  1. Not true. Hall went head to head with Nieswander last year in a game and came out on top in every category. If Max only won one game last year that was it.
  2. This is a good indication that some of the players the Bombers had in 2013 were not all that easy to replace. Not exactly a vet purge.
  3. Is this being covered live by anyone? Can't find anything yet.
  4. You've got to Wonder if Doug Brown would even have stood a chance of being a member of Etch's squad....very exclusive group.
  5. Consider the following scenario. 1. Hall gets cut 2. Willy gets seriously injured within the first 4 games 3. Brohm proves ineffectual in relief. 4. The Angst over not signing Kevin Glenn begins anew until Willy returns.
  6. I'm willing to bet that a team will pick up Messam shortly for the season and he makes a positive contribution on play as he's still a very good athlete. Don't know what kind of personality he has but two things to consider, giving him an opportunity and redemption. Don't like the notion of evaluating a players worth solely on paper as a lot of interesting things can happen when they get their hands on the dirty old pig skin. Denmark redeemed himself last season maybe it's Messam's turn this year. It's always a gamble but what are the odds?
  7. Can't be too worried about the RB as it's one of the few positions that has solid talent throughout imo. Whether it's Ford or Grigsby they're going to be more than adequate to carry the limited running attack the Bombers will present and both have breakaway potential. Knowing that Cotton will be back in 2-3 weeks should give them supreme motivation to perform.
  8. I think you misspelled that, it should be "Chez Pierre".
  9. Hopefully if this situation occurs again in the regular season the Bombers are smart enough to attempt to keep the ball on the ground and run the ball into the endzone when they have a first down inside the 10.
  10. A key to Etch's strategy is "don't fall behind".
  11. Good article in the Freep today were Doug explains the positive and negatives of Etch's defensive scheme. If his fly-weight defence can continually keep opposing QB's running for their lives that would help ease the pain of giving up easy yards on the ground. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/columnists/run-d-might-be-weak-263399081.html
  12. Bob Irving and O'Shea seem to have very good chemistry and I like the way O'Shea honestly answers questions. I think this may be the best lineup on that show for many a year, looking forward to following it.
  13. How bout we just call him "kicker"?
  14. I counted 7 drops in that game that should have been caught, very bad. Did not notice any throws to Woods or Tarver in game two so I guess that experiment may be over. I'm confident the Bombers will have a dynamic passing attack this year once they get their first team receivers on the field and won't be surprised if Moore is the only new name in that group. Both Carter and Feoli-Gudino should make decent subs for Watson when he inevitably goes down. Is it possible for the Bombers to keep both on the roster?
  15. He dropped a gimme yesterday. In fact yesterday was a typical Aaron Kelly game. One great play that sticks in the minds of fans and then everyone forgets how he was invisible the rest of the game (aside from a drop) Sorry, I did miss that play.
  16. Denmark also dropped a catchable ball in the end zone.
  17. Aaron Kelly gets no respect on this forum. He catches everything that's thrown his way and I don't think any new receiver played well enough to take his job away. They all had flashes but consistency was lacking. Very pleased with the national prospects and the skill Carter and Feoli-Gudino showed in limited action, didn't notice Taylor Renaud as much.
  18. I'm willing to give him a chance but I do wonder if Etch's defensive scheme can deal with current offensive trends in the CFL. Argos will dink and dunk underneath effectively moving the ball down the field and Hamilton may decide to go that way now that they have Collaros. Teams like Calgary, BC and perhaps Sask. will take what's given and should be able to run at will against his kind of defense. Effectively pass protecting for the long ball doesn't prevent other teams from finding ways to win games. Still bothers me that in that pre-season interview Etch thinks of himself as a misunderstood genius that's ahead of the curve. Primary role of the defense should be to adjust to what the offense is trying to accomplish and stop it. The Bombers seem to have no ability to stop the run and i.m.o. Cornish would have easily ripped off a 200+ game if he was allowed to continue.
  19. Funny, I have a harder time remembering him not being injured....or is that Watson..
  20. I think Max needs to crack a rib or two before he takes it seriously. He was smiling way too much for my liking in that pre-season game.
  21. I would be happy to see the Bombers go with Cotton but would like to see them keep Ford around as backup and to step in to a two back set on occasion as well. Both are dynamic backs and exciting kick returners. Grigsby doesn't seem to have the same explosiveness as the other two.
  22. Hall has the weakest arm of the bunch, the really windy days won't be his friend. I hope Brohm makes some kind of push now. Keeping a bunch of really good players will help this team get better. Discarding the crapiest players and keeping the guys who win jobs by default does not help this team get better. If Brohm can finally start forcing the issue OShea will have the good kind of hard choice to make. I've read this statement a lot here, and, as someone not to familar with levels of arm strength as a QB, I would tend to agree based on my observations of his play. For arguments sake, let's say this is true. So, in a passing league like the CFL, where it's standard to throw a forty-yard out with zip, does his other skills make-up for this limitation? Yes he's appears decisive but that becomes tempered on some plays with a weaker arm, no? He seems like a good guy who loves playing the game but I'm not feeling it with him. I hope, as I sometimes am, completley wrong and he plays at the level required to run the offense we employ this year. Weakest arm of the bunch is a relative statement. He gets some grief for that but I'm pretty sure he can put enough zip on the ball to knock a tooth out of my face while I'm standing 15 yards away from him and explaining his lack of arm strength to him. A strong arm allows a QB to force balls into tight coverage before the DB can react. That sounds like a good thing, and it can be, but it can also be a crutch for QBs who aren't good at reading coverage, or a problem for QBs who think they can throw the ball hard enough to beat any coverage. Known as a Bishop. When a QB understands the CFL better he knows which passes are available to him on any given play. Sometimes the out pass will be there for Hall, sometimes it won't. He has to be smart enough to see it. He seems pretty cerebral in his approach. Last year he was a CFL rookie. He had lot of NFL experience but history has shown that doesn't mean much. He picked it all up pretty quick and ended up as our best QB last year (not saying much) despite being a rookie and having a "weak arm". The goal is to win games this year, not accumulate the most project players. Odds are that Hall as our backup gives us a better chance to do that than the other two, at least in the short term. There is plenty of camp left to see what kind of challenge Brohm can put up. Sounds like he mounted one today. I agree with everything you said but I have to admit I'm disappointed in Max's performance so far in TC and the one pre-season game. His most obvious skill is his ability to move the ball down the field consistently making smart decisions but if that isn't happening... He came into camp as the underdog and does not seem to have progressed beyond what he showed us last year even though he had an off season to prepare for the challenge.
  23. Just re-watched the Marve segment on TSN Video on Demand. What struck me was the first completion to Kemp wasn't thrown on a frozen rope as I expected but had a beautiful "Ricky Ray" arc to it that hit Kemp even though there were two Argos covering him. Without perfect placement and touch that completion was not there.
  24. Don't think anybody picked up Josh Nieswander either.
  25. I would like to know the context of this as it seems like overkill to be fired over consumption of a single beer unless he had a serious drinking problem. Did the club make beer available in the clubhouse or did he bring it in himself???....If they came off practice and it was hot or muggy and the guy doesn't drink pop but was reeeal thirsty...
