  1. Not overly surprising. Can't keep everyone. If he showed enough potential he might have earned a camp invite next year. Whether or not you saw him play isn't going to weigh heavily on Walters' mind. With Kyle Bolton on the PR, that was 5 import RBs on the the team, which was 2 too many. The axe will drop on another one soon.
  2. ooooooh looks so purdy and green probably hasn't even been barfed in yet
  3. Definition of Calgarys sports fan community.... When I hear some of them trying to act like they've spent time in a locker room & know what it's like to play in a CIS, NCAA or CFL game when they never did, I just shake my head. It's one of the reasons I no longer listen to Sports Talk radio here because it is laughable. Well if you're in Winnipeg, you'll have a reason to frantically try and kick the radio thru the dashboard. hint - rhymes with troy westwood
  4. Looks like Friesen is sneaking glances Tait's shoulder at his notes.
  5. And this is my biggest problem with Weicek covering the Bombers. I really don't get the impression he understands the CFL at all. His articles, the segments on the radio he does - both leave me shaking my head and saying "that's not right" about all sorts of basic things. Sometimes even the players on the roster. You can look this information up pretty easily these days.
  6. By process of elimination and body size I was able to figure it out pretty fast. Suitor and Cuthbert couldn't seem to go through the same process. For awhile they were calling him Greg Peach, then it was Zach Anderson. Finally, when the camera showed Thomas sitting on the bench smiling with #60 on, the mystery for them was solved. Did Thomas get any reps on the o-line at all? None. But he got a sack wearing the #60, so maybe he should make it a permanent thing.
  7. So now we can forgive Walters for the Korey Banks transaction? No mistakes are still mistakes. We can talk about good and bad without having to ignore one or the other. I do not equate every personnel move that doesn't work out as something that GMs should apologize for. We traded a guy who wasn't really working out for us for a guy who was getting on Buono's nerves about a contract extension. The all-or-nothing approach to GM assessment is how you end up with fans saying "IMWT" and moving on to "every single thing he ever did was terrible". Wasn't true for him, wasn't true for Taman, wasn't even true for Kelly. Just make sure you get a lot more right than you do wrong.
  8. I probably wondered for a quarter who #60 was. And when I realized it was Thomas I just assumed his jersey had blood on it or something along those lines. It wasn't until I saw Greaves jersey-less on the sidelines later in the game that I understood Thomas was now our 6th man. Multi-tasking - that's why he got the new contract. Grigsby has done enough exceptional things so far that he will have to give the Bombers a reason to take him off the roster before Cotton goes on. Cotton looked better than Grigsby in preseason, but Grigsby looks way better now than he did in preseason. Straight up switching one out for the other? I think Cotton getting Woods' DI spot will happen first. He does some returns, gets some reps out of the backfield. If he shows he's still the better guy, then Woods goes back on the roster for Grigsby the week following. That would be my reasoned and cautious approach. OShea doesn't give two birds about my approach. If he thinks Cotton is ready and still better, he'll just stick him back in.
  9. Are the values of players locked in for the entire season? Or are they doing some adjustments later on?
  10. Well, the depth is still pretty shabby. The talent level should not have been as maligned as it was. Depth - Thomas is not allowed to get injured this season, and if Swiston isn't healthy by the end of the week....well it's getting pretty bare bones on our roster. Love the extensions, and am assuming that part of adding one year includes a small pay raise for this year. These guys are earning it. I agree that we need more DL depth. I hope that one of Mulumba or Bilikudi is coming our way in the near future. Also - we do have a few other National OL on the roster, but that being said, it will be a sad day if we have to use them. Gord Hinse is the only one I see being able to step in and actually play, given his prior experience. For the here and now, Hinse is on the 6 game IR. I don't know if that's just a place to stash him or if he's really a month away from being fit. Either way, Greaves is still out for the Montreal game. Swiston, Everett, or we're DI-ing an Olineman. I suspect Swiston is healthy enough to go already, and the only question the Bombers are deciding this week is who starts at guard and who is the 6th between him and Goossen.
  11. I didn't want to throw this out there 2 weeks ago (during your rants about trading up in the draft), but if there's a draft where I'm moving valuable pieces around and trying to trade up to number #1, it's not the 2014 draft. Now just because I've shined up my dancing shoes doesn't mean I'm going to find a willing dance partner, but if I'm the Jets I'm leaving that bullet in the chamber until June of next year.
  12. His were dropped, Taj Smith's were not. My guess is he beaked off at everyone in a 3 mile radius and Smith was dumb enough to stick up for him. With Anderson, it's probably a decent guess.
  13. Well, the depth is still pretty shabby. The talent level should not have been as maligned as it was. 14. And if wishes were horses I'd be eating wish meat every night...
  15. Lock of the week goes to Rich, but now where do we talk about bacon?
  16. I'm not impressed by bacon. Sure, YOU might think it tastes delicious, but anyone who really knows about meat knows that it's just lucky that it has so much salt on it. Take away the salt and fat and it has a lot of work to do on it's fundamentals before it's a decent piece of food. My wife bought me a bag of that bacon jerky stuff a while back, bless her heart. Turns out it's pretty much just really crispy bacon. Not sure what I expected. On the bright side, I have a bag of really crispy bacon.
  17. Yeah what the hell was that? He just stood there and let the Ottawa guy jump on the ball. I agree, that was completely bizarre. I have no clue what was going through his mind. And then after watching the Ottawa guy jump on it he tries to signal that's it our ball. He was trying to sell it as an incomplete pass - that Willy was trying to shovel pass the ball to him like he had earlier in the game. That might even be the case, but it was still a fumble.
  18. No no, it's really much like leaving a cat in the garage when you go away for the weekend. Leave out a bowl of water, some kibble, a litter box. All will be fine.
  19. I don't have kids, want kids or even really like kids, and with that said, your ignorance is absolutely astounding. There are positives to point of views like this. For example, I now know that all comments from this poster don't need to be read going forward. It's a nice time saver.
  20. He has several weeks of uncontested auditioning for the number 1 job. Pretty rare thing in football. If he doesn't win it he will have no one to blame but himself.
  21. Montreal and Ottawa perhaps? He has value as depth, so if he swallows some pride and can accept lower dollars and a spot on the bench, most teams would consider it. But regular work in a jersey, I think only those two teams might have need.
  22. In terms of pure offence, he may already be the most skilled player in the Jets organization. Thinking of someone to compare him to, maybe Patrick Kane? That doesn't mean he's ready yet, but when he is, this kid has a very high ceiling.
  23. Enough with this well-reasoned logic - this thread is exclusively for half-baked conspiracy theories. Take your nonsense somewhere else! Maybe he's here to secretly kidnap O'Shea right before the game starts, then Banks himself takes over as head coach with a goal of sabotaging the Bombers. Bryant Turner's new son shows up and kicks the crap out of Banks and coaches the team to victory. Just a rumor I heard on twitter... You almost had me believing... No mention of Evander Kane getting traded was the giveaway. All true rumours have Kane being traded.
  24. He's going to win some, he's going to lose some, he'll have some bad games yet. But it's pretty apparent that the game is not moving too fast for him. He is not overwhelmed out there. Combining that with his passing skills, there is reason to have confidence in him this early in his Bomber career.
  25. Bombers needed a few more stops for Maher to really have paid off. Considering I'll only watch the CFL games featuring the BLUEGOLDS this year, lots of guesses will be made when starting players from other teams. Apparently Curtis Steele is not the Argos starting RB. Go figure.
