Many don't know where the dial is??? lol

CJOB went with Cloutier and Ms. Kennedy cuz they were already on staff and the impact on profit would be minimal. I think Corus tall foreheads believe its not gonna get better, only worse at OB so why waste money bringing in a Bro Jake, Humble Howard, Tom McGouran, etc. Go cheap and just put a new skin on old lizards. The details in the Hal/Adler incident are now officially sketchy. Hal used to preview Addy's show at 8:45am and a couple weeks or less before he got fired Hal got really testy with Adler about something Adler boasted about. Adler was evidently stunned on the air cuz at CJOB you're not supposed to judge the old boy. After that Hal didn't do any more preview shows with Adler and was dispatched shortly after the incident. Adler is 60+ yrs old and he's been doing the same show for almost half his life. He basically purchased the Rush Limbaugh rights for Canada. He tries to be the guy who cares about the small folk and the voters but ends up coming off as a pure fascist. Doesn't have much patience with callers so he doesn't take many calls anymore. Instead, relies on a host of old cronies he's built up over the years. Most of his shows sound the same - even when he forces out some voice-cracking when reading emotional events, etc. Other than the fact he's got some form of seniority at Corus his show ends up sounding the same. Blustery old guy with Ted Baxter type voice, attacking all things liberal and socialist, jumping on the Helmut Harper train, poor interviewing and listening skills. Worst tendency is he over-sells everything, including a continual rant about why his show is different and why he asks different questions. IT GETS TEDIOUS!

Bombers negotiate Transit game day discount
Nasty Nate replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
All that is is intimidation. Unless you're someone important posting crap on the internet is no different than standing on the street corner saying anything which is quite allowed. Just there's a lot of people willing to go through the process of trying to scare people with lawyers even though there's nothing they can really do. Exactly. I've had some really nasty things said about me online but there's not a lot you can do. Sammy is suing a student newspaper so he's pretty determined to go after people that slander him. But it's hard to prove and usually not worth it. I had a guy steal a logo off my website once. He changed the colour but it was otherwise exactly the same. I told him it was funny but knock it off. He replied "talk to my lawyer" and gave me his lawyers name. So I called his lawyer who had no idea what I was talking about. 30 minutes later, the logo was removed and Im pretty sure he got a bill for his lawyer's services. It works both ways...lol But remember, the defense to slander is the truth. Sammy stopped playing the U of W newspaper a couple months back. He played the classic L. Ron Hubbard game of "Lurch & WIthdraw" aka "Reach & WIthdraw". He got some free media time, he issued legal threats, he attempted to scare the managers at the U of W. But he had no intention of retaining a lawyer, costing himself coin and then having to go to court and spend more non-productive time in front of a judge plus spectators. -
CJOB started their new show today. I had an early morning appt. so I began listening at approx. 5:40am One word - AWFUL Kathy Kennedy is brutally brutal. A classic rip 'n read news person. Did an interview with some guy about a computer bug that didn't even ask the question about fixes. Rich Cloutier is solid. Solid but boring. Heavy Hal had a bit of flair and some personality. These two don't even come close to the big boy!

I think you accept the terms of the deal cuz finding a decent OL coach was proving nigh on impossible for the Bombers. Too bad they had to wait til Big Bob was absent from work (training camp) to release the terms of the contract they signed with him. Not very transparent by an organization that vowed more transparency. But to be expected nonetheless!

TSN Off-Season Game Plan: Winnipeg Jets

Burmi is a monster. He'd be an instant upgrade on 3rd line duty. 12 to 16 goals for sure, maybe 25 assists. WOW! -

Did Wylie tell O'Shea and the GM kid the Bombers would come second to his 'clinics' this year? -
You hit the spot with that comment. Reporters hate, absolutely hate when their work is critiqued by others, especially others in media. If a mean cuss like Adler had Bartley Kives talking about how Adler tends to 'Go Fascist' with little provocation I'm sure Adler would be running down to the Free Press offices demanding a summit with owner Bob Silver to get Kives fired. In Winnipeg there exists an unwritten 'gentleman's agreement' not to criticize other media members work. In reality the only outlets that have any kind of editorial outlook are Free Press, Sun, CBC Radio, CJOB, CBC TV and perhaps a couple web sites. So its rare when one media person from the aforementioned list criticizes another. Even more rare was the incident when Hal Anderson confronted Adler and made him cry. (two guys from the same outlet)

Sounds like a slightly bigger version of Jovon Johnson.

CJOB will prolly hit a 10 rating next time out. The programs are stale, the personalities and announcers are either too green or veteran mopes who've washed out elsewhere. TSN 1290 does a great service in both professional and amateur sports. Hussler & Lawless is obviously their anchor program - Lawless does some amazing work breaking stories and has a great rolodex of guests he calls upon when issues break. His only problem is he has no problem patting himself on the back whenever he does a good job. Hussler is a great little guy who has blossomed into a very good radio host. Westwood and Paul Edmunds are good in the a.m. with the obvious problem of Matt Leibl, a 28 yr old ego freak with limited media experience. Rick Ralph does a nice job in the 11 to 3 spot (the first two hours repeat themselves) but Ralph never takes open-line calls and goes 15 to 20 minutes sometimes without taking a breath. In other words, he's verbose. The problem at TSN is they abandon the party on weekends, relying on repeat golf shows, Bluejay broadcasts, Jim Rome, prior week hi-lites, etc. Their only local programming is a group of young rogues called The Illegal Curve, where these guys parse the game of hockey more than anyone could imagine. Sometimes its very good, sometimes its awful.

Your old rasslin' buddy Marty Gold was totally shivved when RRCC cowardly closed their own radio outlet. A school that has a decent creative communication program swallowing the cyannide on its own station? Severe! But the RRCC Prez (a woman) has had a shadowy time with legal matters and so far she's managed to survive. But Marty Gold was the anti-Adler, a verbose media personality that exposed various frauds and shysters on his shows. Silencing Marty was despicable.

Ads aren't really that cheap on CJOB. Of course, rates differ depending on the resistance a merchant may provide. OB will take full boar when the opportunity to dunk an advertiser presents. Also, the demographics skew to a 70 to 100 crowds - prolly 80% or more of their listenership. You don't get bargains if your demo is 18-40 at CJOB.

Madani: CFLPA Recommends Strike Vote To Members
Nasty Nate replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Madani's nickname should be CNN.... Just like when CNN has the Breaking News flasher across their screen.... Then they announce today's breaking news is 'that there is NO BREAKING NEWS'..... -
CJOB has one other nasty tendency. They hire a ton of RRCC creative communications grads - some of who can't breathe, let alone speak with a microphone. Once these grads get to a certain level they tend to bolt to other media or other jobs altogether creating a constant merry-go-round of talent. Its true Big Hal only had a couple months left on his contract when he was told to go home. The fact it occurred shortly after the incident with Adler is interesting. The one thing CJOB has always been good at is selling ads. They can fill any hour between 6am and 6pm with 35 to 40 minutes of commercials that kind of kill any content momentum they might have. I thought all crap would break loose at CJOB once they dropped under 12 in the ratings (they were near 20 at one point). Well, they hit 12 on the button. Now they're teaming a rather unpleasant news nerd (Cloutier) with a rather unpleasant crabby Kathy Kennedy (both of whom are over 50) Hal was going to pot a bit too. His shows relied on bringing in a bevy of cranky fellow CJOB'rs like 65 year old traffic dude Brian Barkley, a young female content producer, the board guy and 66 yr old Bob Irving or Kelly Moose to convene 'panels' on international affairs or local politics where most of the speakers knew diddle squat of the subject.

Local media outlets are reporting perennial senior ratings powerhouse CJOB has put together a new morning team to replace the recently fired Hal Anderson. The new team includes primary anchor Richard Cloutier (CJOB's long-time news director) and veteran newsreader Kathy Kennedy (KK) who's previous incarnation was as straight 'man' on 92 CITI FM's Tom & Joe show. CJOB has suffered a tragic ratings slide in the last few years, now only a hair ahead of public-subsidized CBC 990. Anderson had evidently made the tragic mistake of crossing long-time talk-show host Charles "Addy" Adler and despite his high local ratings and great presence in the community (for the record Hal is approx. 6'6" and 450 lbs) Anderson lost the battle. CJOB has the bomber rights despite TSN's constant attempt to wrestle the rights away. Corus Entertainment continues to pay the piper to keep those bomber rights cuz if they lost them their ratings would probably plummet.. CJOB has a secondary sports presence after 24 hour TSN 1290 and has been whipped in the hockey slots and the Hussler & Lawless slot. Troy Westwood with Paul Edmunds and a junior named Matt Leibl is the low spot in TSN's ratings. Lots of good things about TSN. Dennis Beyak, Westwood, Lawless, Hussler, Rick Ralph, extensive pre and post game Jet coverage, Shane Hnidy. Bad things - morning show is very argumentative and Leibl just argues with everyone for the heck of it. Repeat of Rick Ralph's mid-day show is unnecesary. They dropped the Goldeye games when Edmunds left the Goldeyes and now broadcast a ton of Bluejay games.

TSN Off-Season Game Plan: Winnipeg Jets
Nasty Nate replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Marchand is a tremendous rat. And he might be able to come close to matching Evander Kane's point totals working on a so-called rat-line. Obviously, Chevy would never trade Kane's potential for a rat. But he might be able to get a couple high picks in addition to Kane, maybe even a top development player. -

Sellinger is indeed the worst piece of human vermin ever to grace the premier's office in Manitoba. Followed closely by Garry Filmon, Sir Rodmund Roblin & Howard Pawley. He's currently piecing together his exit plan and will not run in the next election. That big huge stork lady Teresa Oswald will be confronting Andrew Swan and Hunchback Howard for the NDP leadership fairly soon. -

Don't think they voted. Katz's emergency replacement for the recently fired Phil Sheegl, Deepak Joshi told the bombers they could stuff it! -
Bombers negotiate Transit game day discount

I think Miller's proposal for free-rides (a recurring bomber theme) will centre around what you've stated. The city can still provide regular routes to the stadium and charge their $2.55 fee (reg. adult busfare)..... at that point if the City suspects they're losing over a million in revenue they might come back to Miller with another proposal. If Bombers are so concerned about getting their fans to the stadium for FREE why not have the fans pay to ride and give them a free soda (value $7, cost around 35 cents) at the game. Or a half-price game program? Or a $5 merchandise certificate at Bannon's shop? Something like that? -

I think the last opinion poll I saw had his approval rating hovering around 10% or something. So, well, yeah. I think its safe to say around 80% of Winnipeggers despise Sam Katz but if he entered another election less than half of those folks would vote to toss him out. Coffeetalk hatred seldom morphs into polling station authority. Lots of peeps still fear this piece of vermin. -

Would Mr. Moneybags (aka G Selinger) please report to the Bob Irving Media centre???? Mr. Moneybags!@!! -
I think Popeye Sutter has come up with a way to choke out most opponents. Bigger, stronger guys who have a killer will to win. Almost unbeatable. Although they did come out of the chute a bit feeble in the first round and almost got taken out!

He got a couple nice draft picks for The Pizza Man, Johnny Oduya. Oduya is playing much better in the Chicago system than he ever did in Atlanta/Winnipeg. Fans are tickled pink the Jets are within 6 pts of a playoff berth - so major or even semi-major trades aren't likely. Clitsome is a possibility. Chevy would have to get over-value for Kane so that one won't happen either. I think the Finnish Gash will sign up for another year. A younger goaler likely to replace Montoya as Ondrej's backup. Fans won't tolerate that fast kid with no hands being brought back either!
