Odds and Sods - Game 6 - Bombers at Edmonton
Fatty Liver replied to do or die's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The performance of the rookies in the secondary last night will create a conundrum when the vets. start returning from the I.R. Right now it would appear that they have 3 if not 4 high quality corners, in Randle, Adams, Frederick and Roberts. A couple of solid HB's in Johnson, Fogg and Posey and a gift to the ratio with Loffler at S. They can't keep everyone but the likelihood of the full secondary being healthy at one time will keep the roster fluid. I see them keeping Fogg at HB and Loffler sharing duties with Macho for the rest of the year, Frederick should be able to fill in on the corner until both Adams and Randle return and then they will have to come up with a solution unless Leggett is injured in the meantime. I realize it was only one game but Frederick looks to be a diamond in the rough so it will take some time to figure out all the options open to him, He may have the potential to play S. and SAM, in addition to corner. Posey and Roberts are probably bound for the PR or Sask. via the scrap heap and unfortunately the likes of Jones and Morgan are doomed to another year backing and playing ST. -
Jace Davis and Sheppard were invisible tonight, I thought they would make more of a contribution especially once Dressler was knocked out. .
-
Big time shake up in the Secondary, some of these new guys could displace some of the incumbents. Shocked with what they achieved, absolutely shocked. Fogg, Frederick and Loffler have all earned starting positions.
-
I'd second this, his timely interception virtually saved the win. In truth the entire secondary deserves a standing ovation,
-
Not only that but if Nichols would have been put in the first Edm. game they probably would have won that one as well.
-
Perhaps, but we don't know if Bond was injured or not. Hopefully when Neufeld comes back he is relegated to backup and they stick with 3 Imports.
-
They could have if some one on the coaching staff would have looked at the roster realistically and predicted the inevitable failure of the Natl. depth on the O-line.
-
His demeanor always reminded me of a mopey teenager. Poor guy has to answer some questions as part of his unearned $400,000 contract, woe is Willy.

The Joke that is the Winnipeg Blue Bomber franchise

Rumour has it that Huf likes his mountain view. In other news the rumour that "Garbage Hill" is to be declared the second highest mountain in Manitoba is a bold faced lie. -
Morgan whiffed on two absolute critical tackles last week and doesn't seem to be much of a play-maker, I wish to see no more of him. Loffler has a great wingspan but he's not what you would call fast. Too bad Sherman is injured right now as it would have been nice to see him get some reps. at safety.
-
Adams should see a fair number of balls as well. He would have had a huge game against CGY if he could have come up with that 4th Q catch in the end-zone, but then that's the rub with him, he doesn't come down with the ball at absolutely critical moments.
-
Corney is the future but I think they'll stick with the rotation scheme throughout the season. Hopefully Cole can show that he was worth the wait.
-
I'm pretty sure that O'Shea said that Adams was not yet ready to play.
-
Hubbard didn't have any sacks last game but he certainly contributed some "hurries", nonetheless Green is on the roster and he's been moved back to the PR. I'm thinking Green probably won't dress and Cole and Corney will be rotating a lot.
-
Hurl is back, is that what you're referring to?
-
Looking forward to seeing what Sheppard can contribute in place of Mayo. Would have been nice to be able to dress Foketi just in case.
-
Thanks, I couldn't figure out how to post the image.
-
Looks like they have sent Hubbard and Mayo back to the PR. http://d3ham790trbkqy.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2016/07/Depth-at-Edmonton-July-28-2016.pdf

I recall TD's and interceptions were often around a 1:1 ratio. When you think of it an interception is one of the most exciting plays in football, no one likes to see them but they definitely add to the entertainment value.
-
I think they will give Willy until the end of the season to jump start his career and if he is unable to do so they will deal with him in the off-season. If you go back and watch the game after Willy was pulled they briefly show Buck meeting with the QB's and receivers on the sidelines. Fair to say from his body language that Willy was not contributing to the discussion at that point.

Yah, no kidding you can pretty much scratch Barker off my wish list.

Timely for the Bombers, Argos are up in 2 weeks. -
Another angle to this is that this is probably Nichols best and possibly his last opportunity to prove he is a starting caliber QB, so he should have all the motivation in the world on his side. He's been playing QB for 20 years and the time to perform is upon him, otherwise he best dedicate a good portion of each day thinking about his life after football. If Nichols can play to the level of Sean Salisbury and magically eek out wins using brain over brawn he may hang in there for a few more years as a serviceable backup QB but otherwise he's on the downhill slide of his football life.

I would suggest there are a few "ingestibles" that make this statement false, starting with spinach.

If they continue to suck eggs past Labour Day both of those possibilities might become reality. I hope we get a real chance to see what Davis and Bennett can do before the end of the season, if the playoffs become a lost hope 2 games each would be a nice evaluation heading into next year.
