  1. Coming into the office this morning downtown Edmonton feels good. Waving my blue and gold all over the place is making everyone's morning. It would have been even better if I worked downtown Regina. Well maybe not.
  2. When a pro kicker (maybe the non gamer) has been struggling prior to that specific kick or or maybe has been struggling the past few games, I like call of a timeout. Gives the opposing players time to get into his head. Whatever little advantage you can get, I'll take.
  3. Although I do agree with this. :-)
  4. You're writing off your Riders this early into the season?
  5. I think what some of us are saying is yes you are right, people playing the sport know the risk and make the choice to play. A lot of us love watching and playing aggressive, violent hard hitting football and don't want that taken away. However the issue we are discussing is at the grassroots level numbers are continually going down which may eventually lead not having enough players to field teams at the atom, peewee and bantam levels. Alberta has followed suit with other provinces in going 6 v 6 at the atom level to help with numbers, development and safety. I was at a meeting a couple of months ago with football Canada in attendance and they let us know that the peewee and bantam levels rosters must be at 25 or you can't field a team. The argument here less numbers more chance for injuries. They have suggested peewee might go to 9 v 9 to help with this. Therefore football is being forced/encouraged to change the way football has been traditionally taught e.g., teaching players not to tackle with the head leading to get the head out of the game. Obviously this hasn't reached the pro level (and it may never due to a lot of other issues but primarily being revenue) but we're talking generations down the road and what that will look like. If the number of kids wanting to play football continues to dry up there is legitimate concern for the future of our great sport of football. I remember how upset I was when my kid got called for blowing up a a defensive player who was focussed on the ball carrier and didn't see my son coming. It was a clean block but the rule that has been put in place is a player can't lower his shoulder into the oppositions's chest if that player is in a vulnerable position regardless if it is a clean block and is close to the ball carrier. Me being upset at this as a dad and as a coach is a moot point if eventually not enough youth play football that will catch up to us at some point. Alternately just build a damn good football helmet and some/most of this goes away. (maybe not, that's a whole different discussion).
  6. I thought I would never hate the word Jet. Then Mike Kelly came onto the scene.
  7. The way he has and is currently playing for us, I would suggest he is still in his prime. When healthy, and looking at his stats since 2008, he hasn't shown anything to suggest otherwise. He runs and catches like a beast. Blue and Gold looks very nice on him.
  8. This looks encouraging. http://www.cnn.com/videos/cnnmoney/2016/09/08/vicis-football-helmets-concussions-nfl-cnnmoney.cnn (sorry if the link doesn't work, just go to the CNN website if interested)
  9. Bingo. I remember a telecast where him and Benevides were getting into it which really put this on display. It appears that's how he's hardwired.
  10. That is one amazing stat on Collaros. There is no way one could have predicted this. What is it? Lack of confidence, support, coaching, health, combo? Or is it actually talent?
  11. At least he's not wasting away on the sidelines anymore.
  12. 'You're entitled to your own opinions, but you are not entitled to your own facts' - Daniel Patrick "Pat" Moynihan Listening to Ben Sasse Republican from Nebraska quoting Moynihan when in talking with Jake Tapper about weaponizing mistrust.
  13. Yup, more on securing the tackle wrip and wrap less on seeking the big hit without the arms.
  14. I'd probably be one of those though not as extreme as you're putting it. I think he's deserved some that criticism due to his overall play at LB but he did play well last night. Here's hoping he's turned the corner.
  15. Not a fan of Hurl but he played well last night and I especially liked his conversation with Glenn at the coin toss for the second OT. Painful to watch the first 1 3/4 quarters. Randle played his usual blanket self. I thought Knox was a beast on special teams. Dressler was the man of the hour by far. Oh how sweet for that to happen in the Prider stadium with all those Dressler jerseys. Nice to see Washington get a off balance run backward TD. I really liked your point JBR on our DE's cheating inside that let Glenn escape pressure from the interior. Suitor said something interesting last night that I've been advocating for a while now. He said coaches have 30 seconds to call a challenge or it moves to the next play. That's the first I've heard of that rule and if it is an actual rule it sure doesn't see to be enforced.
  16. Yup, the perils of being a hardcore BlueBomber fan. :-)
  17. One way to attract and keep younger fans is to make a CFL video game. Seriously. My son (13 years old) loves , watches and plays football, knows all the players on his favorite team (Eagles) and buys their product. One reason, the John Madden video game.
  18. Wow, those bare stands. I'm officially worried about CFL football in the Big Smoke.
  19. You still haven't answered my original question. Enjoy your weekend.
  20. Thanks for not answering the question and doing your go to deflect approach. Here's where I disagree with you. I believe CNN being an untrustworthy source has nothing to do with Trump being crazy but you seem to join those two issues together with your posts.
  21. What's a comfortable approach for you when someone disagrees with you, wants to offer up an alternative point of view without you feeling you're been told to do something? I thought I challenged something based on what you wrote, attempting to do it in a respectful way, according to how I see things as well. It's not a personal attack, It's called a dialogue, debate, discourse.
  22. I have no idea what you mean by this.
  23. Maybe this isn't your intent but this can sound like, 'yea this is bad but that's just as bad or worse' argument that can sometimes distract us. One issue doesn't cancel the other out in terms of it's seriousness. Let's not deflect away from the issue at hand. If the issue at hand is CNN is an untrustworthy medium, let's look at it and analyze it with facts and less on ideology. If the issue at hand is Trump is a crazy ass lunatic, let's look at it and analyze it with facts and less on ideology. Let's stop jumping back and forth with issues that deflects our attention and spend some time together focused on a specific issue.
  24. Nice gratitude statement with a sprinkle of reality. A lot of us can relate.
