  1. I think the main goal is to expand media rights, attendance at games has stagnated.
  2. https://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/.../CFL-ESPN.aspx Startup football properties, like Charlie Ebersols AAF and Vince McMahons XFL, have been getting plenty of ink these days as they prepare to launch spring leagues over the next year. In the midst of those well publicized launches, the 60-year-old Canadian Football League also has been making moves to grow and modernize. The league, known for only having three downs and much wider fields than the NFL, will announce a multiyear renewal of its media rights deal in the U.S. with ESPN this week. Im always mindful of whats going on in the world around me, CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie said of the spring football upstarts. But its more important to us that we execute our plan. Financial terms for the multiyear deal were not disclosed though Ambrosie said the new deal represented an improvement in economics for us reflective of last seasons ratings. ESPN2 coverage of CFL games averaged 163,000 viewers last season, a 19 percent increase from the previous year. The new deal calls for at least 20 games per season on one of ESPNs linear television networks, usually ESPN or ESPN2. That includes at least one division final and the Grey Cup championship game. It will place at least 65 CFL games on the direct-to-consumer service, ESPN+. The CFL says every game will be available. I feel like we have the right partnership with ESPN, Ambrosie said. We have big, bold, new plans to expand our league and grow our business. This is part of what Ambrosie has referred to as CFL 2.0, which means expanding globally. This week, the CFL is holding its first scouting combine in Mexico City. It is looking into partnering with American football leagues in other countries and scouting players outside of the U.S. and Canada. The multiyear deal with ESPN gives the CFL a consistent outlet in the United States. ESPN has carried CFL games since 2014. Prior to that, the league bounced around from NFL Network to NBC Sports Network. Ambrosie led the negotiations for the CFL. Linear programming executive Gregg Morriss and direct-to-consumer programming executive John Lasker led negotiations for ESPN. The CFL season runs from June through November
  3. Streveler "might" be the QB of the future but the future for Walters and O'shea is very immediate, they can't worry about who is QBing the team 3 or 4 years from now as they may no longer be in charge. They want to win the G.C. now and like politicians their definition of the future is whittled down to the short-term, limited to this coming year and the next. Will they risk their future by choosing Streveler's potential over Nichols competence? I don't think so. If you watch a good quantity of Streveler's college game film it occurs that the play style he exhibited this past season with the Bombers is largely the same he relied on in College, aprox. 50% of plays are broken and he's ad-libbing big time. Sandlot football doesn't work consistently against a pro level D. and no O.C. in his right mind is going to accept a QB not following his playbook to that extent, especially if the team ends up losing more games than they win. I believe this is the reason the NFL ignored his accomplishments, Streveler has all the raw skills necessary to be a very good CFL QB but at this point he is an unpolished stone and needs to structure his game, tame the beast and settle down. Much like Reilly, in his early years he relied heavily on his ability to ad-lib and scramble, unfortunately the Esks. results were below .500 during this time period. Once he settled down and focused his abilities on a fixed game-plan with options he became a much more successful QB. Hopefully Streveler can do the same but like many rookie QB's with great broken play ability that came and went before him, it's not always a given that they will be able to adapt to the limits of the game.
  4. I thought I read Reilly had a number of NFL workouts scheduled???
  5. Well hopefully the following will be enough to dissuade him, who in the hell would want to spend their post-playing career in Regina? "The Riders would try and sway Reilly to end his career in Saskatchewan, pushing the benefits of being the face of the franchise – especially post-playing career when Reilly could earn income in various ways long after the days of stepping on the football field are over. Combined with the benefits of playing in a state of the art facility for a rabid fan base."
  6. Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle, And Hobbes was fond of his dram. And Rene Descartes was a drunken fart. 'I drink, therefore I am.'
  7. Ted Wyman@Ted_Wyman #Bombers have released veteran cornerback Chris Randle, one of their best defensive players for the last few years. Lions coach Devone Claybrooks told me he thinks Randle is the best boundary corner in the #CFL
  8. Chris Randle‏Verified account @ChrisRandle_Ad FollowFollow @ChrisRandle_Ad More Business is business. It’s all love in the end. 7:53 PM - 9 Jan 2019
  9. Is it not likely that players like Singleton or BLM will end up being cut sooner or later and return to the CFL mid-season? I believe Bighill arrived just after T.C. if I'm not mistaken.
  10. That video is brilliant! Anyone know how to copy it?
  11. Wally is gone as well as most of the Lions coaching staff so Bighill's ties to that organization have been greatly diminished.
  12. I was attempting to put it into a time-frame that people can remember and relate to.
  13. Some don't seem to realize he's filling out a H.O.F. career before their very eyes.
  14. I find it hard to believe he's authored close to 20 books, the most foreboding being, "The America We Deserve" written back in 2000.
  15. Think of it in context, which great politician/leader of the last 40 years deserves to be immortalized by a statue??? Probably none, upon examination they all have their faults and an army of detractors that will emphasize them, the mere suggestion of erecting a statue in their memory would be laughed at. As a society we don't do statues anymore, mostly because there is an increased level of scrutiny and whitewashing the reality is more difficult to ignore. The Greeks had it right, immortalize gods and concepts, skip the humans.
  16. I can't be bothered to read any of his wonderful books but I'd bet he laid his strategy out in writing beforehand, just like Hitler did.
  17. "Beautiful Boy" Steve Carell in a dramatic role, kills it.
  18. Such an incestuous bunch, clad themselves in green whenever they leave the confines of their colony so they can self-identify and bond with other unfortunates. It helps keep the gene pool shallow and prevents them from floundering in the scary "outer world". I believe killing them for sport is illegal in most states but lucky for you not in N.M. so feel free to give er a go if another one wanders by....a crowbar works well, they don't even run.
  19. Jones is also making $500,000+ per year wearing multiple hats for the Riders, for a po boy that grew up in the projects of South Pittsburgh TN. he's got to be happier than a pig in grits with his current arrangement and remuneration.
  20. That was Justin Goltz, not Willy.
  21. Riders expected to name former Eskimos player personnel man Paul Jones as assistant GM http://3downnation.com/2018/12/27/riders-expected-to-name-former-eskimos-player-personnel-man-paul-jones-as-assistant-gm/
  22. Just watched "In Bruges" a 2008 film starring Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes, best movie I've seen in a very longtime. If you like black comedy you'll enjoy this one.
  23. Harry Walters and Brian Herosian made for a formidable combo covering the middle back in the mid-70's, seems like they were in on almost every tackle, both dominant players.
  24. Big Tony Gabriel in the middle of the pack.
