Comparing pass defence in CFL to the NFL is apples to oranges because the receivers are already up to full speed when they cross the line of scrimmage. Anyone know In the evolution of the CFL game when did the shot-gun snap became the norm? If the CFL needs to compensate the advantage the O has been given they could eliminate the use of the shot-gun snap.

From the game on the weekend I don't see Coombs measuring up to Durie in terms of being a direct replacement yet. He seems quite slight and hasn't shown the ability to break tackles the way that Durie could. -

Bingo, the last 3 seasons he's been decimated by injury plus he's 34 yrs. old. -

Willy should be scheduled for a regular presser sometime this week, the first question asked is going to be about the injury. Whether he answers it or not remains to be seen. I think it could possibly have been a "dental" injury. I don't think many QB's use protective mouth guards because of all the yelling they have to do. -

The threat of multi-million dollar lawsuits may be the only thing that convinces that group to change their ways. -

You would think that after all the comments and attention that was given to the hit that Willy took, that the refs would be specifically looking for moronic plays like the macho move that Harris put on Harris. Like, right in your face Trevor...BAM 15 harder right there. But no, nobody saw it...lame. I think Macho man was penalized for helmet contact with QB Harris, it was the contact on Whitaker that led to the melee that went un-penalized. Regardless Macho Harris needs to be on the refs. watch list for fines or suspensions for the "in your face" style that he continues to play. -
I prefer O'Sheamus. As in please Mike don't O'Sheamus.

The Lobendahn play literally occurred in a different era, if the league is serious about protecting players (and they now have to be) they can not let this incident slide by unacknowledged. They either have to take some form of token action against the player involved or at least acknowledge publicly that there should have been a penalty called on the Willy hit. To do nothing sends the wrong message. -
My point is you cannot expect that on a regular basis especially with all the penalties being called on passing plays (not necessarily pass interference by the way) which artificially decreases the number of real passing plays in a game. Also, as I stated in my previous quote, you will only see a 50-50 split if the opposing defense and coordinator are incapable or incompetent in stopping the run. This was the case with Saskatchewan last week. So when the Bombers have a 60-40 or 65-35 split in favor of the passing game for the majority of their games this season, don't start crying about them not running enough. A team normally cannot run on first down every time as it's entirely to predictable nor can they run on second and long as it's a low percentage play for a first down. This necessitates a stronger emphasis on the passing game. Add in the fact that we have a QB who is one of the weakest scramblers in the league and you should probably not expect to see more than 20 - 22 runs in a game. It does make a difference if your leading rusher is averaging 7-8 yds. per carry.

Agree 100%, it wouldn't have mattered which Bomber QB played as they would have faced the same pressure and the results would have been much the same. The major breakdown for the O was in the play calling, their inability to pick up the blitz and doing nothing to counter it. As Brohm demonstrated last year he has decent arm strength but he is a pure pocket passer and if he can't plant, he can't throw. Marve would have been more entertaining and better equipped to escape the blitz but they still wouldn't have beat the Ti-Cats.

Congratulations on making comparisons on two completely different situations and trying to equate Cato's success with what Marve would have done. Montreal out-game-planned Calgary and Hamilton out-game-planned us. That's where the comparisons should end. Marve has the arm strength to complete a pass. Brohm doesn't. That's where the conversation should end. I guess you know more than Kyle Walters and Danny McManus about arm strength then. Because when Brohm was signed Walters said: "Danny played a huge role in this. Danny, who was with (Brohm) in training camp last year, could speak to some of the qualities that you couldn't find on the brief film. Danny likes his arm strength, talked about his escapability and things, but more importantly, Danny talked about the type of young man he is and the leadership he has, how he brings up everyone around him... a great person to have in the organization." Maybe that speaks more about Danny than Brohm Can we petition to get Danny Mac fired?

Oh yeah that's right..so he calls running plays and they don't succeed against a hot Hamilton defence...you and most others would be up his ass for calling running plays when they are so far behind. Almost every offensive coordinator calls passing plays to try and get back in the game...that's the only way to try and score quickly! They had 3 Q's to try to catch up or at least keep pace and it was obvious that the pass only approach was not working and rarely does. Time is not their biggest problem if they aren't being productive. I would like to see the Bombers revert to a default strategy when the O is struggling in an attempt to stabilize the situation. This would put less emphasis on the QB's talents and focus on the running game by playing Cotton, Marshall and a FB at the same time pounding the ball down the field. A blitz intensive team like Hamilton could be vulnerable to this attack especially if Cotton can break through the first line into the secondary. Hopefully over time this attack would loosen up the passing lanes so that they could return to a more balanced attack once the reeling stopped. A positive side effect would be giving the D more time off the field to rest and regroup. Yep...that will definitely get a win when they are so far behind. What they need is a backup QB who doesn't throw the ball into the dirt or up high, and doesn't flutter the ball to the receivers. Someone who actually has some skills and is the legitimate QB in waiting. It's not intended to get them the win, it's intended to temporarily stop the bleeding so that they can regroup and get some momentum back. Throwing desperately and achieving futility is not a recipe for winning football either.

I'm beginning to think that "we need to study the film" is merely a euphemism for "we need to polish off a 26".

Maybe Hall should hire Etch to bring his erotic blitz strategy up to an X-rating.
