I'm thinking for this specific position where a goalie's skate blade comes off during play is different (safety issues etc) than the scenarios you present but hey I could be wrong and maybe it is tough luck. Regardless I have Pionk in my hockey pool, it helped the Jets win so it all worked out but I'm a curious guy by nature.

On the one hand professional football is a very short career and a player needs to secure the best compensation possible. On the other hand there's still something to be said to playing for one team, carving out a nice career where you are well compensated and building something in the community setting yourself up nicely for a career after your playing days in or outside of professional football.
