I'm not sure where this idea that our DTs are "too small" started... most teams DTs are around 6'1-6'4 and around 290-300 lbs... obviously there's a few exceptions... Anderson is 6'3 297 and Collins is 6'2 294... however, I did notice that Turner is playing at 266 lbs this year (still 6'2, that hasn't changed for some reason )... which is surprising since I thought he was normally in the 280-285 range... anyways, point is, I don't think our DTs are too small...

Everyone is playing zone so far this year in their base defense. It's pretty much impossible to play the man/match coverages when you can't run receivers into "checkpoints" downfield and toss them off their routes without it being called a penalty. The Bombers problem is in their front. Agreed. We are getting almost zero pressure on the QB's. The main reason why Hamilton dominated Willy (after that first drive) and then Brohm was that they dominated in the pass rush and residually controlled the run game with that pressure and the score. Until we get some consistent pressure we could have Roy Bennett, Rod Hill, James Jefferson, and Vince Phason back there and we'd still look silly. So far, on defense, IMO the biggest disappointment has been Westerman. Has he even made a tackle yet? Is he even playing? I don't even see him when the bombers D is on the field. well he did have a sack and a forced fumble (which I don't remember) last game according to CFL.ca... and tackles aren't exactly a measure of DE effectiveness... while I agree he has been a little under-whelming, I wouldn't say disappointing... but what, exactly, were you expecting from him in his first 2 CFL games?

Think about this for a second... do you truly, honestly, believe that with modern concussion awareness and the potential health of a young man in mind... the bombers medical and coaching staff would 1. Rush back a concussed player 2. Risk Willy's long term football career and personal health Just to try and win game 3 of the season?? -
After watching a bit of the hammy game and most of last night I have to agree with you... but it is only week 2... it literally takes half a season before we get a true grasp on every team in the CFLThe number of hot starts turning to crappy falls we've had recently, I'm more than happy to sit and wait for a team to play .500 ball as it grows together and starts to click around Labour Day. People really gotta chill. This site sucks after a loss.... If we're 5-4 or 4-5 at labour day (not actually sure how many games are before LD) I'm happy with that... as long as the team is progressing

I think the more frustrating part was that Brohm had him on 2 deep balls... which were promptly under-thrown

Cato was impressive last night... but having film on a guy makes a huge difference...

I'm wondering about Garrett Waggoner... I realize he's a rookie and has a lot to learn about the cfl still... but I'm wondering if he is a MLB candidate... same size as Hurl (6'1 225lbs, perfect for a cfl MLB), he's fast, fluid in his movements, and has shown great instincts... maybe it'll just take some time for him... even Henoc took didn't "bloom" until his second season... anyone have anything to add on Waggoner at MLB?

[MERGED] Drew Willy Watch And Fine Discussion

Without question... Drew Willy's health is my number 1 concern from last night's game... yes there was plenty of bad last night, but a lot of it can be fixed with practice or bringing in competition.... Drew Willy is the only irreplaceable member of this team... If he sits out next week to rest and get to 100% for Calgary I'm ok with that... Also any word on if the league is reviewing that hit? Clearly he projected head first right into Willy's jaw... seemed pretty textbook to me... -

IMO we play the 2 best teams in the league tonight and week 4... if we lose both of those games it's not the end of the world... of course the scores in those games will be a factor -
Hurl - O'Shea; Mentor - Protege: Cloning ?

Not even close..what a terrible comparisonTerrible hyped up Canadian players that didn't cut it as starters on their former teams and we thought we could change that? It's a very apt comparison actually.No... Its not really. No one had tremendous hope for Cauchy.. We do for Hurl. We also didn't write off the kid after one game.. Against his former team.... And former coach...Smh. That's revisionist history. Lots of folks around here had huge expectations for Cauchy and didn't want to hear that he wasn't a good pick up. I think you're half right... a lot of people had high hopes for Cauchy... but didn't write him off after one game... at least that's how I felt -

If Holley keeps up his play... I'm not sure Grigsby gets back in even when he is healthy... -
the power rankings are useless at the best of times... much less after week one... but I'd say this is fairly accurate based on what we know right now
-
I believe it technically would have been in favour of Teague Sherman... ratio issues... speaking of Sears and other former Bombers... Sears, Jovon, and Hefney all had INTs in week one...

You mean corner?... but yes I agree, I think he may stay there til one of the new guys is ready... I think Burnett will be a good candidate -
Kohlert out? Bastien starting?

*shows up to the thread late* what did I miss guys?? -
They still have Labatte, Best, Emry, Getzlaf, Bagg, Messam... Pretty good core of Canadians.Messam and Emry are marginal or worse. And yet still better than what we have. AKA a non existent Canadian running back and Sam Hurl until proven otherwise. Gotta love the people saying Getzlaf and Bagg are on the wrong side of 30 then pointing at Picard as a reason why our Canadians are improving. Can't have it both ways. The TSN grades are fair. We have lots of potentially great Canadians but until they prove it on the field you can't expect anyone to give the Bombers anything more than a barely passable grade. yes, you can, actually... skill position players generally tend to decline after 30... while guys in the trenches, especially O-linemen, tend to still be effective into their 30s... some hogs don't peak until their early 30s... Easy to generalize like that but when you look at the facts, Bagg and Getzlaf were #1 and #4 in terms of Canadian receivers last season. Yes they have flaws but so does every Canadian in the CFL... they are still premier Canadian receivers. Since this is based solely on predictions we only really can generalize... and in this case it's much more likely to see Getzlaf and Bagg continue to decline than any o-lineman over 30...

If healthy, I might have Gaydosh ahead of Steele
-
I'd like to hear you're in depth analysis to back this one up... Chungh was considered by many as the best player in the draft... based on rankings Richards, went about where he was projected... Morgan was maybe about 5 spots early...
