  1. Enough with this well-reasoned logic - this thread is exclusively for half-baked conspiracy theories. Take your nonsense somewhere else!
  2. It's called CBS, and your grandma loves it.
  3. Community > Modern Family #sixseasonsandamovie FYI: http://uproxx.com/tv/2014/06/holy-crap-yahoo-just-saved-community-and-picked-it-up-for-a-sixth-season/ Thank God, I've been out on this ledge for 2 months now.
  4. Sorry, really should have hashtagged all of that.
  5. Modern Family is hipster? Modern Family isn't fit to hold Community's google glasses. RIP Community. six seasons and a movie
  6. What I like about free agency is that we don't have to give up prospects to get talent. We only have to give up money. What I don't like about free agency is teams are so eager to get a guy that they handcuff themselves on future roster moves. Scheiffle and Trouba's entry level contracts have two years left - would anyone be happy if they walked because we had too much money tied up in Stastny and 3 years left until his contract was up? If we're giving up a prospect what we're really giving up is a piece of the future. If the plan is to shape this team into contenders over the course of the next 3 to 5 years and make runs at the cup for the following decade, where will the "talent" be when this is happening? If he's still with the team, great. Then it's worth a prospect because you aren't trading away a piece of the future, you are changing a piece of the future. If Sharp has several years left on his contract, taking on the salary and giving up something in return could work out for the Jets. Guess I could just look up his contract. As long as they continue to account for all the moving pieces, salary included, there may be a responsible way of fitting Sharp in our roster such that it enhances our present and our future.
  7. Wasn't last year his first season playing hockey in North America? Young, small, fresh out of the box smell - he won't be wearing a Jets jersey past 10 games. It sure looks like he has crazy offensive talents though. He will be a fun one to watch someday. He still has holes in his game now, work on them for a while before bringing him up. Was true before the draft, true before the opening of free agency, true in 2 months time. I see it driving home from work every day - there's always a couple of drivers cutting in and out of traffic, lane to lane to lane, trying to get ahead of one more car. They're trying to win the drive home. Yet every red light, who's there next to them? The same cars they think they are "beating". Traffic moves at the rate traffic moves. One team will win the cup in July 2015. Someone will point to a free agent signing or a trade deadline move or whatever as a reason. Yet all 29 other teams were doing the same thing. Jets fans will say only 28 were. The Jets are climbing their way out of the muck one slow step at a time. It's tedious. We want them to just grab a jetpack and zoom on out immediately. Scheiffle, Trouba, Morrisey, Elhers. These guys are all looking like fantastic picks. Petan, Lowry, Comrie, Hellebyuk. The current plan looks like a pretty good one. It just doesn't reward the impatient. But in 3 years time most of these guys will be in our starting lineup, playing together, growing together. In 5 years time these guys might all be contending together, year after year. Imagine going into every season with this team being spoken about in the same breath as Pittsburgh, Boston, St. Louis, LA and Chicago. Those teams weren't constructed on splash, they were constructed on savvy.
  8. I thought the Jets would win their first game based on their emotion too... Bombers 5 - Redblacks 1 Hmm, does Ottawa have Tim Stapleton on their roster?
  9. They have the bye this week. * rimshot *
  10. Didn't really think it was worth arguing over, but jeez, seriously? Ya, he can go home and be there for the birth of his child when we have a bye week! Yargh yargh yargh! Take your sweet time and enjoy the birth of your child Bryant. Can't compete for free agents on climate. Can't compete for free agents on money. Can't compete for free agents on winning. Thought we could at least sell "great fans", but it turns out they're becoming a bunch of aholes.
  11. Sharp is a great player and I'd love to have him on our team. We'd better not be interested. What we'd have to give up to get him we cannot afford to give up. Chevy has done a good job of not being his own worst enemy. He's not always chasing after the latest shiny thing. Some day we might have surplus assets and can make a play for guys like this. That is years away.
  12. Anywhere would have under 20K with this kind of weather. But Saskatchewan isn't just anywhere...it's the home of the self proclaimed best fans in the league. You gotta back up that kinda claim with more than a watermelon on your head. A lot of their season ticket base and fans draw from out of town. When highways are shutdown, I will give them a pass from having to swim to the game. Will give them a pass on the 19,000 thing if they promise to go a whole month without their standard chest-thumping and blind homerism. Stuffing the ballot box on TSN's game of the week is not a good start. Not a good start at all.
  13. Prior to the Perreault signing I would have had Legwand as a decent pickup for 3rd line center. Definitely not wanting him on our top 2 lines. Like the Perreault signing way better than Legwand. Young and fast, good on the dot. Put a couple of decent wingers with him and teams now have to defend against 3 lines. Thorburn stays on the 4th line TUP.
  14. Power rankings are a simple tool for gambling addicts who don't know enough about the teams yet still desperately want to bet money on the outcome of games. Unwring your hands. Hamilton can enjoy their 3rd place ranking. I'll take our 2 points.
  15. If opposing teams don't take minimum 22 penalties every game I will be furious at the Bombers.
  16. And by the way, why did Ottawa get to invent a "Disabled List"? And why is Wallace Miles so special that he gets on it rather than one of the IR lists?
  17. Was over on the Ottawa site to see who there kicker is - ya, it's Maher, they don't have any other kickers or punters on any of their rosters - and caught a glance of some tweets. Guys excited to see their logo up on the visitor room at IGF. For CFL fans Ottawa having a team is deja vu all over again, but for these guys it's still the first ever game in franchise history. I like their enthusiasm.
  18. "Here's a franchise that's been losing money since before most of us were born. It makes money once every 5 years by hosting the Grey Cup. For Sale. As Is. Except the money-making part. Keeping that."
  19. That's pretty short sighted. Stockpiling tons of young talent that we did not have before isn't staying the same. Just because the benefits are not immediate does not mean we are staying the same. Why are you putting so much weight on making the playoffs? Why are defining our success as whether or not we make the playoffs this season. Should the goal of this franchise be to match Columbus? They made the playoffs. Personally I'm happy the goal of this franchise is to match Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles. Teams that have a legitimate shot to win the Stanley Cup every year. Not because they squeaked into the 8th place playoff slot, because they have assembled a powerful franchise.
  20. He's not garbage - he's a perfectly good depth guy. The problem is the Jets already have a bunch of depth guys. Too many. Every team needs a player or two like him; we have a half dozen. Goalie is way over the top in his reactions to...well, everything the Jets haven't done, but in this case there is some validity in this point. Not all the other crazy that surrounds it. And 1.2 million is a lot to pay a guy who can't score and gets kinda pummeled against the league's heavyweights. Valiant, but pummeled.
  21. About 5 years ago I kicked the tires on a gorgeous brand new Dodge Challenger. Purple. "Plum Crazy". So sweet. Still bought the mini-van instead. We were always out of the Stastny sweepstakes.
  22. Poblah had 2 catches for 11 yards. The only Bomber player who caught a ball with less yards receiving was Volny. Teague Sherman had 11 yards receiving. Watson (72 yards, 1 TD in one half) being injured again does not magically make Poblah a better player. They do not belong in the same conversation.
  23. I will always remember the name Korey Banks. Korey Banks is a reminder of a time when the Bombers literally could not afford the best players. We passed on 7 years of Korey Banks in his prime because we could not afford his salary and drafted Val St. Germain and Obby Khan instead. Ignoring ratio implications, having reminders of the muck we've waded thru to get to this point helps me appreciate the present so much more.
  24. Insurance costs money...whether you need it or not. And actually in the long run they will end up saving money...by not having to pay his full salary for 18 games. But you're paying another guy to take his spot, likely a cheaper import. So it evens out in the end. If we're getting fussy about the math here, his probable short term replacement is already getting paid by us while sitting on the 1 game IR. His long term replacement (if needed) once found likely goes on to the PR until an injury happens. So there might be a few pennies saved in the process. Maybe enough to give us a small advantage on a juicy FA once the NFL does their cuts. Maybe enough that no one else is in the conversation if Muamba or Matthews shakes loose. Or, a nice signing bonus when for Willy at the end of the season that doesn't go on the books for 2015.
