That's a huge difference too, Back in the Day, it was basically score score score score score and no D, now a days you see a lot more 2-1 3-2 etc type of games because teams are concentrating more on defense now. Goalies are also better, people can talk about the equipment all they want but.. these guys can shoot the puck over 100 miles per hour for gods sake, you need that equipment on and even with it on if it hits you in a specific spot, it stings like crazy. I remember playing a few years ago in a tournament, 16 year old kid took a shot from the point, went down, between the shorts and the top of the pad, when you go down theres a spot that gets exposed a bit, upper leg really, above the knee but not really too far above it, hit me in that spot, went down like i was shot , finished the game in pain, took the equipment off after and i had a bruise the size of a golf ball there, from a 16 year old. Hit me in the soft spot really is what i called it. No protection there. Couldn't imagine if that was a PRO doing that. Defense tho and goaltenders just being better, they are more advanced now, positionally stronger than they were in the past even, makes a huge difference. Personally, i like the 2-1 games more than the 6-5 games. The best game of the Jets season, one could argue it was their most recent game against st Louis, what a game really, hitting, chances at both ends, outstanding game. 1-1 through regulation and OT. Great game tho. Players have evolved, D men are bigger, they are better, forwards are better, not neccesarily bigger tho, goaltenders are indeed bigger and are much much better, 6'3 goalies plus are the norm these days, back in the day, were there any goalies even 6'3?

If you listened to Maurice talk about Tlusty he compared him to Frolik, He's probably a cheaper version of Frolik. Frolik will be looking to get paid this off season and the reality with Frolik is, when everyone is healthy, he is a 3rd liner. Jets can't afford to pay him probably what he wants, well they could but... Buff and Ladd need extensions, Schief Trouba and Lowry will all need them too. There is only so much money to go around. Frolik at 3.5 million? sure. Frolik over 4 million, i don't think so. Another way to look at Frolik is... Perreault signed a 3 year 9 million dollar contract with the Jets this past off-season. 3 million a year for Matty P. Frolik is good depth but he's not a guy that you are gonna break the bank for. Got some youngsters on the way too, Calling it now, Ehlers will be on this team next season. He's got nothing left to prove in Junior. Petan might be too. Can't sign them all and while Frolik is a good player, If Tlusty according to the coach is similar to Frolik and a lot cheaper, I could see Frolik going.

I'm gonna say it, but Chicago is a team that i could see struggling down the stretch too, They are without Patrick Kane now and their D leaves lots to be desired, Jets aren't far back of them actually, 4 points i think. Calgary seems to be struggling a bit right now too, LA is in, Reality is if Jets were in the Pacific Division, they would be second behind Anaheim. Vancouver will be without Miller for a long time now too, Calgary could very well take Vancouvers Spot. The way i see, Advantage: Winnipeg for the 1st wild card spot. Why? because they hold it right now and just need to keep picking up points like they have been doing.

Stafford is a guy they have been high on for some time now, Honestly if i was a betting man, I'd say they sign Stafford and Let Frolik walk.

Biggest question about lefevour is if he is going to be as effective running the ball now. That made him dangerous. Pretty severe injury to recover from.

Lapo has potential as an OC, as a head coach, i think he leaves lots to be desired. I remember them showing LAPO trying to rah rah the team at the start of some games, and i just can't see how a guy who... let's go out there OK boys Ok and Ok and play ok with all ok our heart ok and ok ok ok can be a good leader. Lapo as an OC? good. Lapo as a head coach? Probably not so good.

It's not so much skill as it is compete i think, I don't know, I can't put my finger on it, think it's crazy to say that a guy who made it to the NHL lacks skill... it's something else. Effort? Compete? Heart even?

There are some rumors out there that the Jets and Sharks are talking about a Pavelec for Niemi deal. THere is also talk that the Jets are talking to the coyotes about Pavelec for Mike Smith too. I'd lean towards the Niemi one personally as Smith has lots of time remaining on his deal and hasn't been so good, altho he plays for a bad team. I'd say 50/50 Pavelec gets moved, heck 60/40 let's say even. I think it speaks volumes with the Jets starting Hutch tonight and maurice when asked for the reasoning said his last 4 games, he's got points in. Think Pavelec moves if a team is willing to take him. That's the big question really.

I guess, all i'll say here is.... if you look at some of the guys mentioned here, Peach, Walter, etc.. Those guys were taken pretty late in the draft, which actually means many teams, actually all of them passed on them multiple times too. Wasn't there a rumor with Walter only wanting to go to Calgary? Not sure but... things like that probably played a role there, it's not like Matt Walter would be starting here either, he'd just be a special team player. I mean, i get some of them, Etienne etc, Pencer, but... the guys taken later in the draft, can't really fault mack or walters for that when every other team passed them over multiple times also. And when you actually think about Peach and Walter, both Calgary Picks.. so that means every GM in the league is an idiot other than Hufnagel i guess?

They have Lack and Markstrom i believe and a youngster in the NCAA, Demko maybe? I'd looking at moving Pavelec, but i don't think the Canucks are a team that would be interested in him. I'm thinking teams like Carolina, maybe for Cam Ward? Edmonton? Fasth? (but he's injured). I really don't see many other teams having interest in him. Carolina makes sense because well, Ward only has a year left on his deal and he's being paid quite a bit, 6 million i think but... for 1 year, it might be worth it. Edmonton? Because well, it was rumored they had interest in Pavelec in the off-season last year.
