  1. What's really funny, is with the GM position open in Mtl. and potentially in T.O., John Murphy's name has not been mentioned once as a candidate. In one year with the Riders he's gone from the next "Hufnagel" to a slack jawed yokel who's talent is best suited to retrieving stray balls that get punted into the stands during practice.
  2. Jones the "recruiting genius" with his head buried deep in the Bombers garbage pail.
  3. They're setting a fast pace to burn through more player next year then they did this year.
  4. Here is who's left sitting on the PR for Sask. to swipe. 82 Duncan, Kieren WR I 5'10 180 23 Colorado State Pueblo 42 Greenwood, Chris DB I 6'1 197 27 Albion College 29 Posey, Julian DB I 6'0 193 28 Ohio 91 Tennant, Brandon DL N 6'2 305 25 Laval 36 Warden, Justin DB N 6'2 200 26 Bishop's
  5. Damn, liked both Mayo and Bennett, hurts to lose these guys to those losers. Have to wonder why the Riders are scooping Mayo when that is probably the strongest position on their roster. Perhaps they're expecting to lose Roosevelt through trade or F.A.
  6. I think a deal will be concluded rapidly with little fanfare or discordance. At this time Nichols and the Bombers are a good fit for each other other and they'll find a way to make it work. Those who think he's not worth retaining have either short term memories or a high tolerance for pain.
  7. Finding a shut-down MLB isn't as easy as it sounds, just look how many candidates the Riders scrolled through before they settled on Henoc. I tend to think it's more "system fault" than personnel at this point. A year of watching Hurl in Hall's D confirms that Bass did much better in that role this year and even having Solly in that position wouldn't change things much unless the scheme is updated to adjust to his talent.
  8. That can happen and sometimes does, otherwise why would anyone watch the game? Got to love the CFL.
  9. Excellent game, Ottawa winning should give the CFL a boost in the East.
  10. From TSN I thought the game was supposed to start at 1:00 EST?
  11. It's no coincidence that with the increased holding allowed by the O-line, QB injuries are down significantly this year from the last two. I believe the league tolerates this compromise in order to keep their star players healthy and in the game.
  12. They're still pissy because they got stuck with an NDP govt. that not a single Albertan will admit voting for.
  13. Orridge is just a mouth piece, he has no control over the words that come out of his mouth.
  14. I see this comment repeatedly and I just don't get it, the officiating is incidental to the game and always has been. Sort of like taxes, we don't like them but they're there at every turn.
  15. CFL Awards Announced, Medlock wins! Stamps do too. Eastern nominees need not attend. Jason Maas, lips are sealed. http://www.cfl.ca/2016/11/24/shaw-cfl-awards-2016/ Most Outstanding Player Bo Levi Mitchell AGF Coach of the Year Dave Dickenson Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Derek Dennis Most Outstanding Defensive Player Solomon Elimimian Most Outstanding Special Teams Player Justin Medlock Most Outstanding Rookie DaVaris Daniels Most Outstanding Canadian Jerome Messam Commissioner’s Award Jason Colero Jake Gaudaur Veterans’ Award Matt Black Tom Pate Memorial Award Marco Iannuzzi Hugh Campbell Distinguished Leadership Award Norman Kwong
  16. Etch is a Don Cherry in waiting, absolutely unfiltered which is somewhat refreshing compared to the mono-speak drone that emanates from the CFL talking heads, coaches and athletes. He may be a half step off crazy but he's funny as hell.
  17. I walked to a game from Transcona once and by the time I got there the game was over, worst of all I found out on the walk back home they moved the stadium to Fort Gary. I can't walk that far! Those people are idiots. I told Bob Irving and he said "ok".
  18. I agree with the chimpanzee, although it's not such a problem in Wpg. the entire league has to stop trying to appeal to the corporate suits and focus on affordable family entertainment to build generational fans, much as the Goldeyes have. Below is an except from an article that discusses the Argo marketing problems, although it's specific to T.O. it also applies to cities like Vancouver and Calgary where the populace is becoming too "big league" to bother following the CFL. http://www.torontosun.com/2016/11/21/can-the-cfl-survive-in-toronto. Wright, who was CFL commissioner from 2002-2006, views the quandary of Argos football as multi-faceted. “I think there are three fundamental reasons why Toronto football is where it is. The brand just doesn’t resonate,” said Wright, a long-time marketer. “The Grey Cup brand doesn’t resonate (in Toronto). The Argos brand. The CFL brand. “One, there is core competition in Toronto that doesn’t exist anywhere else in Canada. There is NHL, NBA, baseball, MLS. It’s an incredibly competitive market. There’s no longer a threat of the NFL and still that hasn’t changed anything. “Two, we’re a snotty sports city. We think of ourselves as a big deal. This isn’t, to use Tim Leiweke’s phrase, a bloody big deal. An Argos game isn’t the place to be. “Three, if you look at what’s happened to the franchise and the marketing of it, previous ownership let it go. They put nothing into sales, nothing into marketing. Look at how little David (Braley) spent to market the brand and the team. He turned off all the taps in Toronto. How do you recover from that?
  19. Money should not be a problem with MLSE now owning the club, rumour has it they have a bag or two.
  20. His schematics would be mind bottling.
  21. TSN should hire Etchevery for "Coach's Playbook" for entertainment value alone.
  22. In the end it's all about entertainment value and the Stamps provide that consistently year after year.
  23. Pretty much the same way the Stamps found him, keep an eye on smaller schools that don't go all in on the pre-programmed NFL model QB that give smaller QB's the chance to play and develop. The CFL has a long history of finding a place for this type of QB from Lancaster on up, while the preprogrammed NFL style QB's like Willy and Brohm can't adapt and flunk out.
  24. Didn't seem like he yelled at them, simply told a camera man to "get out of my way", this was a few seconds before taking the field when he was trying to find space to throw a few quick warmup passes. With the huge zoom lenses they have on these cameras no reason to get up in the players faces or interfere with their movement at all.
  25. If I recall correctly from an article I read, BLM was not getting much interest from the NFL when he was in College due to his height, only 6'-2". His agent, who also represents Nichols convinced him the best route to playing football soon was to go directly to the CFL and forego the NFL tryout circuit, which he did. That's why he's starter at 25, unlike most QB's that come up to the CFL after exhausting opportunities in the NFL for 2-3 years.
