  1. What would you have done if you were the CFL? Just curious.
  2. Maybe they'll be fine but I wouldn't say they have one of the best offensive lines in the league. Way too early to say that. I would agree. I really like Ottawa's line, but they are young. Young players make mistakes. Offensive line is one of those areas where mistakes cost big. Kind of compare it to Hamilton about 5 or 6 years ago, they allowed the most sacks in the league over two years by quite a bit, but they were a little bit green with their youth. Hage, Dyakowski, they drafted Rottier in 2009, added Goodspeed and Gauthier from the Bombers - Goodspeed had an all-star year at tackle. They dropped their sack totals significantly from 2008 to 2009 by adding some solid veteran presence to that line. Sort of the idea behind adding Jon Gott, I feel.
  3. Why would you say that? CFL first overall picks are pretty much a joke. Let's look at the last few of them: 2013 Gaydosh 2012 Heenan 2011 Muamba 2010 Williams 2009 Rottier 2008 Barker 2007 Baumann 2006 Braidwood 2005 Robede I see only two every-down CFL players in there -- Heenan and Muamba. Everyone else is at best marginal, or in Gaydosh's case, busy in the NFL. To be quite honest and stretch that a bit further, a slight majority of first round picks as a whole don't work out. Of course a significant portion of that is due to the NFL in the past years. Now things are starting to even out, so first round picks are becoming less of a gamble. Talent is getting better, players are transitioning from special teams and sub packages to actually starting, so it's good.
  4. Ti-Cats hired Tillman as a consultant last March.
  5. James Lee, Nate Menkin and Jeraill McCuller will compete for two tackle spots I would imagine. They have a couple Canadians who can kick out, but I foresee a pair of imports. Lee and Menkin are my favourites to win... both good players. They'll be fine.
  6. I like the Redblacks offensive line, but they are a little green too, so the move brings on a veteran leader who has been around and won a Grey Cup.
  7. As it turns out he may get away with the QB glitch, but, in my view, I don't know that what he gained in Burris over Glenn was worthwhile, considering he could have had two FA starters for the money he paid Burris. But that's an old story. Desjardins may have got away with it, but then he did trade away a 1st rd. draft pick and the rights to another player for only a roster player, so does that start the talk that-he's-an-idiot on again? I wonder who he could have had from the Stamps in the expansion draft if they didn't take Glenn? Would that haul have been more impressive that Pruneau? Perhaps, but no real guarantee that Burris chooses Ottawa over Winnipeg. Glenn was assurance at the time. On the flip side, it allowed them to protect two extra Canadians. That is the area that would intrigue me most as to who they could have picked over J'Micheal Deane.
  8. Crosby has scored 1 goal in the Penguins last three playoff series. He's going to start getting that label.
  9. Maybe. Having Shologan and quality DB's in Fraser and Pruneau will allow them the flexibility to start 1 Canadian WR if they so choose. They can get by no problem with 7 starters... it is the depth as you mention where they need a little more clarity.
  10. Agree, disagree, I moved Washington to safety on my depth chart at one point throughout the off-season. Randle - Sears - Washington - Suber - Canadian Just as easy to put Sears at safety too. Options.
  11. Buono did wait out Desjardins, and the trade value shot down. If Desjardins doesn't trade out from #1, the value is still probably the same. Marcel knew he had to get back in, and that was his best move. Sure, they miss out on Pruneau, but would have had Lue at #10.
  12. Walters traded up to get a guy in their Top 10 at pick 17. It's a fantastic move and one that a veteran GM would make. In his first draft, Walters looked wise beyond his years. His previous experience at the CIS level and having studied closely clearly benefited him.
  13. My rankings for the players selected: Briggs - 9th Goossen - 11th Jones - 18th Everett - 57th Eisho - 59th Some were concerned that Briggs on-field play wasn't as good as his testing numbers should indicate... his numbers are almost an exact replica of Mike Edem's, and Edem played in a much better system in Calgary. Briggs while his stats may not have been as good, would have been a better off in a better defence. Guaranteed. This is a fantastic pick that they didn't think was possible and justifiably traded up to get him. Everyone knows about how I feel about Goossen if you have been reading my posts for the past month, so I won't go further on him. Jones is another outstanding pick and infact one of my top picks in the draft all things considered, factoring in where you picked him and what he can produce. You're talking a guy who is a Top 20 player in this draft and you get him at 29... and as Rids said, he played in the NCAA where they are a little more pro ready than the CIS and he can step in and make an impact if called upon. Quinn Everett is interesting. I had him as my 9th ranked offensive lineman. The Bombers announced the pick as a DT. Here we are talking about a guy who tested better than Matthias Goossen, and just about every other offensive lineman at the regional combine. Obviously there is more to it than numbers, but when you have a guy who can move like he can and is over 300 pounds... you salivate over that. Now you just find a spot for him. Aram Eisho is an interesting guy as well... yes, he didn't run that fast... 5.1 40 time, but his 3-cone and shuttle were among the best at his position, and when you're talking about a guy in the open field, what do you want more... can he chase down the guy, or can he move quickly enough to bring him down if the players tries to make a move? Compare it to a cornerback... if you run 4.8 or 4.9 and have a 4.4 shuttle or something like that, yes, you may have to give a bigger cushion so as not to get beat deep, but you can react quickly and make a play on a short pattern. Obviously it is easy to talk good about 65 players, and it is easy to smile at your draft class, but overall, I think the Bombers - for once - have an opportunity to truly develop some talent here.
  14. I think once they didn't get their guy they packed it in on round one. Wally's first plan was to trade to 2 but Walters didn't go for it.
  15. I've never heard of this Hecht character. Is he even a lock to make the team? He was the backup to Fraser last year... not sure what their plan is right now but he would be in line to compete with MacDougall for the spot at this very moment.
  16. Briggs, Jones and Goossen were all in my Top 20. Everett is a project, Eisho will be ST.
  17. Jeff Hecht, Calgary Stampeders safety was quite critical of Quinn Smith after his positive test... will be interesting to see how that goes over.
  18. I've stated my stance throughout the process, but Walters and O'Shea were non-committal to him starting right away, so tough to gauge what they feel. I came away that they feel he will need some time.
  19. Hage knows all about Desjardins... they were in Hamilton together, and I wouldn't be surprised if he had rubbed him the wrong way at one point or another.
  20. Great move if it is. They have Hecht/MacDougall right now, and I'm not sure either is capable.
  21. Something triggered this if they take Lavertu. Perhaps Federkeil is retiring too. Bryant - Peach - Jones/Lav - Lav/Jones - Wilson Edit: They also have Craighead... Five Canadians... Bryant going somewhere?
  22. I wouldn't put it past Hufnagel to trade for Lavertu and kick him or Jones to guard and really bolster the line. I don't think the Bombers are safe yet.
  23. So Ottawa is comfortable with Krausnick, as I figured they might be... Gott can play centre too though.
