TSN Off-Season Game Plan: Winnipeg Jets
Goalie replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Why do people say this? what do people expect the Jets to do? a non playoff team/ sign a bunch of free agents? that's not how it works, The jets have dipped in to the free agent pool a couple times already, glass and jokinen are 2. Montoya is another. They have made trades, they traded for frolik and setogucci. It's not like they have just stood still since they got here but it seems some seem to think they should be doing more? Is that it? How do you do more though? They made offers to players, they made an offer to parise, they made an offer to mason raymond last season too. It's not like they are just sitting back and watching the leaves grow on trees. They have made moves, just cuz people refuse to accept them or expect more, doesn't mean they didn't. They haven't made any huge moves but what teams have really? name 3. and how has those moves worked out of them? LA doesn't count cuz the rumor at the time was philly wanted kane or and burmi for richards so that wasn't gonna happen. I know people want to win now but for gods sake, do some research and understand where this team was when they were brought here not even 3 full seasons ago. Look where they are now, not just the main roster but the ahl team, the prospects. They have done lots, just cuz they haven't gone out and made a huge move for some guy that people thinks will make us instantly compete doesn't mean they aren't doing anything. And yeah i'm gonna go here, this team is a young team all in all, the scheifs troubas heck bogos kanes even littles and guys like that are all still pretty young, they are one of the youngest teams in the league, you remove jokinen and their average age drops significantly, with a young team comes growing pains... it is what it is. There is no magic beans out there that will instantly make you compete. What i see here is a few people wanting to mortgage the future just so we can make the playoffs one year and be swept.. I don't want that, i want a team that when they make the playoffs, they have a chance. And as much as one guy or maybe 2 or 3 at most thinks one guy can and will be the difference, he wont be. That's not how it works. -
Like i said before, i like the design, it's a cool looking building but the roof does have that toilet bowl look to it.

Are these good times though or are teams still barely making profits? People need to keep in mind, leave ottawa out of this, they are brand new, we dont know if they will make money or lose a ton of money But what we do know is BC broke even apparently ,edmonton turned a 1.9 million profit, sask is gonna turn a large profit, winnipeg turned a 2.9 million profit... What about Toronto? lost millions, hamilton? lost millions? montreal? rumors are they lost money or just barely broke even. Calgary? i dont know actually. let's assume they made a tiny profit also. 8 teams, 3 for sure made money, a tiny amount really, under 3 million. 3 definitely lost money. 1 we arent sure about... Is the league as strong as people think actually? There seems to be an issue with the new tv deal, for some reason people seem to think teams are getting millions upon millions upon millions out of it, they arent tho, they are only getting a couple million each are they not? This isn't the NFL where each team is getting 100's of millions, they are getting in some cases enough to cover what they lost. Is the league really in good times? Just cuz we got new stadiums coming and a new team and a new tv deal dont mean the good times are rolling. -
Donald Sterling....And Mark Cuban
Goalie replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in General Discussion
I guess when you are a billionaire who owns sports teams, you need to watch what you say. Doesn't really matter if any of us said what these guys did, it wouldn't be that big of a deal but when people in the public limelight/spotlight start spouting off, Well... This is what happens. It is what it is. Turns out money cant solve all your problems after all. I don't have an issue with what Cuban said, i think he's being honest and i'll be the first to admit, that i would probably do the same thing.. however, i'd probably do the same thing if a white tatood up skinhead was walking on my side of the street too. Nothing against blacks or whites or anyone really, just... sometimes, you do get a vibe about certain people and yup... I dont know about any of you but i live in an area that is dominated by white people with young families. If i saw a black guy in a hoodie walking down my street, some suspicion would creep in. Same goes for a white skinhead type too tho. We just don't have those people in this area of the "city". -
Somewhat surprised here about Peach but... like Howard said there, did have 3 sacks in 6 games, Not a terrible backup to have on your roster and does bring some vet presence to what is shaping up to be a young team. The McRath to Calgary signing is interesting. Interesting that Stubler likes McRath and Etch didn't.

Interesting little nugget here. Doesn't mean much but... Jets draft pick Tucker Poolman (D man taken in the 5th rd of the 2013 draft) has been named the USA Hockey's Jr Player of the year. Nice to see the Jets prospects doing well. -

Just my opinion but i'd assume yes. I think the way this works here is until the season is officially umm on hold or whatever, you prepare like it isn't. -

Nobody wants a backup goalie making almost 4 million a year, cap team or not. Reality, That 4 million dollar goalie is either your starter or he is bought out. Halak siged with NYI today, 4 years 18.5 million, aav = 4.5 million. Pav's deal is horrible. -

The CFL lowballed the players with an offer to increase the salary cap by $100,000. Works both ways. what did the players give back to the CFL tho? they made a ridiculous proposal, 6 million plus cap with revenue sharing and all sorts of things. They didn't give the CFL anything so why should the cfl give them something? -

I'm gonna say this now, Jets will make a big move at or just before the draft... im thinking buff or kane more than likely, maybe both even get moved. I don't know where and i don't know what we will get back but i think it will be more than what people are expecting. No we aren't gonna trade kane for malkin or anything ridiculous like that but i could see a kane or buff to nyi trade happening, i could see a trade with philly, i could see a trade with boston even, i dont think boston would want kane though as they just got rid of their problem child in seguin. Plus boston doesn't have really much to make that deal work. You need to look at teams probably in the eastern conference with i'd suspect high first round draft picks and prospects ready to play now. Kane for Neal is a waste if there ever was one. I'm not even sure Neal is that good without malkin actually. -

i don't think the twitter comments are bothering anyone, i think what some of us are saying regarding those comments is they should shut up and not make them. If anyone thinks going on twitter and going on and on and on is helping their cause, that's being naive. Shut up, make a counter offer.. you want revenue sharing? then give the CFL something back. These guys are all being unreasonable.. it does seem the players do want everything under the sun but dont want to give anything up. That's not how negotiations work. Take the NHL as an example, players got 300 million in a make whole payment, to get that they agreed to a lower cap. If the players want revenue sharing then they need to give the cfl the lower cap. If they want a higher cap, then they cant have revenue sharing also. That's not how these things work. Players want it all like i said but dont seem to want to give anything back to the league. That's a problem. A big problem. To get you need to give something back... it seems the players dont want to do that. If that is indeed the case, then they wont get anything they want. A little give and a little take goes a long way here. -
the architect got bored probably... but in reality, upon closer inspection, it almost looks like those seats are bleachers or temp seats, perhaps not there all the time. It's hard to tell but it does look like it very well could be temp seating. That's what it looks like to me, again tho, you can't really zoom in so it's tough to see for sure but... does look very temp seating ish. Perhaps only for large events.

i don't know, i've seen a few comments on there from some players that do make sense. Lewis said he is not playing to become a millionaire, i don't think its about money here. It's about a fair deal. What is wrong with revenue sharing? all other leagues do it, i mean all of them. There is no guarantee that in the future they do get better revenue, as a matter of fact, i'd be surprised if it doesnt stay similar to what it is today with the exception of hamilton moving in to a new stadium, ottawa is a huge unknown and we all know the troubles with the argos. I don't see an issue with if the league does well the players do well, if it doesn't the players don't. That actually sounds fair to me. I think the players just want to feel like they matter to the league and right now, i have to admit, it does seem like the league is treating them like crap at times. they walked in to a meeting yesterday, read a letter, 15 minutes later left. That is not negotiating. That's being a bully really. You wont ever get a deal done like that. It just wont happen, The CFL needs to give the players something and the players need to give the CFL something back. And back and forth, Not just this is our offer, bye bye. Was that deal fair? i think so but... what did they really give the players? a tiny increase in the cap, and really not much else. That is not negotiating, That is like grade 2... take it or leave it stuff, i know you are but what am i type stuff here. It's playground tactics really. On the other side tho, the players need to understand that in order to get they need to give also. What have they given the league in return for wanting a higher cap and revenue sharing? Nothing really... Deals wont get done this way anywhere. Like i said, players need to give to get what they want and the cfl needs to give what they want.. Meet in the middle, its not rocket science really. As far as those teams who haven't shown their numbers from last season, who cares? all of us should, it's about being honest and transparent, if the argos ticats als etc lost as much as cohon said they did, then show the players... what do you have to lose? nothing. But.. heres the thing, what if those teams actually did make money ( i dont think they did) but what if they actually did and the CFL is bs'ing the players? You need to be honest and transparent in these negotiations, show them the numbers, if it's what the cfl said it is, then... why are the hiding it? -

Just had a little twitter convo with nik lewis, what he is saying does make sense. Toronto Hamilton and the privately owned teams have not show how much they made or lost last season, why haven't they? they certainly should. It does seem that lewis thinks toronto and hamilton both made money last season, i personally find that hard to believe... but maybe they should just show them their books from last season and see what happens, lewis is convinced they made money... i'm not. He does make sense tho, with the revenue sharing idea, when the league profits, the players profit, when the league doesn't the players dont. All i have to say to the CFL is... show them the numbers on toronto hamilton and the teams who haven't shown their numbers. Perhaps that is what is needed to make the players realize that maybe just maybe they did lose considerable amount of money. Lewis is also convinced toronto is moving out of rogers centre in 2015... is this for sure? -
I liked Gilmore at first but then he kept taking those really stupid undisciplined penalties all the time.

The players really need to stop with the twitter stuff though, still several are on there going on and on, it's not helping their cause at all. It's funny that most seem to be the import players too, who in my opinion have the most to lose here. Do they not understand that they are very replaceable? It seems they may not understand that. I've almost had enough of this already, when a retired goon like rob murphy tweets out that if anyone crosses the picket line he will personally be there to confront them, man... just shut up already. That is not helping at all. If anything the more the players go on and on about this on twitter, the more i think fans will lean towards the cfls side Threatening people and having multiple current players retweet it is just dumb. PA needs to put a gag order on the players for sure. What i don't really get is the players seem to be all angry and hot and bothered that cohon went public with what the CFL offered, but the players went public with what they want way before cohon did. Grown men acting like spoiled brats. -

Fantasy trades are fun but that would never happen, pens will never give up maata, it just won't happen. If you want a d men from pitt, it's more likely depres or pouliot. And for that matter, the jets wont give up wheeler either, he's basically the best player on the team by far and he loves playing here. These trade proposals aren't really based on anything other than one guy wanting to mortgage the future for maybe one playoff run where we would get swept. Gotta understand that this team is building for the future, we aren't gonna give up our young players for a guy like james neal that's for sure. Think Kane of Buff might get traded and i think the eastern conference is their likely destination but... i don't think pittsburgh would be willing to give up what we would want for them. -

Something will get worked out, it's just posturing, it happens all the time. CFL players aren't stupid although sometimes you have to wonder.. I think a deal is there to be made, they are closer than they appear, if the players would just stop going on twitter and crying about it and actually get back to the CFL with a reasonable counter offer, i think a deal can be made soon, it's not like they couldn't sit down and get a deal done in a day or so.. It's really just a lot of posturing to the fans right now. Not so much by the owners (in some case, you can say we are the owners, no i know not technically but...) We all seem to have such short memories when it comes to CBA's. NHL players did the same, NBA players too, NFL players, heck even last time, the CBA didn't get finished until what? half way through or near the end of june? we got lots of time, if we miss a weeek or 2 of training camp, no big deal. Still not convinced we miss training camp either though. -
6-2 kings, Dang, you know the NHL is hoping for NYR VS LA just cuz of the markets and i think its possible that's what we may get. Kings absolutely rolled over the Hawks last night.

It's a nice looking building for sure, I will say this though, all these buildings look pretty sweet on paper but in reality, they may end up looking similar to the "drawing" but it will never ever be 100 percent exactly like the drawing. It's still a beauty though. Just saying i wouldn't expect it to look like it does on paper. Looks more like a soccer stadium to me but i still like how it looks.

it is. and i'd suspect the guy standing next to buck and cameron is bucks brother, there is a resemblance there if you look close.

cohon just said it wont happen anyways so yeah... nothing to see here.

i don't care what anyone says but the stuff on twitter is really making me agree with the owners here. Jon Cornish crying that he's not getting paid enough to feed his family, that's jon fricking cornish, he's a premier player in the league getting paid well over 6 figures. he even threw in a little face. Good god, get off twitter you moron. Marquay Mcdaniel going on about if you want a loan, ask the qb's, they got all the money <--- cracks starting to show there Juwan Simpson saying they dont want us to eat All this stuff is just bullcrap and i'm sorry but these are the marquee players in the game, they are crying that they are broke, i dont buy it for half a second, they are greedy arrogant pricks really. Could see it from their perspective for sure but this twitter stuff is getting ridiculous actually, the biggest mistake the cflpa has made so far is let their players go on twitter and basically rant. It's hurting them more than it is helping them. You get the odd fan who agrees but... it seems most really see through the bs. -
have to admit, his play well downhill fast.
