  1. Actually, never thought of that comparison, makes sense. You got me thinking. I'll go deeper into the Jets future, how about Dougie Smail but with hands?
  2. May be the fact that Kane is unavailable to play until next year. This makes it difficult for a fan who follows their Sabres to feel they received something good in return. As Kane/Meyers were the central figures, no instant 'gratification' for Sabres fans so to speak.
  3. I just don't see Glenn wanting to sign here even if it comes down to Winnipeg being the only team showing serious interest.
  4. LMAO at one of the comments. Kane, Scheifele and Morrissey for Kessel
  5. Not if the Jets can get back to winning consistently like they were before. Why would our GM feel pressured if his existing squad is doing well, knowing there is always room for improvement. Again, the pressure will mount if the L's continue to mount.
  6. a third rounder, how generous of you. Johansen has way way way way way way way way more value than Kane and Postma isn't enough to bridge that gap. okay, I'd throw in Pardy too.... Seriously, upgrade to a 2nd rounder and make the deal although he is out 4-6 months now with shoulder surgery so this will be done in the off season where the Jets get more back for him. I am guessing it will happen before the draft or on draft day. upgrade it to the Jets first rounder and the Blue Jackets might not immediately hang up the phone but I think you are really over estimating how much value a known problem child in Kane is going to have, especially when you consider that Johansen has done nothing but up his value in recent years. Being a guy who can play top line centre he automatically holds more value than a winger, never mind that he's gotten better and better where as Kane hasn't and is a massive gamble because of his attitude. Pardy and Postma are throw ins that every team has. You are going to be disappointed in the return Kane gets I guarantee it. Teams will want him, but they'll want him at a discount price. If that's true and if I'm Chevy, I'm not letting him go at a discount price. He's under contract. If he demands a trade, we would still be in the drivers seat. The big however is if the Jets continue to falter as they are and with Kane now out of the lineup for possibly an extended period of time (injury), management may feel pressured to figure out how to replace him (i.e., seeing if there are any takers). Selfishly, my hope is the Jets start to get back into the W column consistently, taking some of the immediacy away from dealing with the Kane situation.
  7. $5M just doesn't buy what it used to. What I've noticed overtime with Evander Kane is he loves the spotlight. He tends to elevate his game when he plays higher profile teams like the Rangers, Kings, Blackhawks etc. If we were ever to trade him, my guess is he would love to play for a higher profile team that may benefit us in what we get in return.
  8. Check and Check.
  9. Ask the Sabres . . .
  10. I love Paul Maurice's line to Scott Oake's question of what was said in the dressing room between periods: 'Not for public consumption' I also liked his back body checks into the glass while chirping to his team. He's a gamer, I love the way he mix's calm with emotion. Hoping this is just a blip on our way to the playoffs.
  11. I hear what you and some others are saying about potential trades and agree overall. But I do think a GM is no different than a coach, is no different than a player in how he approaches the game. Is our GM 'playing' not to lose or is he 'playing' to win. I'll take a latter for our GM when it comes to how he considers making this team stronger.
  12. He must get a lot of footballs thrown into his head.
  13. My guess it will take a lot for Maurice to shy away from his hybrid rotational approach which in the end may be a good thing.
  14. The thing is Pav gives up big rebounds and is flying around the net which at times gives the illusion of him making big saves. Hutch isn't flashy but because of his style he limits the amount of scoring opportunities. If Pav has better puck control and didn't flop around so much he would then have much less crazy diving saves / bad out of place goals on him. Last night the Jets clearly would of won with either guy but it was a very solid outing by Hutch. From an viewer point of view, sure does seem that way at times. Wonder what the goalie coach would say. i.e., how positional sound is he that maybe the untrained eye can't see . . .
  15. What would be neat if at a next Leafs game, the majority of spectators armed with their leafs Jerseys, threw them on the ice in unison. A whole lot of banning would have to take place
  16. Sure its a hockey play, but it is an illegal one. It is called cross checking. And he did it to Perreault at the end of a play where it wouldn't normally be expected. Unfortunate for Carcillo, but they suspend based on the result and reputation. He has a bad reputation and the result was he took Perreault out for at least that game. If by hockey play, he means thuggery, then yes it was a hockey play.
  17. I wonder if the Bombers will be in the SJ Green sweepstakes comes Feb.... or the Dressler swwepstakes. Treat free agency like the way some organizations treat the draft. Try to acquire the best player available and then decide what to do with that person (keep or trade away).
  18. Oh come on now. A lot of people here have suggested he needs more high performance consistency in his play to be considered an NHL elite goaltender. Great game for him, lets hope he continues to help us down the stretch.
  19. To make the playoffs, down the stretch we'll probably need to hear this more often about our goalies . . .
  20. It's good we created some space between them but there's still lots of hockey to play.
  21. Funny that it is shaping up to be his worst season by far but his first playoff appearance IIRC. Not that I'm defending him by any stretch but he has historically demonstrated good leadership skills within the Locke room and how he represents the team which may be supporting Nashville's success right now.
  22. Behind closed doors, I'm curious to know where Pavelec's headspace is with this hybrid rotation approach Maurice has taken. I'm not sure what he has said to the media, but how does this approach really sit with him. I'm positive he hates it. He is a 60+ game guy for the last what, 3 years? Not including the lockout of course. And it shows in his play. He has always done better in long stretches of uninterrupted work... the rotation hasn't been great to him. Let's say, for argument sake, that is indeed the case. So, a) has his hate translated into affecting his play outside of not getting the minutes? and does this hate reflect on what kind of team player he is controlling for the competitive nature most elite athletes have. When Claude Noel was fired and the Jets went on a winning streak with Maurice at the Helm, I remember Pavelec commenting that Maurice was good at letting them know how good they were (implying Noel didn't). Where is his thought process now with Maurice who has moved to a hybrid rotational basis?

  24. I'm curious to know why? Just because we're the most penalized team in the league to date doesn't mean we then need to be more scrutinized in our play than other teams. IMO each game played should be reffed on a clean slate should it not? I do know they're human beings but the more professional they are the better they can control their biases in how they call the game. I'm assuming the refs are taking this approach, i.e., doesn't matter who the teams are, they will be assessed equally. Any refs out there to help me out in testing my assumption. If it is indeed the case that we are being watched more closely/given less benefit of the doubt than our opponent (which is very hard to prove), then it becomes an issue a lack of objectivity of the part of the referees, no?
  25. It was a good night, three for three. My 10 year old son won his in-door soccer game 6-2. My brother's men's volleyball team beat the u of a baby bears whatever their called 3-1 AND the Jets finished the evening with a win :-) I caught the end of the second and third period. It's amazing how the entertainment of the game changes for the better when the refs let the players play and call actual infractions (like the one they had to call on Ladd with 30 seconds left, had to call it). Kane is a beast when he wants to be, yeeesh some of those hits were hellish. Please don't allow Hutch to handle the puck, ever. I've never been an Enstrom fan but I'm coming around, he has amazing stick and positional presence in the corners that most times sees him winning battles despite his size Buff plays aggressive but absolutely does not want to fight. He made no eye contact with the LA player who lost his mind after Buff ragged doll him. I'd back up the Brinks truck to re-sign him Peluso is a guy I'm getting more and more impressed with. He's starting to show more offensive presence. I like how we took it to LA in overtime. That's coaching. The commentators mentioned how Sutter always has his players backs. From what I've seen, heard and read, so does Maurice. Regardless of how this season turns out for our Jets, we seem to be a team that others have to contend with, and as a fan, I think that's a reasonable expectation. Oh, and a huge congrats to Teemu Selanne, a true Jet.
