Around the League: 2019 Off Season

I didn't think ringette was a contact sport? In hockey up to age 13 body contact is not permitted but still plenty of opportunities for concussions from players losing their balance and crashing into the boards or goal posts, I imagine it's much the same for ringette. Anecdotally I was speaking with a coach in his early 40's at a hockey camp this past weekend that played up to semi-pro in Europe, he said he suffered 7-8 concussions that he could count, with the end result being he has absolutely no recall of childhood memories before the age of 14. Other than that blank space he claims to be symptom free. -

Speaking of sour grapes haven't heard much from LaPo this past off-season, I wonder if he is, or ever was that upset about being denied the opportunity to apply for the Rider job. Caught a glimpse of Richie Hall at the CFL Combine but did not notice LaPo in attendance, which is a bit odd considering how involved he was running the event when the Combine was in Wpg.. I would think his attendance would be mandatory. -
They gonna give Raybould and Philpott the old left boot, maybe they can catch on with the NDP but I doubt it, they're toxic waste. Bye-bye. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/liberal-caucus-wilson-raybould-philpott-1.5079404

Somewhat surprised no other teams have given him a look, but who knows maybe Coates has moved on from football.

Yes, but he has a support group of rich white men that enable him to be heard, otherwise he's just a crazy old man with no manners ranting away.

Surprise, surprise.....well not really. Anyone thinking Trump would face major repercussions from the Mueller report hasn't been paying enough attention to past U.S. history, anything and everything will be minimized to the point of appeasement in order to save face. I have no doubt Mueller produced a truthful document but there was no way in hell they were ever going to expose the raw truth contained to the outside world without first running it through a strong filter. The rot of corruption is throughout their government institution, as with the Brett Kavanaugh hearing, upon close inspection even their examination process is ruled by blatant partisanship and infected with rot. Democrats or Republicans doesn't matter, it's the system of checks and balances that is broken and in need of repair.

No, I don't think so, they cut him as soon as he was healthy. Woli. took his job.

Interesting that the NFL is offering this match-up to only the strongest CFL markets, I don't think that's by coincidence. At one time the NFL acted as a benevolent big brother to the CFL allowing it to prosper and helping it out however it could, now they couldn't give a **** whether it survives or fails, quite happy to shove a vacuum hose up their asses to collect a few more loose coins. -
Very impressed with Lenius-Dickey, this guy looks like a game-changer, if you don't have a spot for a is 6'-5" 243 lbs receiver who runs a 4.75/40 has good hands and ball sense, you make room for him. I'd be surprised if he didn't take a shot at T.E. in the NFL.

I see Johnny is still riding hard on the laurels of his college days, that was 6 years ago Johnny, if you want to be a professional you have to put in the work. -

Decent proposal by Naylor, allows the global players to vie for the seven ratio spots reserved for Natls., gives them the opportunity to compete but does not guarantee them a spot on the roster. I like that strategy as it doesn't have an immediate impact on the game. -
There it is again, the unfiltered ranting of an ass-hole. Good God almighty America, what have you done......if he was my father, I'd shoot him.

You're winning me over Floyd. It looks like the strategic leak regarding the change in ratio is more about making room for Randy's "global plan" than it is about the quantity and quality of CDN. talent. -

Not news but I don't know where else to post this. Quite by accident I stumbled upon a movie on You Tube recently entitled "Barbarians at the Gate" and was surprised to find out it's about former Winnipeger and U of M grad. F. Ross Johnson, a name I've never even heard before. Johnson was C.E.O. of RJR Nabisco (tobacco and food) in the early 80's and tried to pull off a leveraged buyout of the company which is the basis of the movie. For anyone wanting to watch, this movie is easily located on You Tube by searching "Barbarians at the Gate", fairly cheesy for a 1993 film but it stars James Garner as Johnson, so not all bad. Here is his obit. from the NY Times, sounds like he was a real character and a bit of a shyster as well, maybe that's why he's not celebrated as a local hero. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/31/business/f-ross-johnson-dead-rjr-nabisco.html Anybody heard of him or aware he was originally from Winnipeg?

As a cost savings measure this strategy is going to register as a huge fail on Boeing's behalf, I expect their stock to tumble as more companies and countries reject the MAX 8. Changing the flight characteristics of the original design and trying to compensate with gadgetry is a big no-no, I see the MAX 8 project as dead in the water.

Doesn't bode well for "pilot-less" commercial flight anytime soon, flight has too many variables to manage and thousands of things that can go wrong and do. The more complicated they make these airplanes the less chance a human has of correcting malfunctions while in panic mode. It sounds like this system should have been integrated into "auto-pilot" with one big red button to turn it off or turn it on. K.I.S.S. principle.

Here's what Wikipedia says about the Heartland Institute. The Heartland Institute is an American conservative and libertarian public policy think tank founded in 1984 and based in Arlington Heights, Illinois, in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. The Institute conducts work on issues including education reform, government spending, taxation, healthcare, education, tobacco policy, global warming, hydraulic fracturing, information technology, and free-market environmentalism. In the 1990s, the Heartland Institute worked with the tobacco company Philip Morris to attempt to discredit the health risks of secondhand smoke and to lobby against smoking bans.[3][4]:233–34[5] In the decade after 2000, the Heartland Institute became a leading financial supporter of climate change denial.[6][7] It rejects the scientific consensus on global warming,[8]and says that policies to fight it would be damaging to the economy. The Heartland Institute received $675,500 from Exxon Mobil between 1998-2014, they are just one of approx. 5,000 individuals and organizations that sponsored their "research", since 2014 they no longer disclose funding sources. If you pay them enough money they'll say whatever you want. Can you connect the dots? Here's a fun little chart.
