i still think the biggest danger to Willy comes from the blitz when the O-Line is outnumbered.so adding another Int. to the ratio is not going to solve that problem. Witnessed many times last year when a DB or LB ran outside of January untouched to get a clear shot on Max Hall. Not January's fault because at the time he was fully occupied with a D-Lineman and Will Ford was usually wandering around somewhere up field "workin' on his juke".

I agree. There was no reason for Willis to smoke Collaros like that. With good QB's at a premium in this league that kind of bullshit just can't be tolerated. Look at the other extreme - Vega could have KO'd Burris the same way with the free shot he had but instead he held up to avoid a fine/penalty and ended up with Burris tossing it into the stands. I think that in the future, where the QB is in the grasp, the play should be dead immediately. Burris got away with two of those last week where our guys tried to stay in the bounds of legality and lost two sacks because of it. Good on our guys for keeping a quality QB alive, but on the other hand, they deserved those sacks because of it. I'm in total agreement. If the last 10 years of Bomber incompetence has proven anything it's that a good QB is a very valuable asset worthy of protection. Bomber fans would be out of their minds with rage if Willis took out Willy in this fashion. In the era of concussion awareness that we're entering I can see the day when it will be illegal for a defender to launch himself into another player. Football will change because the courts will force it to and tackling may need to revert to it's roots in rugby. It is only the protection of the helmet and shoulder pads that gives the tackler the false confidence that they will not be injured in a collision of that scale. I believe there is a growing body of research in hockey that shows that the development of protective equipment and body armor has crossed the line from defencive protection to offencive weaponry.

Gavins fined for dirty hit on Drew Willy
Fatty Liver replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The not-good thing about Grigsby on that play was that it sure looked like Grigsby didn't even try, and that could have put Willy right out of the game. Grigsby gave the rusher a complete free shot- hope it doesn't happen too often. If you watch that play again it looks like Grigsby is focused on the inside rusher which was probably his designated block. It was a matter of choosing between two pass rushers and unfortunately Grigsby chose the wrong one. -
Sounds good, bring him in for a tryout!

There are only about two teams in the entire league that couldn't make use of Peach at this point. It's got to be some bad voodoo that's keeping them from raiding Huff's cookie jar.

Bomber Game 2 vs Ottawa Now On Youtube

Thanks for your efforts. I really appreciate these simple solutions! -
I agree Woods is doing his job well. It does seem to me that he has lost a step from last year though, it looks like he put on about 20 lbs of muscle in the off-season and that may have detracted from his speed.

Good to see Sherman succeed but do you think he will develop into a starter? I see him more as a role player like Pontbriand, a great fill in that plays with enthusiasm and gusto and is a superstar on special teams.

Just a few more stupid question so that I understand this process better. I downloaded the file with the free version of utorrent and it took 8 hours to do so. I can now play the file with the utorrent player and I see that the playback can be paused but not reversed to allow for the review of a play to take a second look. No time bar either, what gives? Also can not locate the downloaded file on my PC. Is this because the file is not actually stored on my PC? Wonders never cease! ....and there it is all 5 mb's of it. Thanks! -

Willy might need to learn how to smile instead of playing it Buster Keaton deadpan, especially for those radio interviews.

That is commonly said but not always the case as Edmonton ran through T.C. without finding a RB equal to the 3 the Bombers have at their disposal. Problem is E.E. do not have an abundance of National resources either, nix trade.

Leos at Als / Tabbies at Eskies / Riders at Argos
Fatty Liver replied to USABomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
My Lord Chad Owens is a one man wrecking crew. He seems to be involved in about 30% of all Argo plays in that game. -
Buck is up in the booth fetching Marcel coffee.

Know what's scaring me - Edmonton has nothing at RB this year. I have a bad feeling that Cotton will end up here. Don't know why, just do. May not be such a bad thing as long as we get a useful player in exchange. Will Ford might be attractive trade bait as he is a proven commodity. I don't want to see Cotton pawned off until he has another kick at the can. He appeared to be a "holy ****" type RB in pre-season action and that type of player doesn't come along very often.

I missed the Sask/Argo game so I went to TSN to view the highlights. What they have to offer is an abbreviated highlight package, that doesn't even show all of the TD's never mind good defensive plays, sacks and turnovers! I don't get it. Why did they pay millions of dollars for the rights to broadcast the CFL and yet they go to lengths to restrict access to the archived product? Not only have they screwed up V.O.D. they have made it nye impossible for serious CFL fans to review games that they may have missed. I think this represents an attitude of neglect perpetuated by the media that is responsible for putting the CFL in danger in the Southern Ontario marketplace. -

Thanks! I downloaded the file but don't seem to have the software to play it. What does it play in? -
They've been using tight ends a lot (Pontbriand and double tights with Pontbriand and Fitzgerald), which is actually more effective for dealing with a pass rush than another back because it generally widens the rush lanes for edge rushers. Most protection schemes now tend to count the number of potential rushers in the box and add blockers as needed, which is why you see Feoli-Gudino/Watson or Moore pass blocking sometimes too. Nothing wrong with moving to a Tight End that can make the occasional catch full time. Keeping Willy upright over the course of the season is the Bombers ticket to the playoffs. Without him they're going nowhere and I hope they take his protection seriously. I've watched 6 games so far this year and find it hard to believe the amount of abuse the QB's who are the leagues lifeblood are taking. I don't think it can be blamed entirely on poor O-Lines as the Etch-esque blitz packages seem to be doing the most damage. What Willis did to Collaros whether legal or not does the league no good if Collaros is out for 6 weeks with concussion symptoms. We all want the CFL to survive and prosper and to do so they need to protect their biggest assets better.

I figure he might have got us two more wins but he also may have ended up being injured.
-
As well as Grigsby has been running to date I think Cotton would smoke him. Cotton was far and away the best "participating" RB in camp and he has the added bonus of being a fantastic kick returner. As far as blocking goes who knows which is best, as I recall Will Ford wasn't so great at that either.
-
Just imagine if the Bombers had acquired Drew Willy last year around mid-season and played him in place of Max Hall to finish out the season. Hypothetically speaking how do you think he would have fared?
-
I think the Bomber O-Line has played fairly well so far but it did suffer when Greaves went down last week. The real issue is picking up the blitz when the O-Line is outnumbered and this falls to the backs. I wish the Bombers would seriously consider sacrificing a receiver position to add another full time back whose exclusive purpose was to protect Willy. Volny, Fitzgerald, whoever, just pick the best blocking National on the roster and stick him back there as Willy's personal bodyguard. Dan Knapp would be fun but he has the wrong passport. Protects Willy from injury and also buys him a bit more time to pick his target.
