch with something like an overtime loss.
  20. Given the picture of two stoners who love marijuana, that could mean any of 24 teams from the Provinces or States where it is legal, but I’d lean to Seattle or Colorado who started it all 😉
  21. Hoped for a better result, not not disappointed in their play today. They had the better chances on the first, dominated the second, looked good on the penalty kill and almost got through the one where the goal happened. Fluky bounce on the second one, so they really only got burned on the third goal with a bad read by Samberg when they were pressing. Even with the goals, play was pretty even in the third 5 on 5 I’m not quitting on this team yet.
