12 member coaching staff. That might be biggest in the CFL. I believe the Bombers had 9 last year.

Drew Willy one of fastest passes at NFL combine
gbill2004 replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I disagree that speed is not important. We often talk about QBs having 'zip' on the ball. It helps to prevent interceptions if you have some speed and accuracy, which it looks like Willy has. Hall is accurate but has no speed on his throws beyond 10-12 yards. Having speed on your throws doesn't make someone a good QB, but if can help. -
@Darren_Cameron: #Bombers have added import defensive back Maurice Leggett and import defensive end Stafford Gatling. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announce today the club has added import defensive back Maurice Leggett and import defensive end Stafford Gatling. Leggett (5-11, 188, Valdosta State, October 2, 1986 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania) has spent the past two seasons in the Arena Football League with Utah and Philadelphia. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by Kansas City in 2008, and won the Mack Lee Hill Award as the team's top rookie, after starting eight games on defense in his first year. Leggett returned his only interception 27 yards for a touchdown and also scored on a 67-yard fumble return that season. The next season saw Leggett play in ten games for the Chiefs, finishing with 15 tackles (14 solo) and five pass breakups, before being injured for the remainder of the season. He returned in 2010 but was also placed on the injured reserve after being injured in the first week of the season. He then attended Detroit Lions training camp in 2011. Gatling (6-4, 249, Ohio, November 30, 1985 in Burlington, North Carolina) played college football at Ohio, where he was a team captain in 2010. He spent four seasons at Ohio before being signed by the New York Jets in 2011.

I may have posted a scouting report that said that. What I mean is that Brohm's size would suggest his body can take a bit of a beating. Also heard his "injury" last year with Hamilton wasn't really an injury, but way to hide him on the 9 game IR to keep him on the roster. -
Buck Pierce set to announce retirement today

I recall that when Buck was injured last season and he joined Crowton in the booth, the offense started to improve. I think Buck could add value as a QB/Offensive assistant this season. -
Bombers trade for QB Brian Brohm; cut Justin Goltz
gbill2004 replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Seems to me that McManus puts more emphasis on QBs who are accurate, bigger guys who can take a punishment, smart QBs who can read a defense, with a little escapability. Where Mack put more of an emphasis it seems on mobility and less so on accurancy and smarts. -

Another scouting report on Brohm: 1. Brian Brohm > Louisville 6-4 | 226 | 4.95 Final Grade: 8.4 COMP YDS TD INT YD/COMP 2004 67.4% 819 6 2 8.36 2005 68.8% 2883 19 5 9.58 2006 63.6% 3049 16 5 9.74 2007 65.1% 4024 30 12 8.51 NFL comparison: Peyton Manning, Colts Arm strength: Makes all the throws with zip and accuracy, but lacks a true rocket arm. His footwork, delivery and release are efficient, making his arm look stronger than it really is. Cannot make great downfield throws when unable to stride into them. Grade: 8.5 Accuracy/delivery: Has a compact and efficient release and consistently gets rid of the ball quickly. Sometimes gets deliberate when throwing, leading to defenders closing in and breaking up passes. Is accurate on throws all over the field. Grade: 8.5 Field vision: Has great field vision, identifying coverages and making correct decisions. Doesn't get fooled by defensive schemes and switches, getting the ball to the right man. Grade: 8.5 Running ability: Shows great, quick footwork to slide and move well in the pocket to avoid pressure. Lacks the ability to tuck the ball and run to make big plays. Grade: 6.5 Intangibles: Comes from a football family; his father and two older brothers are coaches. Clearly has the work ethic, intelligence and feel that is rare for a college quarterback. Grade: 8.0 Bottom line: Considering that Brohm is the son of a coach and his brothers coached him at Louisville, it is no surprise that he has great footwork and technique. He typically makes great decisions, although Brohm forced throws as a senior while trying to carry the offense. In addition to his strong, accurate arm, he has both the mental and athletic acumen to become a terrific starting quarterback early in his NFL career. -

BC signed him. -
CJOB Sports has learned CFL quarterback Buck Pierce will announce his retirement today. The 32-year old Pierce completed his 9th CFL season as a member of the B.C. Lions after being traded by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Pierce has another year left on his playing contract, but has decided to retire while he is still healthy. Pierce says he is exploring options that will allow him to stay in football. One of those options could be a spot on the Blue Bombers coaching staff. Pierce started his career in B.C. in 2005. He joined the Blue Bombers in 2010.

Bombers trade for QB Brian Brohm; cut Justin Goltz
gbill2004 replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
From Penton on how the conditional draft pick likely works: On Monday the Bombers acquired Brohm, 28, from the Tiger-Cats for a conditional 2015 draft pick. It’s a fourth-round selection that will improve to a third or second based on how much Brohm plays for the Bombers in 2014. It’s normal for those stipulations to be activated through six, nine or 12 starts. -

Typically a #2 CFL QB will make a minimum of $100k plus incentives for games started. My guess is Goltz was on the lower end compared to other CFL #2 QBs. -

Exactly. I don't understand the question. All teams have position specific coaches. It's like asking what Mike O'Shea does because he has an OC, DC and ST coordinator.
