Too bad. I was hoping he'd return.

That's because he signed with Saskatchewan.

Simpson has chronic foot problems, plus he gave up on the team last season. I doubt we ever see him back.

Penton: Burris likely headed to Winnipeg?
gbill2004 replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Change the title to whatever you like, but I think it's accurate based on Penton's article. -
From today's Winnipeg Sun: It was a year ago this week that the Edmonton Eskimos traded for Mike Reilly to get exclusive negotiating rights with the quarterback two weeks before he was set to become a free agent. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers might want to do the same with Zach Collaros if they really desire his services, because there are rumblings in the CFL right now that the Hamilton Tiger-Cats could be a destination for the Toronto Argonauts backup. The Bombers are the only team without a bona fide No. 1 quarterback right now, so the thinking is Collaros, who sources say is looking at Gil Scott or Dan Vertlieb to represent him in his upcoming negotiations, will head to Winnipeg on Feb. 15. Not so fast, as it appears the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will figure significantly into what happens with Winnipeg's quarterback situation -- for two reasons. First of all, there are more than a few people throughout the CFL who think veteran Henry Burris will end up signing in Winnipeg when he becomes a free agent on Feb. 15. "Three people told me today they think Burris will end up in Winnipeg over the Ticats," a CFL source told the Sun. Burris wouldn't exactly be a long-term answer for the Blue and Gold, as he will turn 39 years old during the first week of training camp, but he would give the reeling franchise an instant upgrade and be an excellent mentor for the team's young pivots. The second factor in all of this is the Ticats are apparently very interested in bringing Collaros to Steeltown. They have not made any offers to Burris, and a source said the Ticats are hoping Collaros hears about their interest through the league grapevine. The Tabbies also have Dan LeFevour and Jeremiah Masoli in the fold, so Collaros could conceivably have a shot at the No. 1 gig there with Burris out of the picture. Sources say the Bombers aren't convinced Collaros is a sure-fire No. 1 gun given his limited starting experience and wouldn't mind having a more experienced pivot on the roster to go along with him. The way it's looking now, they might end up getting the experienced quarterback instead of Collaros.

Guys I'd prefer not seeing back: Jovon Johnson, Kenny Mainor, Andre Douglas, Chad Simpson, Chris Cvetkovic, Bo Smith, Jason Boltus, Cauchy Muamba. I've heard conflicting info on Sims-Walker and his knee. I sure hope to see him back; he was a monster in the one game he started at WR.

Markett is going into his option year so he's under contract for the 2014 season. Markett is 5'9", two inches taller than Suber.

If Tsoumpas or Bourke make it to free agency...
gbill2004 replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Ya sure, or just simple annual average salary. -
Washington is not a pending free agent.
-
How much will it take to get them in Blue & Gold...$200k per season? More? Or would they only be using us as leverage to drive up their price? I could see a situation where Tsoumpas signs in Edmonton and we end up with Scott Mitchell.

I'll take a 5'2 guy who can cover over a 6'5 guy who can't. Doesn't really matter how tall a guy is if he can play the position and get leverage on people. Suber is a great example of this as he took a guy like Richardson in his prime completely out of the game by destroying him at the line by getting leverage on him and not letting him run any of the timing routes that Trestman relied on. Suber just really sucks at tracking the ball when he's not defending close to the line of scrimmage and making a play on it, it's not like he's getting physically manhandled. Interesting study I just read on the impact of height in basketball. Something like 75% of 7+ footers in the NBA are rated as below average defenders and rebounders, which is essentially why the 7 foot tall basketball player exists, especially defense because they are supposed to take away shots near the basket. You can't attribute ability to size. Ideally you'd have physical monsters at every spot on the field, but there just isn't an endless supply of guys who are 6 feet and up with the necessary skills to play corner and halfback in pro football, and often the ones that do make it are guys like Lenny Walls who was 6'4 200 lbs and would lose leverage to 5'10 receivers at the same weight. I appreciate your analysis, but I saw with my own eyes last season, QBs would target whoever Suber was playing D on in the end zone, and recall thinking that if we had a DB on the WR who was a few inches taller, the TD would have been knocked down. Stats can make a case for anything. My own eyes tell me Suber is too short. I do love his talent, character and effort though.

The canopy caused huge delays everywhere at IGF. Can't compare the two stadiums timelines.
-
Looking at these pics again, I'd be confident they will be able to play a game there in July. Might not be 100% complete, but the first grandstand pic doesn't look THAT far off from being completed.
-
I like Suber, but I can't seem to get the images out of my head of him playing man-on-man D against 6'2" WRs and getting burned for TD's, because he's just too short. One of my biggest complaints last season about the Bombers was that our DBs are just too short.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Willy is fairly mobile himself. Maybe not to the extent of Collaros, but he is mobile.
-
Remember the biggest delay at IGF was the canopy. Tim Hortons Field doesn't have to worry about that.
-
If money were no issue, where would you prefer to sit for Bomber games at IGF (not including the private suites)?
-
Please explain how I contradicted myself.
-
Where does Collaros rank on this list?
-
Willy looks like a slightly more mobile version of Ricky Ray.
-
I was at the game as well but wasn't paying close attention to Willy. Based on the highlites he looks good. I will never forget that decision by Burke. Worst decision ever.

How do you know not all teams tamper? You are assuming that everyone who tampers gets caught, which simply isn't the case. Alright, I'll turn this around & ask you.... How do you know all teams DO tamper?I don't. I assume they all do. If the fine is only $5000, you'd be stupid not to tamper, at least with key FAs you are targeting.Milt Stegall was rumored to be the Bombers "liaison" with free agents, to encourage them to sign with the Bombers once they became a free agent. Okay, but there you go again... Stegall was "rumoured"not proven to be a liason. As with Stegall, you can't say definetly that teams tamper, then don't say they do like the Unknown Poster did as it can't be proven. Truth is, you may be right, I may be wrong or vice versa, I may be right & you wrong. All I know is that if we tamper & sign Collaros & then we lose Muamba to a CFL team in the same way, then we have no right to ***** & complain. And the CFL is nothing but a joke & total **** up as a business. I'm not trying to give you a hard time but you have to back up statements like "Everybody tampers" or "Milt Stegal was rumoured". I can make a statement like Joe Mack was rumoured to waiting with a Half mill a year contract to sign Mike Reilly had he become a free agent. When in reality, I just made that **** up. I'm still waiting for your published report from a credible source stating that some teams tamper and some don't
-
Truth is tampering does occur and for the most part we never hear about it.
-
Yep, he's got moxie, the 'it' factor.
