BLOCKBUSTER: Walby Joins TSN 1290

Keilback occasionally does Manitoba Junior Hockey games from Selkirk with his old sports buddy Scott Taylor on color. They're actually very good. Brian Munz could learn a few lessons. I find Munz very mechanical and an extremely poor story-teller when it comes to Jet broadcasts. -

TSN Off-Season Game Plan: Winnipeg Jets

The Jets have to fish or cut bait on Kane. If he goes another year as Jets top mope he won't fetch a 3rd or 4th rounder. Now is the time to get somethin' for the guy and trade him to another conference. I think Kane fans are truly in the minority for the first time. -

I want one, too! Could we put a picture of the MorningBigBlue clock on them? You know, the clock that never has the right time! I don't want my acronym on the back. Too many folks like Lord Lyle and Jeff "Slash" Bannon still have warrants out for me! Hopefully, not pricing them at 'Roman from Wild Planet' nut-rates!!!! -
Minimum 2, probably 3. And the odd game they might go as high as 4, especially if Morley looks really old and The Goose is still a few games or a season away from starting.

Madani: CFLPA Recommends Strike Vote To Members
Nasty Nate replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Strange indeed. I suspect they were either talking about selective strikes prior to televised games or trying to talk membership into accepting a last ditch CFL offer (perhaps a 3 to 5% bump on the cap) -

In Winnipeg the radio presenters are pretty feeble. Ace Burpee is actually top drawer but he only plays sugar pop over at Virgin radio so I can't stomach it. Charles Adler is the so-called highest paid due in Wpg radio but his pedantic fascist rants are nerve-grating. On Saturday & Sunday mornings CBC radio has an old pro named Terry Manure on the air. Lots of good interviews and pleasant chat. On the college stations I like Bird over at CJUM 101.5 (a rapper who goes by the name Bird a Pres), Handsome Darren Zorniak on CKUW Saturday afternoons doing psycho-billy and the great man John Einarson (author of many books on music and rock) doing Saturday mornings on CJUM 101.5 10am to noon. Hefty Hal Anderson was OK at CJOB until Adler had him canned! -
TSN Off-Season Game Plan: Winnipeg Jets

I know i said buff, but i'd suspect that kane would actually be the guy moving in that deal, so essentially the lw marchand replaces the lw kane. OK, then I'd go for Marchand and B's 1st round pick (28th or 29th overall) and maybe one of the B's developmental players (goalie or stay at home d-man). The ironic thing is that Kane will continue to be a flunky should he stay in Wpg but only gets better if he's traded to a major program. -
Where are they finding these guys? Uniform-fillers.com?

TSN Off-Season Game Plan: Winnipeg Jets

Marchand interests me a lot. He's the ultimate rat. Don't know how a rat would fit into a new group of guys, thats the only problem. I know he had more goals than Mighty Kane so he not only can agitate he can be downright productive. Thats enticing. But I'd want Boston's 1st and 3rd rd picks, too. P.S. What line would you team Ratchand with? Certainly not Kane!!! -

I agree. Troy is very well prepared and earnest. He suffers from a non-traditional voice (high) but that hasn't stopped Vienna Boys Choir grad Chris Cuthbert, has it? Troy's biggest problem at 1290 is being teamed with a selfish bugger named Matt Leibl. Here's a guy with little to no sports radio experience, and his sole purpose at 1290 seems to be making his fellow cast members look inadequate or weak. He seldom (almost never) puts other talent over. The managers at 1290 realized this earlier in the week when they took Leibl off the Hussler & Lawless program. Leibl paired with Lawless was just like oil and water. NO CHEMISTRY WHATSOEVER. -

Moore is not much younger than Old Bob. Bob is 65 or 66 (Scott Taylor had a column on him) but I think he'll run out the string for the next 4 or 5 years before TSN wipes out CJOB's sports coverage. Buchko used to be GM of CJOB so he arranged a behind the back sweetheart deal as part of his ascension to Bomber CEO. Geoff Currier is not the answer either - he's late 50s or early 60s. And if you've ever listened to Jimbozo Toth do U of M games on Shaw or other media, that guy is right in there with the worst of Rod Black or John Wells, perhaps worse! -
Carlos & Murphy has nice beer but the food and service is weak. Last time i was at Luxalune's the food was OK but it was lunch-time. Haven't been to Crepe place. Unburger, agreed is wildly inconsistent - the meat is never checked for proper cooking. Last time I got a pink-eyed special when I asked for it medium well. I'm sure it will go down in flames (pun intended) in short order (can't help myself) with its awful product and high prices. Stellas has started having quality control problems (anticipated) as they grow to gigantic proportions. The Sherbrook loc. is still OK but poor parking options, lots of tow trucks and steadily increasing prices have resulted in 300-400 folks a day going thru vs. 600 to 750 (I know one of the veteran servers there who relies on tips which are down a third) - Stellas Osborne Village outlet is a crowded affair thats busy from 7am to 2pm but tends to die after 3. I like their club sandwich and salad with is only $12.50 including tax.

Pens: Shero Fired, Brisson In?

I think Torturella (Torts) is gonna have to sit at least one year out. He's being paid handsomnly as he sucked Vancouver into a 5 yr x 2 million/yr contract guarantee. Still has 8 million (or settlement value) left on his deal. Prolly does what Torts does best - talk hockey on either TSN or Sportsnet panels. Actually, I think he'd be a decent color commentator with the right pbp man (ie. NOT COLE) -

There's some bad construction going on near IGF. Started this week. I'm sure it won't end by Monday. Prepare to add at least 15 minutes to your commute to the stadium. -
Well, Ace Burpee is a well-known and respected radio broadcaster. I don't know how he can tolerate the level of anger and vehemence towards his first foray into the burger biz.

TSN Off-Season Game Plan: Winnipeg Jets
Nasty Nate replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Ladd is the x-factor on the Jets imho. He's a great team guy, good interview, great in the room (according to reports), durable and he can score 2nd or 3rd line goal production. However, he's plodingly slow, his decision-making in the neutral zone is suspect and he takes more than his fair share of stupid penalties. I think his above average production is boosted by always playing with the best players (ie. Wheeler, Little, Kane). Team Canada didn't even want any part of him when they sent that 'B' or 'C+' squad to the worlds. One would think a guy with Ladd's superior resume would have been welcome on that squad. -
My information initially had him down as the founder. Upon further examination he could be deemed 'an investor'. Due to the putrid reviews of the place Ace has obviously decided to refrain from doing PR for the place - heck he might have decided to sell back his share of the thing!

TSN Off-Season Game Plan: Winnipeg Jets
Nasty Nate replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Actually when you look at the final 4 of this year's NHL playoffs (elite teams) you can easily make the case either of the Jets so-called 1 or 2 lines would be 2b to 3 lines on those four teams! So we can fool ourselves to think we've got #1 lines but in reality when confronted by superior checking they're just frustrated players who can't get the job done! -
I guess folks wait inordinate amounts of time at BDI cuz its one of the few places service is actually good to great in Wpg. When I hear the horror stories about Market Burger, Unburger, Tim's, Tony Romo's, Original Joes, etc. I'm glad I'm not burning money in these places.

Irving goes to away games alone. When the bombers are away the pre and post game shows kinda suck atrocious. Brown tries to anchor the deal - and if not Brown its Kelly Moore or The Joker Jim Toth. Toth & Moore have no real insight into football. Moore is a great hockey guy and Joker is just well - a Joker.... I suspect CJOB is re-jigging their pre and post game plans now that TSN announced Walby coming aboard. Irving, Brown, Zalnasky (who's about 74) plus they'll mix in Bob Cameron, maybe Geoff Currier. CJOB or TSN would be smart to hand over a segment to morningbigblue...... and let us go at it from a fan's perspective! -
Drove by the BDI last nite. Only about 100 folks waiting in line with 2 serving windows. I suspect those at the back might be waiting 45 minutes to over an hour. But thats their prerogative! I hate waiting 10 or 15 minutes in a Timmy or Mickey D drive-thru. (especially when the car(s) in front of me can't get their order straight or find a common language to communicate with the order-taker)

Big Bluto will be doing extensive pre and post game shows on TSN 1290 air this year (assuming we have a season) Joining Troy Westwood and Darren Bauming. This puts an incredible amount of heat on Bob Irving, who at 66 might not want to host a 2 hour pre-game and 2 hour post game in addition to doing 3 hours of play by play. CJOB's pre-game show is kinda tired. I'll certainly give TSN 1290 a try.
