  1. Trevor Harris may have taken a haircut in Sask, but it's nowhere near as big as the one Masoli just received from Ottawa. "The 35-year-old receives a $45,000 signing bonus in his reworked agreement totalling $133,800 in hard money. He can earn up to $90,000 more in playtime incentives, broken down to $5,000 per game for playing 51 percent or more of the team's offensive snaps. His maximum earning potential is $236,800." In 2023 Masoli was scheduled to earn. Hard money: $425,000 Maximum value: $433,000 The RB's are opening the door wide for Brown to step on in at $250k + playtime incentives. Masoli will make tasty trade bait mid-season if he comes back healthy and in shape.
  2. How often has that strategy worked out in the past? Maybe once with Dieter Brock and twice if Brown turns out to be a bonafide starter elsewhere.
  3. Which is a real issue as they will not have the budget to attract or hang onto a decent backup until Zach's contract expires or he retires. The next starting QB will most likely step in from elsewhere once he's gone, instead of developing in house like Brown has.
  4. It would be interesting to examine the roster changes made after Reilly retired, because the next season Rourke took over and they thrived. Receiver would be an obvious position to look at but the Lions have had a pretty good pipeline of young receivers developing the last few years and other than Whitehead and Rhymes can't think of any others that came in through FA. In the same time period they also lost Burnham.
  5. Believe it or not Strev. lost track of that fur coat, it should have been put up for auction for a charity or in the BB HOF as a preserved artifact. In an interview he said he borrowed it from the mother of his GF's at the time, but I think Strev. found himself a new GF. Not sure the lady was from Wpg. but with a little bit of sleuthing it could probably be located. 🤫
  6. With so few openings I think if any team offered Brown $250k and the chance to compete for the starting job, he'd be interested. Ottawa, Calgary and Hamilton look to be the only 3 places that could potentially offer him that.
  7. I recall a few years were most teams were starting backup QB's because their starters were out with injury, and that led to a lot of bad football.
  8. Never heard this before, where did you get it from? Find it hard to believe considering this was well before Brady "found his game" and became an effective running back.
  9. BC allowed Butler to walk away and sign with Hamilton for $116k in hard money, $133k max. value. Dumb move but I can't see them offering Brady big bucks when a much cheaper Dedrick Mills might be on their radar. Stanback was the highest paid RB in the league last season, and not a great value at $160k in hard money and $170k max. value. I could see Brady shooting for $185k, just can't see any team other than the Bombers being very interested in him. Maybe the Als if they cut Stanback, they could pair Brady with Antwi.
  10. Not so many 225 lb. line brawlers available, but lots of smaller scat backs like Chevon Walker and Mizell in BC that can't get the job done anymore. Need that power game.
  11. According to 3DN Maier made. Hard money: $405,000 Maximum value: $447,000 No reason he shouldn't take a $100k haircut as he didn't produce up to those salary expectations.
  12. Longer term deal is a good idea, maybe Walters can convince Schoen to sign if he offers him $650k over 3 years.
  13. He's becoming Brady the obnoxious, he's going to be stunned when he discovers "the sky is not the limit".
  14. Bet O'Shea would like to get his hands on Konar if healthy, fits the mold of LB/ST player he covets.
  15. In the end I think Walters will be able to sign Brady for somewhere below $200k, but he'll be pushed over $250k if he hopes to retain Schoen. Not sure which team will do the most pushing with Jones out of the bidding but my guess would be Hamilton, because they do these kind of things and could have a comparatively low QB budget.
  16. Don't agree that either Crum or Evans have been "wrecked" and thought Crum substantially improved his game as the season went along. I'd welcome either as BB's if the RB's decided to turf them.
  17. Dave Dickenson saying Stamps will be more active in FA than they have in seasons past, so Dru Brown could be on their radar. “Everyone’s talking certain (positions), but we’re looking, we have to. Then we have to coach better and we have to find ways to keep improving because if we don’t, that’s not how you get back to playing the type of football that we want to play. We were 6-12 last year, so we need to we need to be a better team from top to bottom.” Normally smaller movers in the free agent market, Dickenson said that’s not necessarily going to be the case in 2024, as he shifts into his second season as the team’s GM. There’s still just over a month for teams to try to extend the contracts of their pending free agents, which makes for a cloudy picture of what the actual market might look like when it opens on Feb. 13. It’s something he and the Stamps are watching closely. “I think when you didn’t have your best year, I think you should be a little more active,” Dickenson said. “We’ll see how many of the guys that we’re targeting make it free agency and we’ll see if we can find a deal.”
  18. I don't think Brown will wreck his career if he signs with Ottawa, especially if he only signs a 2 year contract. He's not a raw rookie and shouldn't be discouraged if he ends up with a sub .500 record on a poor or improving team. It's a learning experience and many mature QB's have been through multiple losing seasons and gone on to thrive afterward. It comes down to a QB having confidence in their abilities and eventually finding a team with the right players and coaching staff to play competitive football.
  19. Why would Stanley Bryant have to wait for the dominoes to fall? He negotiates his own contracts and it's not like he's inline for a raise. I guess if Walters wanted to chop his salary too much, he could always make more playing elsewhere.
  20. Agree, it would be smart to trade Brown for Powell if the opportunity was there.
  21. Trade his rights early for an Ottawa QB, they've got an excess and won't be able to keep them all. It's better than bringing in a CFL new comer for the #2 spot. Masoli, Adams, and Crum are all currently under contract through 2024, while Nick Arbuckle is a pending free agent. Tyrrell Pigrome and Jake Dunniway, both of whom filled depth roles last year, are also signed for the upcoming season. Bob Dyce has to think like Jones and make sure the RB's get off to a good start next season, if he can't show improvement there's a good chance he'll be fired by game 6. What better way to ensure a good start than committing to Brown and dumping Masoli's contract asap.
  22. Trevor Harris restructures his contract to stay with the Riders, no details released but this makes one less landing spot for Dru Brown. https://3downnation.com/2024/01/09/qb-trevor-harris-restructures-contract-with-saskatchewan-roughriders/
  23. Could be, Ottawa had a pretty mediocre receiving corps. last season, but inexpensive, their top 2 receiver salaries were Acklin and Behar at around $140k.
