TSN Off-Season Game Plan: Winnipeg Jets
Goalie replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
You serious here? Petan is an undersized skilled centre, ehlers is 5'11 and a left or right winger.. What the heck you smoking here? I like petan too but... The only similarties are skiled forwards with speed. They play different positions even, hell petan was taken in the 2nd round, ehlers with the 9th overall.. I'm sorry but thats a ridiculous statement to make, petan has to flame out in order for ehlers to get a real chance? Not at all, seriously, how the hell did you come to this conclusion? are you basing this on Nate being wrong again and saying ehlers is a centre when in fact he's a left wing but can play the right side too? I'll take this one step further, Little is signed long term, scheif aint going anywhere, perreault was just signed to a 3 year deal.. Those are our top 3 centres moving forward (next 3 years at least). Petan isn't close to be NHL ready, he will spend significant time in st johns, actually based on them signing perreault, you can say petan is 3 years away unless they move him to the wing, which they might. Ehlers is a winger, not a centre. -

If Ehlers plays anything more than a handful of exhibition games something is terribly wrong in Jetsville. He's just not big and strong enough to withstand capital punishment in the league. If he shows a bit in the exhibitions they might do the same thing as they did with Schief - give him a handful of real NHL games and then send him back to Halifax. He's got the whole summer to get bigger but the Jets never rush their prospects, he might play a handful of games with the club this season, not enough so his ELC kicks in though and they will send him back down to Halifax like they did with Scheif going back to Barrie, Trouba going to Michigan and Morissey staying in Prince Albert. -
That should put and end to all the reimer crap.

This should put an end to all that reimer crap The new No. 2 'tender in Winnipeg. RT @BrownScottTN: #NHLJets agree to terms with goalie @mhutch34 on two-year deal worth $1.15 million. -

very interesting. For 1 year $2.5 million, Im surprised the Jets didnt bring him back... Well, he probably wanted more to remain here. Jets moved on and glad they did. They upgraded him too, perreault had the same amount of points in 15 less games and is 10 years younger. Jokinen never really lived up to his 4.5 million a year contract. Glad he is gone. -
I'm glad the jets decided to move on. Good riddance really. had a decent year last year but perreault had the same amount of points as jokinen and played 15 less games. Perreault is an upgrade. Jokinens best days are behind him. He's turrible at faceoffs also. Couldn't win a faceoff to save his life. Glad we moved on from him. 2.5 million for a 4th centre or really the 5th centre doesn't make sense at all for us.

Jets actually are going to go to arbitration with frolik although i dont think it will come to that, they did the same thing with frolik they did with bogo little and wheeler. I'm not sure what its called but he will be a jet next season for sure, and probably for 3 or 4 more years, both want a "long term" contract from my understanding, the jets doing what they did is just a way to make sure frolik is a jet next season, but like i said, i suspect he will sign for 3 or 4 years.

That would be because Austin probably would have to admit he made a mistake signing collaros, would have loved to see it, imagine if lefevour or masoli went in and actually moved the ball? not saying signing collaros is a mistake but if you were austin and stubborn like he appears to be, would you want to pull your prized free agent in the first game and see the guys you decided to not go with as starter do better than he did? Actually, Duane Forde mentioned it too. He said they aren't because he (Collaros) needs to work with the offense more, the game is lost anyway so may as well get more reps in. As we talked about in the TC thread - TC is too short and Collaros (and Smith) need more reps. If it's game 4 or later, for sure they are pulled. Yeah i heard him say that, I'm just not buying it, they had nothing to gain leaving him in, he got sacked 10 times, could have been hurt easily, what is there to gain playing him in garbage time? yeah he moved the ball but that's when sask backed off considerably. I just don't see the point keeping him in to get him killed out there.. 10 sacks against, that's insane, If i was coach, i'd have pulled him and told him, it's not because of you, it's because i dont want you to be killed in week 1.
-
Yup. Teams like Chicago Boston and Philly are over or near the cap with lots of players still to sign. Said it in the other thread, wouldn't shock me to see jets go after a guy like sharp, bickell, read even or maybe even marchand. They could be had for draft picks and maybe the rights to burmistrov, they can't take anybody with money back on their contracts, so its futures or rights to a player.
-
After one game, the reminder already comes? I'll give you this if it's the same mid-season. I dunno man, that hamilton oline looked pretty awful and sask was only send 4 guys if that most times. Collaros didn't look good. I think its likely he does struggle this season. Hamiltons Oline will be their downfall. They just lost one of the guys to injury too.

With Little and Scheifele here, i don't think he'd be a 2 centre here. Not sure if he'd go back there but.. Nashville seems to lack centre depth, he'd probably be a good fit there.

I agree with you there MBRG. It's a smart way to do things, just got caught up a bit yesterday in the "frenzy". In Jets "related" news, Olli Jokinen signs 1 year 2.5 million deal with Nashville. -
who wouldn't skip work to be there for the birth of their daughter, seriously, non issue. If this turns in to another Andrew Ladd thing with Westwood, and i think it might...man, come on. Family is way more important.

Nashville didn't do much, Colorado actually might have got a bit worse losing stastny and picking up Iginla, If Varlamov don't play like he did last season, Colorado could be in a bit of trouble. Jets will probably compete for a wild card spot. -
I think what you will see is a trade with a team for a top 6 player to play with ladd and little, bumping frolik down to the third line to play with perreault. A team like Boston (Marchand), Chicago (Sharp)(Bickell), Philly (Read). These are 3 teams that are over (chicago is over the cap), philly and boston are close and need to sign plenty of players still. I think that's what Chevy meant. I don't see Vrbata Legwand or Riberio coming here (Riberio has the same problem malone has and was bought out so he can seek treatment, that's not a guy TNSE would go after EVER) Because those teams are over or near the cap, something like rights to Burmistrov plus draft pick in next years draft (3rd round,4th round etc type stuff)

I think you are correct, i wonder if they worry that their fan base is too fickle and won't allow them to have a proper re-build. They may not be calling it a re-build, but i think that's what it is eventually going to have to become. Canucks aren't good enough, they just aren't. Their window has closed. -
I didn't think you could take quarterbacks actually? Can you? If so that may change my selection but.. I'm going to go with Clarence Denmark.

I don't know what to think about this game. I think Winnipeg pulls off the win, But i don't think it will be as lopsided as last weeks game, It could be though. Not sure what to expect from Ottawa, Really have no clue at all. They will probably be pretty competitive but if they get some injuries, they will be in trouble. Think Torontos Oline on paper is better then Ottawas so Winnipeg should be able to get pressure on Henry and if they do, i suspect it might be a long night for the Redblacks, Honestly, i remember going to a renegades game several several years ago, bombers absolutely smoked them. Put up 40 plus points on them, i could see that happening again actually but... in my heart i feel this game will be closer. Think Winnipeg wins but i'm thinking something like 34-20. Maybe a late touchdown by Ottawa to make the game seem closer then it actually was. Kind of like what Toronto did last week. I like what i saw from Winnipeg in week 1, if they play like that this week, they should win. Play like that most weeks and they should win. I think because the game is at IGF, bombers win. Just a feeling i have but i feel the bombers will be very good at home this season.

niskanen is actually pretty good but not worth what they paid him, that orpik deal made me sick to my stomach. If anyone needs a few examples of why the jets dont get involved much in the frenzy, actually, it's pretty much the same teams every year involved in the frenzy and where do they end up normally? watching the playoffs just like the jets, but niskanens contract, orpiks contract and bollands contract and i'm gonna say jussi jokinens contract (he's not a spring chicken anymore) are prime examples. Last year, the leafs signed clarkson to a what 7 year 35 million deal, where did that get them? below the jets in the standings. These moves sometimes backfire on teams. I'd even go as far as to say that most these "frenzy" day deals don't work out at all in the end. Oh and Ryan Miller, i think it's a good move for the Canucks, i do but... Miller couldn't get the job done with a much better St Louis team, not sure why the Canucks gave him 6 million a year, this isn't 2010 Ryan Miller. -
Just started watching OITNB on netflix and i have to admit, i have become addicted. I love it, it's a great show, don't even care about the nudity, it's just a good show with a great cast, donna from that 70's show, jason biggs and another girl from american pie and taylor shilling is just fantastic. Love it, Honestly just started watching it 2 days ago and i'm already done season 1. I think it's just a great show. It's funny, its entertaining, it's witty, it has good stories, it's wonderful. Really liked OZ when it was on, OITNB i dont think is comparable to OZ, only common thing there is both are set in prisons but outside of that, they are very different. Enjoy(ed) them both.

A- for the draft A for letting Wright, Halischuk, and Ellerby walk to FA D- for signing Thorburn (upgraded to a C+ when compared to other contracts signed today) B+ for upgrading our 3C for relatively cheap All in all not so bad. -

i gotta ask, 7 years 40.2 million for niskanen who had one good year with a stacked penguins team, 5 ++ for orpik, 5 for bolland, 2.9 for engeylund What was the point of the lockout again? -
TSN Off-Season Game Plan: Winnipeg Jets
Goalie replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Agreed. I don't think the Jets will ever be that active on the "frenzy" day, i mean some of these contracts handed out are crazy, i don't see how some would help the Jets actually. Bolland got 5 million a year for 5 years, that's not something that would help the Jets. Stastny got 7 million a year, again, with little and scheif, i'm not sure how that helps. jesus, 7 years 40.2 million for niskanen to washington. My god. This is the reason why the Jets aren't involved much today. Wheres there press conference. Some of these teams though like buffalo and florida need to spend big money to get to the cap floor. Some of these teams need to win now, do the Jets? not really, richards to chicago also.. puts chicago over the cap actually. It's a crazy day. We are indeed building around our younger guys.. You mentioned Kane, Scheif.. I'll throw in Trouba,Bogo, Good call with lowry and morissey. Ehlers is another guy, probably not this year but... down the line, we might look pretty good. I like what we are building here, i guess its just a bit frustrating to see other teams throwing out money at all these big name players and us doing not much but i understand the logic behind it. Like i said above, short term pain for long term gain. Oh and one more thing, nobody makes the playoffs on July 1st. We probably aren't a guaranteed playoff team, actually we aren't but with a couple upgrades or the kids stepping up, we could compete for a wild card spot. we weren't that far out of the wildcard spot last season. -

Goalie replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
FA price vs. RFA price. Just wait what is it one more year? and Toews and Kane will be making way more than Statsny. Salaries go up all the time, that's why teams will try and lock people up to long term deals if they feel they're worth it. Overpay in the short term hoping it works out in the long term. more often then not though, these free agent frenzy deals don't work out. -

Weren't you the same guy complaining about Chevy not signing huge names? Lol not really, i was just hoping he would do something to make the team better, as if anyone actually thought the big names would come here, yeah it would have been nice but reality is, it wont happen, not until we start winning, i was more complaining about the thorburn deal. tough to get excited when you see what the other teams in our division did. Never did expect the jets to sign any "big names". Show me a post where i thought they would, i said the other teams in our division will. Didn't say we will. Oh and btw, maybe thorburns deal aint so bad, calgary just signed a similar player to a contract worth 2.9 million a year.
