  1. It's great to have exciting punt returns now and again but the point of the game is to win. Washington's mistakes made this a much closer contest than it needed to be. Ball security is the first priority with punt returners, accumulating yards the second. If the offence is moving the ball effectively it doesn't matter much where they start on the field excluding being pinned on their goal line. It's the offences job to advance the ball down field and if they can't do that and have to rely on great punt returns for good field position chances are they are going to lose the game. The defencive side of special teams is in reality much more important for maintaining field position with good punt placement and containment.
  2. Over on the Riders forum they're saying after Kromah broke his leg he was never the same player. Guess we'll find out.
  3. Wow just wow, he has an off play and all of a sudden he's not good enough. That's the problem with playing DB, the player only gets attention when they get burned other than that they're anonymous. Look at Randle, 3 games and his name has only been mentioned twice on the telecast and that's a good sign.
  4. The score would have been much more lopsided if Glenn had time to get things done in the redzone this is were their weak O-Line really exposes itself. By far BC's top asset on offence is it's 2 RB set with both Logan and Harris firing on both cylinders the fireworks are spectacular. Wish the Bombers would give this a try with any combination of the 3 RBs they have right now. Seems like a very good strategy to employ when facing a strong pass rush.
  5. Not the smartest way to play the game as far as long term health is concerned that's for sure. I liken it to a brawler vs. a well trained boxer. A brawler may be able to dole out enough punishment to win matches but in the long-term his career will be dramatically shortened by the damage he accumulates. People were criticizing Nick Moore for "going down easy" but the way I look at it is his objective is ball retention and securing a first down not breaking tackles. If the first two objectives have been achieved than strategically he has fulfilled his duties. Three things can happen when a player fights for extra yards and two of them are bad. 1. He increases the odds of being stripped of the ball. 2. He increases the odds of being injured. (ie. Cory Watson) 3. He occasionally breaks tackle and gains extra yards. Of course none of these rules apply to the RB who by definition is designed to break tackles and fight for the extra yard. Most RB's have careers of 2-3 years so they truly are the sacrificial lambs of football. Can't recall many RBs that lasted 10 years other than George Reed. Sad thing in the modern era George Reed would probably have only had a career that lasted 2-3 years before he was replaced by somebody deemed to be "better".
  6. After listening to a game called by Rod Black listening to a game called by Chris Cuthbert is such a joy. Sticks to the play, doesn't get carried away and is unafraid of silence when waiting for the play to begin. Suitor is also much better than Forde in my opinion but Forde is handicapped by Black.
  7. My, my Jerome Messam just made a nice play on special teams....Funny I was told that he didn't play teams...
  8. For those who don't have TSN game is streaming here: http://www.wiziwig.tv/broadcast.php?matchid=265841∂=sports
  9. The BC/Rider game is streaming right now at this link. http://www.wiziwig.tv/broadcast.php?matchid=265841∂=sports Surprisingly good game, the Lions came to play.
  10. They brought the heat my friend but the Bombers were in their TE formation and picked up every last one the b*ggers. just looked at the replay nope if they would of been JFG would not of been on the field. I haven't seen a replay so I defer to your account. Did look to me like there were more bodies on the line though.
  11. Yah, I hate it when they completely abandon the run especially in a close game, reminds me of 2013. If they can't gain up the middle than take it outside but keep running! Seemed to me there were a couple of dropped balls tonight but they didn't show the replay so it was hard to tell who was at fault. On a positive note Grigsby looked effective catching passes.

  13. Thank God. I missed the entire first quarter messing around with live feeds. Eventually found a good one but it is a real p.i.a. to do this for every game. Seriously thinking about subscribing to cable just to be able to watch all CFL games with less hassle. Appreciate your efforts!
  14. I still blame Buck. "The world was his oyster" and he did nothing to win that game. That's when it first dawned on me that he didn't have the mental abilities to be a winning QB. Did he do nothing to win or did the offense play so passively because of the coaching? Seems to me that once the game started to get out of reach the offense opened up a bit and made some plays. That year though seemed that Lapo was quite happy to play stupidly conservative and hope that the defense would make enough big plays to win. Buck did very close to nothing in that game but LaPo. deserves some of that blame to be sure. Bombers first TD occurred wth 4 minutes left in the game, if it wasn't for garbage time points the final score would have been 34-9. In retrospect Buck's futility in that game looks very similar to the futility he brought to the field in 2012 and 2013. The writing was on the wall. For those who like to burn their flesh with cigarettes.....enjoy.
  15. Shocker. @BobIrvingCJOBALS expected to announce contract extension for Jim popp.

  17. Oh, *this* comment. Our third string running back is averaging over 100+ yards from scrimmage a game and just had 3 majors, the guy we're talking about doesn't play special teams and ... you think it's a bad decision? Scenario: O'Shea: So Gerome, you're a big strong guy and I understand you'd like to contribute to our specials teams? Messam: That's right Mr. O'Shea, that's right.. O'Shea: That worked out well.
  18. Simply put, Messam is National depth and offers "another" solution to ratio issues the team is currently facing. The Bombers seem to ignore available high caliber National talent when it comes available and than struggle with the ratio when a starter goes down. It has nothing to do with "who is the best RB". If they build up a stock pile of good nationals it would increase their possible solutions now and more so in the future. This is what Calgary and Sask. have done to build successful teams and it seems to work. There are only a handful of good National RB's in the league and like him or not Messam is one of them.
  19. Try to think of it this way. Only one or two CFL teams have backup QB's that are competent enough to lead their teams to victory. If starting QB's end up on the injury list the games become far less entertaining, casual fan interest for that team wans when they tail-spin and ticket sales drop. If protecting QB's is not a priority for the league perhaps they should think of it more in terms of lost revenue. Any mention of how much Willis was fined?
  20. Apparently Calgary was also trying to get him. Two of the best teams in the league see his value but not the Bombers.
  21. It kind of reminds me of those long drive competitions in golf. Good skill to have but only one of many needed, you never see top name PGA players qualifying for those competitions.
  22. Never heard the story, do you have details for us?
  23. It's a sad state of affairs but truthfully I can't believe any action will be taken for a long time to reduce brain concussions in pro sports. The NFL along with the broadcast networks would present such a strong political lobby that they could easily prevent any motion they did not like from succeeding for the next 300 years. Change would most likely have to occur in the NFL before any steps were taken in the CFL anyways. After all in our enlightened age MMA is alive and prospering, were you can watch a person with no defences get punched in the head repeatedly until he's knocked unconcious. It almost makes me nostalgic for wrestling were as a kid I got to witness Mad Dog Vachon bite off another guys ear. Yay Mad Dog!
  24. Never saw him play. Doesn't seem like he got a fair chance.
