  1. Well, Ace Burpee is a well-known and respected radio broadcaster. I don't know how he can tolerate the level of anger and vehemence towards his first foray into the burger biz. There's actually a broadcaster in Winnipeg named Ace Burpee? That can't be his real name. if it is he must've been one tough SOB just to get thru high school. David 'Ace' Burpee. Started out at CJOB after going thru RRCC creative communications. Lasted about a year at OB. Ended up morning man at top-rated sugar-pop station Hot 103 FM. . . now Virgin radio. . . part of the TSN 1290 collective. Great community guy with super personality. Does tons of charity work. Not the greatest voice in the world (so he won't be lured to other markets) but combination of being "Winnipeg's Ryan Seacrest" and local charity work makes him Winnipeg's top radio DJ. (and probably highest paid now that Anderson got offed by CJOB)
  2. I don't like the January-Morley clique we have in the locker room. Two mediocre o-linemen, one import, one canuck - both pretty slow-moving sluggish giants! And as for those speculating about if we have to go with 2 imports on our o-line..... try 3 - we're probably gonna have to go with 3 imports to start the year if Goose isn't ready to start . . . Morley and Greaves are our only sure-fire canuck o-ilnemen and both of them are mediocre (Greaves is average, Morley is below average) Pencer isn't ready and his only guarantee is coming up lame time after time. Chris Kowalcyyk is a low-grader too. If you're gonna use 3 imports on your o-line they ALL better be monsters. January, Jones & Knapp aren't monsters! A sub-par o-line makes running difficult. Makes even a very good QB susceptible to bull rushes & sack, not to mention picks when you have to throw before being sacked. NOT A GOOD SIGN!
  3. Matthews should be the first one of the bunch to be cut loose. Mulumba would have to slump badly to escape Green Bay's mitts. Muamba should be sure-fire to make Colts special teams, possibly rotating in for 5 to 7 reps at linebacker. Alex Hall has discipline problems. If that comes up in NFL camp, he'll be back hunting for CFL employment.
  4. because any OC that sees him out there is going to pick on him... Have to agree. Suber has some talent, but he seems to arrive 1/4 second late on a regular basis. Real liability if he expects Banks to do his work.
  5. Anyone know where Jovon landed? Probably nobody cares!
  6. Thats about right. Nobody is all-star material but if Wylie can whip 'em into shape they could be serviceable. Greaves is the best run-blocker of the bunch, btw. Knapp best combo run and pass blocker. As Morley gets older his serviceability and range decrease. Centre could be his best spot for a year or so until he's released. Neufeld has to step up and be mediocre to slightly above average. Above average is probably his ceiling.
  7. Goltz is so good nobody has picked him up!
  8. We have some canadian problems on our o-line,no question. Most of it due to letting Brendan Labatte walk a province over, passing on Brett Jones (starting in Calgary) and other questionable personnel/draft decisions. However, the bigger problem has been the mediocrity of the import guys we've brought into town. Ever since Hoss Goodspeed left we got nothing but joe-boys. January is a nice guy, well-spoken and all that, co-hosted Doug Brown's show for a few years but his on-field contribution is that of a Class 1 mediocre ex-rider reject. Guy is too big to ever get steam-rolled or pancaked but not enough push, pass blocking average to slightly above but run-blocking is mediocre. Jarvis Jones is even a step down from January. Knapp is the only one with promise as he uses a variety of dirty tricks in his job. Again, don't know if he can consistently move d-liemen against their will. Pencer is just too slow afoot to be anything more than a 7th OL, a poor man's insurance policy. And you pray he never has to take more than a handful of snaps - especially if you're the QB...
  9. B-level chase team!
  10. Thats right, let Hall be the #2 on the depth chart but in reality Marve is the comer
  11. Just for the record whats the bombers policy on coaches and players drinking?
  12. Hall is a solid, reliable guy who can conduct business in a morose, mediocre way but he's sturdy and likes playing here. Don't have a problem giving him the headset and the sideline signal responsibilities. Good 3rd guy to have on a team although he might be a tad expensive. Willy and Marve would be a good 1-2 punch but to satisfy Max's ego the staff could designate him the #2 guy (for the time being)
  13. Tarver is the only consensus cut I've noticed. Wonder if Pencer is another bubble player although his ginormity and citizenship might grant him at least 1/4 season before Walters has to pull the ejection seat. If a young, fresh giant can't take over from a fading, washed out mediocrity like Steve Morley then we gots problems!
  14. Banks is also gonna find rhetoric only gets him so far. Ask Do or Die or Noeller about this. If he's trying to slither by in Etch's system by hiding behind better players hoping they'll make the plays he's got another thing coming. Even at 35 he might be our best reputation DB (after Washington, of course)
  15. Wally was really really desperate. He could have cut Banks outright but he got a 3rd, 4th or 5th cdn WR for him. Poblah was crap in Wpg. but BC might give him an environment to be mediocre to average. 15 to 24 receptions would be a good return for a guy they were gonna get rid of anyways!
  16. I sense Jim Popp is also on "rubber legs"....
  17. Willy is a classic drop back guy with quick release. He doesn't muck around - just fires the ball to open spots and established windows. Hall takes a bit more time, isn't as quick getting into throwing position and tends to wrong foot a lot of his tosses due to time constraints. Definitely the weakest arm on the team although he's pretty good tossing 10 to 20 yd affairs. Brohm was just off last night. Timing, routes, broken routes, etc. Marve had some superb moments including lugging the ball for a long gain.
  18. Consensus. Closely followed by Rae & Jerrys, Hys, 529 (if you like $55 steaks)
  19. Just shy of 25k at last count iirc. Is 8,500+ empty seats a cause for concern? Or did the construction on Pembina Hwy and the ticket prices keep fans away? It looked more like 27 or 28,000 on TV but TSN is instructed NOT to show big gaps of empty chairs!
  20. What was the attendance last nite? FP doesn't seem to have a box score on their website!
  21. Brohm and Hall were all-pro hobos last night. Hall is durable and can serve as a 3rd stringer/mentor to Willy.
  22. Walby said Bombers have to fish or cut bait on Pencer. Guy has two massive knee supports plus a bum shoulder. Another busted Joe Mack pick. Tarver is just training camp fodder/garbage. Should be cut today or tomorrow. Cory Watson is a solid WR w/ blocking potential but Walby said how many more games (or years) can the team wait until the guy plays regularly. Miss him as a secondary blocker as this current o-line is putrid, Just putrid. I suspect Walters will drag along with Watson thru most of this season and make decision at end of year. Brohm should be given the broom. Another brokedown NFL hobo.
  23. What was his beverage of choice? Not that it matters! Maybe time to recall Maggy Kelly from purgatory!!!???
  24. Bubba "Doug" Brown in the bullpen warming up!
  25. Yes, Kelekis closing was a sad day in Winnipeg history. Santa Lucia has a nice order of lasagna for $10,95 when you pick it up. Hard to finish the entire thing. Good for 2.
