If they're starting an extra Canadian OL, they'll need depth.

Madani says he's hearing whispers of John Huffnagel to the Riders as coach and GM. -
I think they'd keep Hurl around for the rest of the season if we get Muamba.

This trade also clears about $50k in salary this season. Could that money be used for...Henoc??

And another: Bio: Full-time starter the past two seasons after playing six games with the first team as a sophomore. All-Conference selection as a senior. Positive: Former college tight end who has shown a lot of potential the past two seasons at offensive tackle. Bends his knees, blocks with leverage, and keeps his feet moving throughout the action. Fluid sliding out laterally in pass protection, uses his frame to seal defenders from the action or knocks them from their angle of attack with good hand punch. Easily adjusts to pick up stunts or twists, moves well on his feet and effective blocking in motion. Negative: Shows minimal power and must improve his overall body strength. Must develop more of a nasty streak in his blocking. He has been a bit inconsistent the past year. Analysis: Since moving to offensive tackle, Capers has slowly developed into a legitimate prospect at the position. He offers a good degree of upside potential and can be used at multiple positions on the offense of line. Capers will improve once he experiences an NFL training program and may be a season or two away.

Another from 2010: Strengths: Prototypical build and athleticism for a left tackle. Has the quick feet necessary to compete with even the elite speed rushers at the next level. A converted tight end. Weaknesses: Extremely inconsistent. still learning the position. Run blocking in marginal; doesn't have the brute strength to knock guys backwards and create running lanes. Comments: Capers is a prime candidate to come off the board far too early. Teams are always looking for potential left tackles and when a player shows the raw physical skills necessary to play the position, they come off the board too soon (see: Duane Brown, Tony Ugoh, etc). If Capers is still on the board by the 4th round (which he won't be) then he would be a nice developmental selection. He does show potential, but he isn't ready for the NFL game just yet.

Capers scouting report from 2010: Selvish Capers started his collegiate career at West Virginia as a tight end. He played there as a redshirt freshman in 2006 in a limited capacity. During the off-season (heading into the 2007 campaign), Capers was moved to the offensive line. Capers started that season as a back up, but by the middle of the season he secured the starting position at right tackle and has been there ever since. Capers has helped pave the way for some great rushing offenses. In 2006, the Mountaineers ranked third in the nation in rushing offense. In 2008 the team ranked 15th in the nation. Capers deserves a lot of credit for those impressive numbers. Capers has a little room to put on more weight and at this point he is better suited as a right tackle rather than a left tackle; that will move him down most draft boards. Capers is certainly a capable player who has great footwork, yet his best asset is his ability to stay healthy. Capers has been a starter since the 2007 season and has not missed a game since. Capers is not one of the top linemen in this class, but he could develop into a quality NFL player sooner or later, and that should make him worth a mid or late round selection. 1/24 Update: Capers finished the 2009 season relatively strong and that has led to some NFL scouts taking notice. Capers is still not one of the best offensive tackles around, but he has been invited to the NFL Combine and he can certainly work his way up into the second round with a good showing in Indianapolis. Mostly he needs to show the NFL that he can be a consistent pass blocker since he played college ball on a team that loved to run the ball. 4/10 Update: Unfortunately for Capers, he has not proven to be a consistent pass blocker. There is no doubt he has quick feet and a surprising amount of athleticism for a player his size, but offensive tackles have to block. A zone blocking scheme will cover up some of his short comings, but he is probably a couple years away from seriously contributing to an NFL team. However, he does have a high ceiling and somebody should be willing to take a chance on him around the fourth round.

^ said it. this is a massive steal. Id be thrilled if we had gotten either the pick or capers. I would have traded Greaves straight up for the pick, but not just for Capers.

@garylawless: O'Donnell's deal with the Esks was monstrous. Like him. Makes him one of the top paid OL in #cfl @CFL_News: Was to be expected. But if so, that puts him in around $250K territory. #CFL #Bombers

Wouldn't it be the 9th overall pick? Our 1st rounder is forfeited, not traded. Or are you assuming they end up with more wins then us? Yes would be 9th overall. Forgot about Waggoner when I posted that. Very nice trade by Walters.
-
My guess is Neufeld with Capers at RT.
-
Anyone know if Capers is any good and what his contract term is?
-
Wow...The Riders second rounder will likely be the 10th overall pick...almost like a first round pick.

WINNIPEG, MB., September 9, 2015 – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announce today the club has acquired Edmonton’s best second round selection in 2016, and International offensive lineman Selvish Capers in exchange for National offensive lineman Chris Greaves. Edmonton holds two selections in the second round of the 2016 CFL Draft – their own and Saskatchewan’s – and the club has acquired the higher of those two picks. Capers (6-5, 308, West Virginia, November 15, 1986, in New Orleans, LA) has spent the past two seasons with Edmonton. He started nine games in 2014,, playing seven at tackle and two at guard. “With the depth we feel we have accumulated at this spot, we felt strongly about acquiring a pick in the second round of next year’s draft, as well as a lineman with some experience in this league,” said Blue Bombers General Manager Kyle Walters. “Chris has been a very valuable member of our organization for six seasons now, both on and off the field, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers sincerely thank him for everything he has done for this team, and our community.”

Richard Harris was quite likely the best coach this team has had since Dave Ritchie so I don't know what the point is. My point simply was that Brown was a guy who I think struggled to self motivate and he needed some kind of outside motivation whether it was the disrespect Ritchie hyped up in 2001 or whatever it was. Browns big flaw is assuming every player should be like him and need that outside motivation rather than having it come from somewhere else. And one of O'Shea's major flaws is assuming that all players are self-motivated and self-disciplined, just like he was.

Mike Willie's scouting report form college: Bio: Junior college transfer who's started the past two years, posting 36 receptions/455 yards/3 TDs as a senior and 36/442/6 as a junior. Positive: Athletic receiver with nice size and upside. Makes difficult catches in traffic, lays out for the errant throw and makes some incredibly athletic grabs. Displays good eye/hand coordination, flashes big-time skill and makes the tough catch downfield. Plays faster than his 40 time and outruns opponents down the sideline. Effective when he extends to make the reception away from his frame. Quickly transitions from making the catch to running after the reception. Negative: Loses focus on occasion and drops some catchable throws. Must be more aware of ball security. Lacks great deep burst and the ability to get separation down the field. Analysis: Willie is physically gifted and has shown flashes of ability, though has never truly elevated his game. He's a terrific developmental prospect who could eventually grow into a fourth receiver if properly coached.
-
Agreed. Willie looked great. He showed some flashes of having some big play abilities.
-
@BobIrvingCJOB: Another blow for bombers. Chris randle, one of their top defensive players, done for the season with knee injury.
-
I'd love to know what kind of discussions took place that lead up to this firing. Did O'Shea initiate this himself? Was he pressured by Walters/Miller?
-
Do you really think MOS is going to say at his presser, "Yes, if we don't win this week and the offense still sucks, I'm firing Marcel"?
-
Agreed. You can't just do the math and say the punt return added 7 points to the final score of the games we lost. Those return TD's were momentum killers that changed the entire game.
-
I'd pay to see Bob Irving lose his temper on O'Shea after a loss.
-
Interesting...Leggett is in at SAM and Shell in a safety.
-
If think Shell will now play Randle's spot.
