Vince McMahon considers move to bring back the XFL
bearpants replied to wbbfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Realistically.... Johnson is just the "face of the franchise"... his financial commitment is probably limited... if the headline says "redbird capital buys the XFL" no one cares... -

too many people think it's still the 1970s.... size is important but speed and puck movement trumps size every time... I'd take a small, good skating puck mover over a big bruiser any day... although, I'd rather have a guy that's both (Byfuglien 😥)

I was just thinking this... can you imagine how excruciating this off season would be if we had not won the cup... I don't even want to think about it...
-
I saw Adam Bighill and his family at Assiniboine park last weekend... I think he's in Wpg full time with that finance job he has in the off season...
-
disagree with the first bolded... if wearing a mask in a sparsely crowded stadium can get me watching some live Bombers football... I'm all in! completely agree with the second bolded... maybe in my younger days with no kids or other responsibilities I'd watch two random teams play... but certainly not right now.
-
this isn't terribly surprising.... if for some reason the Bombers ever had to change their name... I know I'd try to snap up a bunch of gear with "Blue Bombers" written on it...

I hate using slavery as an example because it's such a terrible black mark in our history... but sometimes it take an extreme example to explain the point... When slavery was abolished they were not pretending it didn't happen and they did 'fix' the problem (well, eventually)... exactly like you said we should not be doing today... so based on your argument as you've clearly outline above, they should not have viewed slavery "with a modern filter" and continued to allow it...
-
Here's the problem with a statement like this... what it implies (and I know you're not trying to say this) is that slavery was ok because it was deemed acceptable at the time... some things certainly need a modern filter... BTW... the rest of this post had some good stuff but also stuff I disagree with so I decided to go too deep into it...

From some of the stories you tell from the 70s and 80s your memory is impressive... but where your "chasing the money" argument falls short is that if he was truly an elite, irreplaceable QB... his current team would pony up the money to keep him... Nobody said Damon Allen was a bad QB or a bum... most have simply argued he was a very good QB who gained impressive stats by playing forever but was almost always lesser than other QBs in the league when he played... simple as that...
-
Don't worry... I would say if there's one thing we've learned about Wade Miller since he took over the team... he absolutely cares about what the fans want
-
I get the second half of your post is a very unfunny joke... but are you serious about the Red Wolves part?... or was that just the set up to the bad joke?
-
Another thought aside from whether the name is racist or not... the financial impact of a complete brand change for the Edmonton Football club... why don't we wait to see if there's still a CFL and the club is still financially viable before spending millions of dollars on re-branding... I know, this is not the crux of the issue... but something to consider...
-
As somebody else mentioned... because of Durant's disappearing act... we essentially gained Streveler and Bighill... so he did us a nice favour
-
for me... the only opinion that matters is that of the Inuit population... I don't give a **** about a bunch of white people shouting about something being offensive or not... the only opinion that matters is the Inuit population... if they want it changed, it should be changed...

Favourite and least favourite Bomber
bearpants replied to TrueBlue4ever's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
How about Onterrio "The Whizzanator" Smith... -
Sure, I won't dispute that... but it doesn't mean he wasn't a great QB for a long stretch of time...
-
I used to hate Anthony Calvillo... mostly because he destroyed us sooooo many times.... as the years went on I began to appreciate his greatness.... (beating Sask in back to back cups helped 😀 )

Favourite and least favourite Bomber
bearpants replied to TrueBlue4ever's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
From the era I grew up in the first two players that come to mind are Doug Brown and Milt Stegall... those two are probably my all time favourite Bombers... that's based on their play on the field and having met both off the field... both great players and great people.... Obviously this championship team... having the benefit of recency bias.... has produced some fan favourite players too... Harris, Bighill, Hardrick, Streveler... I really can't think of a Bomber player that I really "hated"... or even strongly disliked... Anthony Marlborough and Jovon Johnson are two players that I can remember really falling off at the end of their time with the Bombers... I would classify that more as frustrated with their play rather than actually disliking the player... -
2019-20 Grey Cup Champs Off-season discussion.
bearpants replied to Wanna-B-Fanboy's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
delayed response to this... I agree with you and think they are both very good receivers... but on top of that, they are true Mike O'Shea guys... they take their role and give 100% on every play... they put the team success ahead of their personal success... when Bailey scored that TD in the GC (which we all know was called back) all he did was celebrate that they're going to win... not his personal accolades... Another quick story... after the parade, my friend and I went our separate ways and he happened to run across Lawler doing an impromptu autograph session... Lawler had a friend there saying "it's cold, let's go" (obviously paraphrasing)... and Lawler refused to leave saying the weather was fine and it's all about the fans... he wouldn't leave until they all got an autograph... These are the kind of players we want on this team... -
haha, what a joke... I wonder if they would've "ignored" the fine if Winnipeg, Regina, or Edmonton went over the cap... 🙄
-
Of course... but you think a national CFL broadcast is entry level??... entry level is a radio broadcast for an MJHL team... CFL is about 5 levels above entry level...
-
He's on the payroll... he'll do what it takes to appease the masses... I think he'd be plenty impartial if he went back to a national gig...
-
with the exception of one 4th quarter... which shall remain unnamed...

I love sooo much that this is a real person...
