  1. Watching the Stamps O-line operate with a group of largely unheralded Natls. is to marvel at whatever secret ingredient they possess that forms such cohesion. They operate almost seamlessly and they are the main reason for years of success CGY. has had running the ball despite their very good RB's. No wonder Messam took a pay cut during F.A. just to stay with the team, despite the majority opinion of him, he is not stupid.
  2. It was all hilariously stupid in the first place, whether Medlock kicks from the 50 or from the 40 makes little difference but when putting on a comedy of errors, the play must end with a hearty laugh.
  3. I don't think it did, the clock was stopped at 12 secs. after the first Harris play, then started again when the ref. blew in the next play but Willy wasted 3-4 secs. before snapping the ball. If Harris would have dropped immediately after the next completion they might have had 2-3 secs. for the FG.
  4. As are most threads in the last two days, this is what happens when bountiful optimism turns to bitter ash.
  5. I think it's too early to blame LaPo in all of this, for the most part the play calling looks good. When Willy executes the plays work well, but too often he gives up on the designed play quickly and either throws a check down to Harris standing 3 yards away or takes off up field in his best impersonation of Justin Goltz.
  6. Ideally yes, but when a DT is giving up 50 or more pounds to an experienced OT bull-rushing is not going to succeed very often.
  7. Will you be moving what's left of the organization to Transcona to participate in the summer league?
  8. Corney plays a bit like John Chick and probably physically closer to a bull-rusher than most DT's in the league. That skill is more useful inside, less so outside.
  9. Hopefully enrolled in Basket Weaving 401 in some fine educational institution out East.
  10. Keeping isn't out for the season.
  11. Yep, times are a changing and with globalization and massive marketing budgets people place less and less emphasis on CDN. culture and institutions. Younger fans migrate to what's biggest and perceived as best and lose perspective on what they have in their own back-yard and why it's important to Natl. and local identity. Grumpy old men are destined to become even grumpier.
  12. Good point, Rory Kohlert has not received a single look in two games, might as well do away with his position and turn it into something useful.
  13. The fans in Wpg. are still pasiionate and fully engaged and that is important, nothing worse than living in a place were the fans are disinterested like T.O., Vancouver or Calgary.
  14. I can see Willy eventually ending up n T.O. as a replacement for Ray but I don't really expect that to happen anytime soon....maybe next off-season. It would be a good fit for Willy as he would get to work under Milanovich who seems to be very good at grooming QB's and working beside Ray wouldn't do him any harm. As for assets coming back to Wpg. from the Argos, no idea really, as they don't seem to have any developing QB's that are attractive at this time, which might spur their interest in Willy. At best Ray has 2 years left, and in that time Willy should be able to pull his act together and become a good starting QB, with better command of the game, I just don't think it's going to happen in Wpg.. The way this season is shaping up the tide is turning on Willy and he is going to endure some painfully embarrassing moments at IGF that may not be forgotten or forgiven as fan patience has expired.
  15. Riders acquire Matt Sewell a Natl. O-lineman from T,O. I wonder if the Bombers were aware this guy was available as this is an area of deep need.
  16. I thought Mitchell Gale looked good early last year when he was competing with Harris for the backup job in T.O. but since that time he has been cut and ended up this season on the Argo's PR. I think he has potential but he won't offer a quick solution in Sask.
  17. When I initially looked at the brutal schedule this year I pretty much expected the Bombers to emerge form the first seven games with a 1-6 record being pitted against the 3 strongest clubs in the CFL two times each. With a huge turn over in personnel it is a bit wishful to think that they are going to find ways to beat teams that they perpetually lose to. The bloody schedule maker needs be investigated for a green family tree IMO. With all the hype of TC, the new talent added to the roster and a new OC I had some hope that this would be the year that they were able to finally slay some of their dragons and steal a few wins emerging with a record of aprox. 3-4. It doesn't look to be in the cards this early in the season so it's time to revert to default plan and hope that they can progressively learn and improve through these early games to emerge as a capable team ala the 2014 Esks., Even if their record ends up being 1-6, if they can perform well over the easier second half of the schedule and eek out a play-off spot my expectations will be on track with what I initially hoped for last Dec.
  18. Could be Davis or Bennett is the next QB in line but the team has to give them playing opportunities to prove what they can do.
  19. Thank God for small mercies.
  20. I think that is Willy's real problem, not being able to process what he sees in front of him fast enough, If you watch Collaros, Reilly or Mitchell when they come up to the line their heads are on swivels as they absorb everything before them. Willy does not look around that much, it seems more like he is trying to remember the set play rather than dealing with the situation on the field. It could go right back to the training he received coming up as many US Colleges use a "plug and play" pocket passer system that is designed to quickly replace the starting QB every 2-3 years. In College ball it is easier to protect a QB with good athletic throwing ability than it is to teach them how to think and learn all the complexities of running an offence. So you get automatons like Rob Johnson playing over QB's like Doug Flutie because they are easier to program and build an offence around.
  21. Kind of reminds me of the scenario when they traded Brock to Hamilton for Clements. Brock was a great QB but he never managed to win anything, whereas Clements was less skilled but a better game manager with a previous GC ring in his pocket. The results were immediate as Clements led the Bombers to their first GC victory since 1962.
  22. Are the Bombers the only team to promote a ST coach to HC? Big fail if they are the only team to do it twice.
  23. If Willy puts on the same show next weekend at home my guess is that IGF is going to turn into a howling mad house before the first half is complete. The reception could scar Willy for life and cause their other 3 QB's to announce their retirement immediately to avoid being thrown to the wolves.
