Little,Perreault and Buff should all come back when they are healthy, 100 percent healthy really. Believe they said 2-4 weeks with Buff, has it even been 2 yet? Perreault won't be back until early april at the earliest i'd imagine, Chiarot had a broken hand and surgery so still gonna be a while there i think, might be the guy that returns last actually. Be nice to get them back but right now, playing so well that i'd be a little cautious and hold them out until they are truly 100 percent healthy or as close as they can be to it actually.

I agree that PAV could start every game down the stretch but we do play Chicago again and Hutch seems to have their number this season so I'd probably give him a shot there. Pav tho is the guy right now, we are 3-0 in our last 3 games, they weren't pushover teams either, tbay, st louis and washington, Why would anybody want to screw with what's working right now? It makes no sense, as for little and buff, nope, they won't be play tonight or tomorrow, maybe the week-end tho but again, if it aint broke, don't fix it. Be nice to have those 2 back but.. the team is 5-2 in their last 7 games, most of them without buff and little.

The Wild Card race aka hockey's Final Four
Goalie replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Leafs are bound to win eventually, why not tonight lol. Honestly of all the games tonight, the teams i could see losing are Minny and LA. But i think if Minny loses, the Jets do too. The Jets/Wild spot is probably gonna come down to who wins that game a couple weeks from now, Jets vs Wild will be a huge game coming up. -
Hey KBF. Did ya hear it snowed in Winnipeg?
Goalie replied to tacklewasher's topic in General Discussion
Meh, it could be worse, it's like what? 2 cm's, some more is expected but this is nothing compared to what places like Alberta, SASK, the maritimes have gotten. Heck even Ontario is like - double digits, i just looked on my phone and at almost 2 pm, it's zero out. -
Mateas stays 1st in Dunks mock, just like before but lots has changed since his last mock. Had Chung going to Winnipeg at 2 last time, now has Groulx.
-
I suppose this could go here but judging by the twitter feed on the side, it's just a matter of time b4 the argos are playing at BMO field, probably for the start of next season it sounds like. That's some great news really.

Oilers aren't a gimme and now is not the time to be screwing around with your goalie rotation, It's really simple, you play the hot hand and right now that's pavelec. Oilers are definitely not a gimme, they have nothing to play for so they are loose and playing quite well recently. Start PAV, sounds like he is starting so that ends that debate really, and if he plays well, you play him again tomorrow. The guy had 3 weeks of rest on the bench, when Hutch started and had a bad game, Maurice went back to Hutch again, why? cuz he was the hot hand, kept getting points. That's what its about right now, every point matters. Play that guy that is getting you those points and right now it's PAV.

I would think maybe hope the goal is that taking a player at 2, there is some hope that he could play this year, maybe not to start the year but definitely should be able to take some reps, make the game day roster even, The one plus to taking, let's just say Demski is he can conceivably play special teams where an oline, well he wouldn't. Demski,Durant whoever, non OL player lets say. I think you hope that he can step in and contribute right away, like i said tho, doesn't need to be as a starter, can be on special teams. It's a tough call, the draft is so stacked i guess with OL prospects that you would think picking at 11 and 15 even that there would be a couple OL guys left to take. Tough call tho, Justin Dunk just did another mock where he has durant falling to 8 and demski falling to the 2nd round, doesn't mean much but sure would be sweet to be able to get Demski at 11, i think if we don't take him at 2 and he's there at 11, it's a no brainer. Just really don't know which way they are leaning with 2. If it was me, i'd want a player who has the ability to play right away, special teams even and maybe later in the year can play regularly on O or D. Still feel that due to the depth of the oline in this years draft class that it's very likely you could see a run in the first round on non OL players with the hopes that some will still be there in the 2nd round.

Pav was the first goalie off the ice, he's on fire right now, I'd play him tonight and if he plays well and we win, I'd play him tomorrow night too. You ride the hot hand, Hutch has been rather average recently, might say below average. Pav is the hot hand, Play him until he loses.

Slater is a ufa and looks just about done. Little Scheif Lowry are a good 1 2 3. Copp if ready or O'Dell even makes sense as the 4th. Petan probably a future 3rd line winger
-
I saw someone say that but I agree that's way too much and nobody will pay that
-
One thing. 8.5 9 million? Who has the cap space. Teams that aren't winning any time soon do. The contenders sure don't.
-
What I mean by luxury is we already have 2 top 4 young rh d men in myers and Trouba. When you think about it you don't need 3. It would be nice but isn't necessary really. Maybe buff can play the left side tho. If not it's pretty tough to give all 3 equal minutes. Well its not, it's just that maybe that 7 million or so would be better spent elsewhere. Perhaps areas where depth isn't as strong as the rhd side. Add in that buff will be 30 and perhaps looking for big term and money. Just saying it might make more sense to upgrade the team elsewhere. Then again who really knows what buff wants. That's the big question. What does buff want. Seems like he likes it here likes being a leader here. He might not like it elsewhere or might not be a leader elsewhere.
-
As long as our starters all don't go down at the same time, i think we should be ok. Then again, how many teams could lose 2 or 3 oline starters at once and be fine? Not many, if any at all.

Difference between Stamkos and OVI tho is stamkos actually hustles back in the play, I'm not knocking OVI, i actually really like the guy, he seems to be a pretty nice down to earth guy, he's just a cherry picker tho. It's cool, Like i said, i'd take a guy who can score 50 on the Jets any time really. Ovi and Stamkos aren't as bad as Kessel tho, I mean at least at times OVI tries to get back in the play to help out Defensively. Kessel doesn't come past the center line very often. I'd take OVI on the Jets in a second, Russian factor? Nah, Cuz then every russian who could score would be a cherry picker, Tarasenko,Malkin but they arent', they are complete 2 way players, OVI isn't really, he's very good tho, he just concentrates more on scoring goals than playing D and that's fine. I guess you can say, OVI is paid to score goals, he's doing that in bunches so he's doing his job really.

He was being heralded as a norris trophy winner by Jets fans. Winning the Norris means nothing, it doesn't mean you are the best D man. It means you are good at putting up points really, Playing D doesn't mean a thing to Norris trophy candidates. D men play D first, buff does not do that. When he wants to be someone said? You realize that is like once every 5 games probably. It would be nice to keep Buff but, not sure why anyone is pretending he's one of the top 10 D men in the league, he's not. Toby is actually better, Myers might be too, Trouba is too, They play D first mostly, That's what you want in your D men. He's not Doughty, He's not Subban, He's not Letang even, He's not OEL in Arizona, He's not really an elite D man, he's a good d man but... he's not elite. lol at questioning peoples hockey knowledge because someone don't think Buff is elite, He's not, what makes anyone think he is? Elite D men don't take games off at a time, Elite d man don't play good D only when they feel like doing it, they do it all the time. People do know what the D stands for right? But if he is elite, then he should get 9 million a year cuz that's what the doughtys and subbans get. That's too rich for the Jets blood i think.

OVI is a huge cherry picker but with that being said, I'd love to have a soon to be 50 goal scorer on the Jets.

The Wild Card race aka hockey's Final Four
Goalie replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Jets Win. 1 point behind minny still but 4 up on LA now. LA has problems. Big problems. They are not gonna make it. Minny and the Jets will -
Huge win. Pav is lights out. I guess you can say like his mask. He's the boss recently. As for stopping ovi all the jets needed was a myers
-
Minny has no cap space to sign guys with suter and Parise being paid a ton. Same issue there tho. Suter and Brodin. Minny wouldn't have much interest I don't think. They have bigger issues then adding yet another rh d man. Jets are 5-2 without buff. Is he really needed that badly? People also need to realize buff ain't that great defensively. Had a good first half but his old habits of pinching at wrong times and not hustling back In the play had reared it's ugly head. Buff is good. He's not elite tho
-
Wheeler is also signed to a decent deal. Boychuk in nyi got 7 years 42 million. How much could buff get. Buff is not the best d man or player on the team. That's crazy talk.
-
They will trade the 30 year old b4 trading the 23 or 24 year old.
-
I believe it's fans and one was Justin Dunk on cfl.ca but I've seen about 5 mock drafts that have the bombers taking sukh Chung with the 2nd overall pick. Just curious but why is Chung the popular pick for the bombers in these mock drafts
-
Yup and that's where little Toby wheeler and Stuart fit. All signed for several years still too
-
I think i see Buff more as a luxury than a necessity. I mean, it would be nice to have him but, if you look at the team and how they are building it, they are building it through youth, draft and develop really, just signed another guy today in jimmy lodge, RW, can score, will look good on the moosecaps next season, but regardless of that, if you look at how they are building the team.. It's through youth, people talk about you build through your centers and D, YUP you sure do.. Scheif,Lowry (2 young centers), Myers,Trouba (2 young d men) Throw in guys like Morrissey who will make people realize that Chiarot is nothing more than a bottom pair d man, throw in a vet like toby and you got yourself a solid top 4 without buff, Heck, even right now this team is winning without buff, They have looked amazing the last 3 games without buff, you don't need buff to win. Buff is a luxury, he's not a necessity and reality might just be that when this young team (oh yeah, they are very young) is actually ready to compete for real, not just take a wild card spot but to legit compete and contend year in year out, guys like Buff,Ladd even, they probably won't be here to see that. This team isn't being built around Ladd and Buff, they are being built around the scheifs, lowrys, troubas, myers, the young guys, i could throw in ehlers, morrissey, petan, guys like that. I guess the hockey news there ran a story about how the winnipeg jets will be stanley cup champs in 2019, nice story but thats what 4 years away? Buff will be almost 35, really think he's the guy they are going to keep over the young guys like myers and trouba? Man, trading buff when his value is the highest would get you something good in return, if Keith Yandle whose contract expires at the same times buff does gets you a 1st and a prospect like duclair,Buff would get you at least that and in the long term, cuz that's what this is about, it's about 2 3 4 5 seasons from now, that helps you more than buff does. Buff is a popular player, he's a good player, he's not one of the best in the league tho, heck, he's not even our own best player, goes MIA for way too long at times, do you pay him like an elite d man or do you trade him this off season when his value is high and get a haul and a half that will help you in a few seasons when you are ready to legit compete. Like it or not, this team, it might make the playoffs (i think they do) but they might not, what if they don't? Gonna try again next year with the same cast of characters that haven't gotten it done for the last 4 or 5 years now? Buff is a good player tho, but he's in that age group where, well, it doesn't really fit in to what the Jets are building actually. I'll take Myers and Trouba in their early 20's over almost 30 year old buff any day. Yup, you build through centers and d man and that's exactly what Chevy has been quietly doing the last couple years (scheif, lowry, trouba, myers) That is your new core right there. The core that will take us to places that we have never been before really, that's the core plus ehlers, morrissey and a couple others that will make us legit contenders year in year out. Let's not pretend that this Jets team has been nothing but average the last few years, this year, they are better than average for sure but... it's really the first year since they have been here that they have been, normally at this time of the Jets past few seasons, we are all talking about who we are taking at the draft with our top 10 pick again. Jets have the best ranked prospect pool in all of hockey they say, what a job Chevy has done really, guy gets blasted for doing nothing but all he did was build the best prospect pool in the league and make the biggest trade in the last 5 years. The new core, that's what we all about, Those are the guys that we will win with, those are the guys that will take us from competing for a wild card spot to competing for a stanley cup and 1st in our division. In a perfect world, yup buff, ladd, stafford, frolik, they all sign new deals and the young guys get their extensions and it's all happy happy joy joy but in the salary cap world that the Jets live in, it don't work like that. You have to make choices and they are tough ones, What to do with Buff is a tough choice, it's not an easy one, but... it's a choice that Chevy will have to make soon, probably this summer, can't lose the guy for nothing if he isn't willing to extend right and can't overpay because you are gonna have to pay your young core some big money soon too. All in all, I'd take the captain over Buff. Only because our LW depth isn't as strong as your RHD depth.
