  1. So now the right leaning Washington Examiner reports that Cawthorn could be indicted for insider trading, and supposedly the lingerie photos of him were leaked by GOP staffers. He is getting a lot of bad press just before his primary. Scuttlebutt is that the Republican machine wants him out. Someone did not care for him going public with their cocaine orgy parties, I guess.
  2. John Bonk. GM of the 1984 Grey Cup team - Paul Robson Also a shout out to George Druxman, whose post-playing career included owing the Pembina Hotel. Many a night was enjoyed at the Pemby during my mid-spent youth.
  3. I’m not so sure. I think they might want to see what a new voice behind the bench can do for him before they cut bait. And if they are thinking of moving him, it has better be for a good return more than just to shake up the team. Fans that want to scream “tear down and re-build” will be the first to whine when they suddenly realize that a full re-build is a five year undertaking on average in the NHL these days.
  4. FYI the event has been moved inside to the Pinnacle Club for tomorrow for all those Karen’s who are made of sugar. 😁 Give me the 80’s blue and gold striped socks as well and the football W shoulder logo.
  5. Comrie with his first career goose egg. Deserves a song.
  6. Interesting stat on Sportsnet. Only 3 players in the NHL have had better than a point per game average each year for the past 6 seasons. Crosby has a 17 year streak, McDavid a 7 year streak, and currently at 6 years is……..Mark Scheifele.
  7. Or the teams they are playing have no motivation so they can play looser and have home advantage.
  8. At first glance it would seem that all the “yardage” changes are meant to create more scoring by shortening the field. Also may discourage giving up a safety instead of punting, almost like giving the other team 2 points and then the ball at centre field. May encourage giving up a single rather than running out a missed FG given the starting point, but otherwise opens up the kick return game. Watch for frustrated fans on the bounce-back punts that nail you for 15 yards now. Still wish they would change the OT rule to start the team at the 45 and not the 35, don’t make a field goal an almost automatic minimum scoring play.
  9. I was looking for that one. This was a tough day to pick. Had KD Williams, Tom Canada, and three Hall of Famers in Bob Swift, Roger Savoie, and Lou Mogul as other options to choose from, but a Cup hoisting gif is never a bad choice. Here are photos of the tackle: And here is the video. The specific play is at 5:40 but the whole thing is worth watching again!
  10. Saw this on Twitter in a Newsmax feed, so wasn’t sure if it was real or not, but Global also reported it:
  11. When Donald Trump himself boasts about grabbing women by the……we all know the quote……and it does not move the needle on his campaign, this is a nothingburger for his supporters. Honestly, the only Republican value it seems is left for the majority of the party is “own the Libs and seize power”. Democrats should just accept this and stop trying to placate, take the same attitude of “bury the Republicans” and be confident that you have the voter numbers to do so.
  12. Happy Monday all! 3 days to the new jersey unveiling! I hear it won’t be this so already a win: And only 20 days until training camp opens! 46 days away from the regular season. Three-peat here we come!
  13. Connor had an open net and shovelled it through the crease. Had one but could have netted 3 or 4 but for missing the net. Same deal with Wheeler, could have had a hat trick with better hands. But a good effort overall. Playing loose payed off tonight.
  14. Wheeler finally gets rewarded.
  15. Look again. BTW, with Scheifele injured, Jets are 1-4 with 11 goals scored and 22 against. Power play 1/11. As you would say…..interesting.
  16. Jets have missed the net from the slot between the dots or closer at least 4 times already tonight.
  17. So I did not realize that the International designation is no more with the Global addition. It’s now National, American, and Global, so no chance to switch Hansen to International and bring in a new minimum salary Global. So yes, they should scrap the low cap.
  18. Has been re-set for April 28 at 6:00 pm at IG Field. Check your e-mail to see if you got a registration request to attend.
  19. Good question. Is it surviving now with only diehards? What confounds me is that the centres with the biggest populations (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver) are in the most trouble. One would think more people would mean more overall fans, but they show large scale indifference. Maybe a downsize to smaller communities and a profit model where 15,000 attendance means a profit or 10,000 is break even. So either ticket prices go up or costs need to be slashed to make that feasible, and open up a smaller place like Halifax, Moncton, Saskatoon, Victoria, London, Laval, etc. as a place to put a team.
  20. Pierre Luc Labbe, sporting the number of his draft position for motivation.
  21. There certainly could be more than I am thinking. I have a hunch that there will be some who say they will never watch and mean it, and may truly believe it and will boycott early, but will relent at some point. I vowed never to watch baseball again after the 94 strike robbed the Expos of a World Series and then killed the team. Kept that principled stance for 20 years too, but the Jays’ run in 2015 brought me back, because I had a team to root for again.
