Save yourself some misery and throw yourself under the bus wheels before it leaves Wpg.

Great trade! Nichols may not be great but he can win ugly games and is good enough to beat Sask. in the Banjo Bowl. Good chance the Bombers can now keep pace for the final playoff spot and rid themselves of Brohm once and for all.

A Comprehensive Review of Kyle Walters
Fatty Liver replied to AKAChip's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
A. Kelly helped us win the First game vs Toronto with 2 TDs I don;t think another Bomber REC had 2 TDs in a game all last year, he also helped us win vs HAM with a critical catch on the winning drive and a very strong game so in our first 3 games he was important in 2 wins, he also has another very good game in another win ( don't remember the details ) A. Kelly also had more TDs than Denmark (4) Moore (0) and Byrant (0) combined with 6 I know that isn't many but it was tops on the team last year. And I am not saying he was great just saying he was better than you are giving him credit for...And I have no problem that he is gone because I realize his problem was a lack of speed and he was too light and got pushed around... Adams is a much better Receiver yes I agree with that but Kelly helped us last year and we miss having a big REC this year. J. Gordon is garbage ( at least so far ) and Veltung is a good returner and fillin but he is not a top REC... So again until you have someone better you shouldn't just cut someone because they dared to speak back to the coaches.... So Walters has failed to find a big target the Bombers said they wanted to find, however I am not sure I trust that Marcel B. would know a good rec vs bad based on his opinion of Brohm being a CFL QB... That was always the thing about Kelly though. He'd make a few big plays but the rest of the time he was invisible. He caught some big passes but the guy did a disappearing act too often. He might have had more touchdowns, but Moore and Denmark rarely go into their complete disappearances. It's not his lack of speed that kept Kelly out, it's his lack of ability to make a consistent impact on a game. A guy who pops up every few games for a big catch or two and then does nothing isn't helping you win games. This has happened to all receivers including Denmark in the last two years. Kohlert is a prime example of being the "invisible man" but you can't blame him, whenever the ball is thrown his way he usually catches it and fights for yards. In all but a few games the ball has not been spread around and not surprisingly when the ball has been well distributed the Bombers have produced their best offencive results. Under MB's schemes talent often remains unexploited or underused to it's full extent and this often makes a particular player look inadequate. Current examples #1 Marshall, #2 Veltung. The fact that some people still question Cotton's talent is surprising as a review of what he can do when given sufficient touches reveals him to be an exceptionally talented RB. MB can never make up his mind to commit to anything quickly or for long enough to eventually reap the rewards, in essence he's no more than a dabbler who could even make Barry Sanders look bad. Quite frankly until MB is washed away the stench of his influence over offencive player selection, talent and performance can't be honestly evaluated imo. -
Serious question, if Brohm does indeed start, realistically, what would he have to do, other than win, to continue on with this team? Other than win? Absolutely nothing.
-
since he's been coach, can you think of one surprise play that has been tried on offence, or defence? Or any other kind of surprise? Brohm might start? Can he hand off the ball? Run it, over and over again. I don't think the Riders can stop the run. Doesn't matter much anyway. Neither team is going anywhere playoffs wise. I was harkening back to the days of old when O'Shea was a spirited young ST coordinator.
-
At this time the Bombers have nothing to lose. I suggest they pull a Mike O'Shea surprise and come out in the LDC with Marve in a wishbone offence with 3 RB's and run the hell out of the Riders for the entire game, at least that would provide some amusement.

So Tyler Thomas is declared a failure after 3 touches? -
You take advantage of that by making throws from the pocket. At times Calgary had two backers spying/coming on delayed blitzes. That means there's a bunch of space in the middle of the field and deep when Calgary was having their safety fill in behind the backers. There were one on ones deep all day, Calgary had no respect for Marve's arm, and he gave them no reason to respect it. Until he can, there's not much you can call to make him look good, maybe some option runs. I may be wrong here, but to me it looked like Marve was told to stay in the pocket, and as a result he held onto the ball too long several times. If you're supposed to stay in the pocket, but get no time to throw or find second and third reads because the Oline is the shi...ts, then it stands to reason you are not going to look good. I couldn't believe the line on several of the plays, they looked awful. Our so called great signing from Calgary is not earning his $$. So who is that on? him alone or the blocking schemes? Probably a bit of both. Seems to me with our Oline, doesn't matter who the QB is...they are all not going to accomplish what they should, which is why we were still last in offence even with Willy healthy. Of course he looks better because he has a lot more experience, but if nothing changes, we will always be last in offence. He couldn't leave the pocket because of how Calgary's defense played him. As soon as he tried he had at least one linebacker running full speed at him from 3 yards depth. Calgary's ends also worked fully from the outside lane in to Marve, no inside pass rush moves, just disciplined and gradual work towards the QB pinning him in the pocket allowing that spying LB to clean up, other than the one time Bryant fell asleep before the snap and the one end ran right around the edge. That's why I spent two months telling you guys that a scrambling QB is the easiest type to defend if they can't do anything from the pocket. It's extremely easy to force a QB to stay in the pocket and very hard to counter that if that QB can't make a throw. Now you're seeing it. We're not last in offense with Willy. We're last in offense with everyone, Willy's only started and finished 4 games. Marve and Brohm have thrown 112 passes now to 156 for Willy. Willy was seriously injured 3 times playing out of that pocket. What future does any QB have standing back there?
-
Question is will they be able to afford Wild on the open market. It may take a little chop chop of vet salaries to make it happen.
-
Comparing Marve to Smith in Sask. their styles are quite similar but Smith is having more success and getting better with every game. The difference is Smith is rolling out on almost every play and using his mobility to his advantage while Marve is being contained in the pocket and only running when he has no options left which causes desperation throws.

Do or Die Detailed Half Time Report...
Fatty Liver replied to do or die's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Maybe Waggoner can throw the ball?Unbelievable. If you hold the first pick you can trade it for assets or make the pick. No offense to Waggoner but we're really handicapped here. We won't be rebuilding our OL with a second round pick.If Waggoner is truly a first round talent, I've got no problem with Walters using it this year in the supplemental draft. So, we grabbed Waggoner & say we finish last or second last. Then have nothing to show for it? We need offensive linemen not linebackers or defensive backs. How does that make us better? It doesn't. Not saying Waggoner isn't a good player but in the big picture with everything we need on offense, I don't believe he was worth a first round pick.I trust Walters assessment on Waggoner. For all we know he could be our starting MLB in a year or two. Or not. What do we need right now? What part of the team has been killing it for years? What do we need the most? A future middle linebacker or an offensive lineman that can block? Unless we are extremely lucky as in fluke we'll never find that player in the second round. I mean, hey... it's taken half a decade to get where we are now with the offensive line, why not stretch it out to a decade? Nothing says you have to use a bunch of Canadians on your offensive line. We're starting 8 Canadians now, there is no reason that we couldn't use 3 americans on the offensive line. I wish they would chose that option. Our other Canadian players can hold down the fort, but they are stuck in the old timey mindset that you just use Canadians on the offensive line and that's that. When Dave Ritchie was here they had no problems using an american on the interior of the offensive line, wish they'd give it a try now because I think it could really help. I think inserting an extra Import on the O-line would have contributed a lot more than replacing JFG with Gordon, who basically added nothing in the last game. -
Hey if you get offended being compared to Nasty Nate don't offend O'Shea comparing him to Burke. He is a way better coach than Burke could ever hope to be. I don't see the evidence that O'Shea is better than Burke. They were both good coordinators with bad head coaching records. Other than style, what's the difference?
-
Last week O'Shea was involved directly in the ST practices and it seemed to reap rewards. This week I hope he sticks his nose deep into the O practices if for no other reason to send a message that he's paying close attention to their preparation and performance.

Week 10 Aug 30 Sask@Ott. (Tor 15 Edm. 38)

Bombers ain't no better. Ow. -
If this is true, why in the hell couldn't the 6-8 highly paid professional "mutton heads" in the war room come to this conclusion in the off-season? The QB lineup they presented at training camp was an absolute sham as they put all of their chips down on the new and improved O-Line being able to protect their golden Willy all the way to the Grey Cup game and left nothing in the basket for "Plan-B" from outer space.
-
I'd take Khari at this point too. I'd like to see Khari as OC as well, but wouldn't talking to him at this time constitute tampering?

Week 10 Aug 30 Sask@Ott. (Tor 15 Edm. 38)

Hopefully Sask. demonstrates this level of ineptitude next week. I keep thinking the Bombers and Riders are twins, they basically have the same problems. -
Do or Die Detailed Half Time Report...

Best summation so far. -
Mark, either you've had a stroke or you're trying to type these messages on a watch. Which is it?

Marve was better last year usuing his natural abilities, this year he's been enrolled in Marcel's QB kindergarten and is failing miserably.

O'Shea is a terrible head coach. The only difference between he & Burke is he doesn't cry. Results exactly the same. They lose & lose & lose. Iso...what hard facts do you have that proves Mike O'Shea a terrible head coach? Sure you can look at the record but i'm not sure that alone is evidence enough. In my opinion Mike O'Shea is at this time an average head coach who could become a good one. But even the best head coaches in this league have had their lows. Other than that you have no real evidence of his ability to coach. Other than your subjective views. Mike O'Shea is a terrible head coach period. The proof is in the record. Not sure why you would think otherwise. And his record IMHO is evidence enough. BRT...that's the easy answer but what other evidence do you have. Come on prove it too me. Has he made in game mistakes? I haven't seen many if any. Roster decisions? Are we really in the know that we can criticize them? Do we watch practise? Do we break down the game film and focus on a particular players execution? Do we have direct access to the medical staff to know who's healthy enough to play and who's not? It's easy for some to dump on O'Shea just due to the record. True, but ultimately "that record" is O'Shea's responsibility, even if blame can be dumped on his coordinators.
-
I think that's a bit of an over-reaction, generally other than a few positions like MLB, backup QB and overall O-Line strength I believe the Bombers have the personnel in place to compete with any team. Moving Bass to MLB and allowing a rotation of Hurl, Sherman and Newman at OLB would show an immediate improvement in the D imo. While the other two areas are more difficult to fix I think adding an extra import on the O-line would be a rational move to make at this point.
-
I don't have the optimism to believe that keeping Willy healthy under Marcel's protection scheme is a sustainable plan for the future. Marve was juking and jiving to avoid being tackled in the "death pocket" and without that mobility he would have been sacked at least 4 more times.

Crompton could probably be traded for.
