"There is nothing Marve can show in practice this week"

I can't think of another reason why Brohm is given such a long leash. -

I hope so too. That way we'll have a decent look at what Marve is capable of in ordinary situations. Really, you can't just ignore the fact that Marve played in unusual situations last year. Stats always need context. And again I reiterate... Marve was just as effective, if not more effective than his peers, at moving the ball in both of his appearances. Is the objective in football not to move the ball and score points? Marve was quite good in relief last year, no matter which way you look at it. -

Brohm was doing the same. I doubt that there was a significant difference in the level of competition between the two. -

Don't bother. I've shown him the stats many times. He keeps acting like they mean nothing. They mean very little, considering the unusual situations that he played in. And despite those stats, Marve has been just as effective, if not more effective than his peers at moving the chains in those games. -

First game: It's pointless to draw conclusions from 10 pass attempts because he likely would have completed a higher percentage had he played the entire game. Three of his 10 throws came in his last-minute drive, when they were down by 10 and in a hurry to throw the ball downfield. If you were to include his rushing yards, Marve was just as effective at moving the ball as Brohm (who couldn't put points on the board, largely because he lost a fumble the only time he approached the end zone). Second game: The weather conditions were about as bad as anyone could have imagined, especially during the second half when Marve got all of his reps. The fact that he didn't commit a single turnover in that snowstorm is an impressive feat on its own. Marve was also just as effective at moving the ball as Mitchell, and infinitely more effective than Willy in that same game. Ultimately, Marve has had too few reps (all in very unusual situations) for us to really know what he's all about. But the fact is that his tools are MUCH more impressive than Brohm's, and therefore he should be given a chance, given what Brohm has done to this point. -

Look the last 2 games were hard situations for any quarterback to come into. The team lost it's starter and it got them down mentally. There are enough excuses to be found that it is understandable that you don't make a change at qb, especially if you believe that Brohm understands the system better, and why shouldn't he? He's an older more experienced qb, I hope he understands things. That's probably a big comfort to the coaches. But don't fret about it too much, guys don't get unlimited chances to not produce. If he gets a week of prep as the starter and still goes out and poops his pants things will start to change. The job of a quarberback is to be able to step up in relief of the starter, even midway through a game if needed. If Brohm can't do that, what's the use in keeping him around? Especially when Marve has done admirable job in relief. There is not one aspect of Brohm's game that is attractive and he does not belong on a professional football field. When? Twice last year. -

If Marve has a bad attitude and somehow is a detriment to the team, why not cut him? Even a guy like Jason Vega feels bad for Marve, and he spent an entire year with the guy. He certainly doesn't seem to be bothered by Marve's attitude, if I'm understanding his tweets correctly. -

Brohm has been at the helm for about 140 minutes of regular season play already, that's more than the equivalent of two full games. In that time, he's thrown 5 interceptions, 0 TDs, and has lost a fumble, with an abysmal passer rating of 53.8. Meanwhile, Marve has not committed a single turnover in 53 minutes of regular season play, and has shown to be capable of moving the ball effectively. The job of a backup is to be able to step up in relief of an injured or underperforming QB, so what's the use in having a QB who can't do his job?? Might as well play Davis if Marve is injured. Brohm has not once earned the primary backup position, going all the way back to last year's training camp when he was pretty much neck-and-neck with Max Hall. I have a difficult time thinking about his position on this team as anything but a classic case of cronyism. -
So the loss is on Brohm? Get real. Willy has yet to score a TD vs Esks in three starts. You're not wrong about what Willy has done against Edmonton, but what do two previous games have to do with Saturday? You sure have a strange desire to go out of your way to hate on Drew Willy. I don't get why folks are blaming Brohm for the loss. That makes no sense. Willy's numbers were hardly any better through 2/3 of the game. Willy was like 7 for 17 and 81 yards. Every time Willy loses it seems like he can do no wrong. He's always aabove criticism. I don't hate Drew Willy. I'd like to see him do well. But we've given him every opportunity through more than 20 games ... and maybe it's time to admit he's just not the second coming everyone thinks he is. I agree with the premise that Willy is slightly overrated, but Brohm was absolutely one of, if not THE main reason for that loss. The score was 4-3 when he got into the game, at which point he put the team into a huge hole by throwing two interceptions. He had a yards-per-attempt of only 3.7 to Willy's 4.8 despite playing in better conditions. Willy at least kept the team in the game by virtue of committing zero turnovers.

He's not getting it done and the other guy has gotten it done, isn't that the entire basis of your Marve vs. Brohm support? Why the different opinion here? Stoudemire might have been great last year, but this year he's been useless and actually a detriment to the team whereas Veltung has been good. 2 chances is plenty in my opinion, when the CFL is as tight as it is you can't piss away games letting guys figure it out. Veltung has just been alright. He has gotten the job done but hasn't proven to be a gamebreaker, like Stoudermire was capable of last year. If Stoudermire can get back to last year's form, I think he's our best option. That's why I'm willing to give him another shot. If he falters again, I suppose he deserves to be sat until Veltung proves to be ineffective. Brohm is a 30-year old QB who does not belong on professional football field. What's the use in dressing a QB who can't throw nor run the ball? I don't see how the two situations are similar at all.

Stoudermire was among the best returners in the league last year. I'm willing to give him another game.

True, Boltus is probably worse. Dinwiddie at least had a few decent games.

Brohm may very well be the worst QB I've ever seen in a Bombers uniform.

Team Losing Because Of Coaching Decisions
Yourface replied to TransconaBomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Man I have seen way too much of Brohm at this point. Guy is awful. Marve has been able to move the ball in all of his appearances so far... It's time to see what he can do as the primary backup. -
Yeah but "Swaggerville" isn't entirely to blame. If they fed off that energy and felt that they maintained a high level of confidence because of it, I say let them be.
-
Ok, when they award the "damn near won the Grey Cup" Cup then swagger away, but somehow, I don't think that's going to happen Again, I don't see how it hindered their play on the field. If anything they probably fed off that energy. I have never understood why people had a problem with Swaggerville.
-
Well they damn near won the Grey Cup... It's not like it hindered their play on the field. That defence was awesome and kept us in a lot of games for a couple of years.
-
I wasn't sure if they did review or not which is why I asked. If they did how is this not conclusive enough that it didn't cross? If this is the only angle they had and this is what they are basing their judgment on then it's pretty clear it DID NOT cross. I say they need to mount go pros to those little orange pylons used to mark the goal line from now on How can you be so sure? Based on the angles we saw, I'd say that there is a strong possibility that at least the tip of the ball broke the plane. As others have said, I don't think that there was conclusive evidence to overturn the call on the field.

Last night's game was one of the most exciting games I've ever seen. And after having to endure last year's snoozefests, this year's games have come as a bit of a relief in my opinion. Regarding your point about rookie QB's, I think the only surprise is Trevor Harris considering he's been overlooked these last couple years and came from a Division II school. Rakeem Cato was outstanding in college. Really, the only reason he never got more attention is because of his size. Neither Crompton nor Bridge fared well in his place.

Does the New Convert Rule Improve the CFL?
Yourface replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Well, two-point converts are much more exciting than field goals as far as I'm concerned. There's also a little more strategy involved now which I don't mind. -
The fact that his ceiling is a bad version of Kevin Glenn is all i need to know. The real Kevin Glenn isn't overly impressive. Not to mention Glenn throws the ball well on most nights. He is one of my favourite passers to watch in the entire league, just due to his technique. Brohm uses terrible mechanics to produce awful results.

The thing is Marve should have been (and should be from here on in) the second-stringer in the first place. There is not one thing that Brohm has done to merit the backup position.
