  1. Massive amounts of small-minded pettiness? I'm trying to come up with an alternate reason....
  2. Agreed. The part that misses the mark on most mock drafts (like that Edmonton blog) is that they just plug names into perceived holes, ignoring that GMs demonstrate tendencies over the years. AuClair to anyone else? I'm not sure how he gets used (since I'm not a scout, or particularly smart). AuClair to the Stamps? That seems very Huffnagel to me. Buono getting someone to come off the edge seems very Buono to me. These all make sense.
  3. Some of this time period and the hirings and firings and politics of the Lions is covered in Bob Ackles biography. I found it a pretty interesting read.
  4. Trash 80's? Made me the computer genius I am today! 10 PRINT "BOOBS" 20 GOTO 10
  5. I'll take Locking Down our Starting 7 Ratio for eight hundred Alex.
  6. Or as Tburg probably will put it - 8 different NFL teams? Why are we hiring a guy who can't seem to hold down a job?
  7. I termed it butt-pulling mostly because of the 3rd rounder in 2018 part. After all, I am a TSN insider. Shhh, don't tell. I wasn't about to go thru 29 teams and figure out all the possible love connections. Just that there are circumstances for both parties that potentially make a good fit in this case, but it's one of probably thirty team/goalie combos that could be reasonably argued.
  8. So I'm supposed to pretend I didn't pull that out of my butt? Other than they have nothing behind Brobrovsky and the only reason they are where they are is Brobrovsky...no reason at all.
  9. Calling Pavelec to Columbus for a 3rd in 2018.
  10. Stafford is an opportunistic finisher. That's his game. On the right line he can be effective in that role without hurting the team too much. My biggest issue isn't how little he does on the ice when he isn't in front of the other team's net (although if he did more it would make his scoring slumps less noticeable), it's that for an opportunistic finisher his conversion rate on chances seems very low. His 20 goals season should have been a 30 or 40 goal season, but he somehow finds ways to not put the puck in the back of the net just as often as he does. Anyway, some team will pick him for front line depth in the playoffs. If the Jets hang on to him with any good offer on the table Chevy's insane. They've only shown themselves to be buyers one season and they made the playoffs that year, so I'm leaning towards not insane.
  11. If his salary already has decided his fate he will be gone before camp starts. I suspect it hasn't. We will carry 4-5 NI Olinemen somewhere on the roster even if we only start 2. Chungh, Goossen and Couture makes 3. Inzandt could be the 4th. A draft pick could be the 5th. But maybe neither of those guys are good enough right now, and until there is some certainty there, Walters might be prepared to spend a few more dollars on his depth at NI Olineman and find the savings somewhere else.
  12. No one else thought he was worth more.
  13. Good old Aardvark, he'd get so wound up in the offseason when we'd sign/draft a bunch of Olinemen who were 6'7" and 325 pounds. "We'll have the best Oline in the league!" he would insist. And of course they'd be a mixed bag of semi-competent and semi-garbage, but never good. All things equal, being a little taller and a little heavier can sometimes be an advantage. Problem is that almost never are all other things equal.
  14. Name recognition always will have sway. It's been so long since he played well in a game it's hard to assess if he's still capable. He's bringing his existing contract over to Ottawa, so this feels like Calgary freeing up some cap space as much as Ottawa getting insurance.
  15. First things first, love the analysis Derek Taylor is doing. Not sure how he gets his numbers, if he has a single source, if he's going over the tape from every game played last year or teams are providing him with this, but no matter. It's great. Second, using those numbers at face value (which oddly enough weren't always whole numbers when the math was done, maybe some borderline passes were counted as half interceptable?) and calculating through, this would be the 2016 percentage of interceptable balls per total passes thrown: Cato - 7.7% Masoli - 5.4% Burris - 4.9% Ray - 4.5% Jennings - 4.3% Willy - 4.2% Glenn - 4.1% Nichols - 3.6% Durant - 3.4% Collaros - 3.2% Mitchell - 2.5% Reilly - 2.2% Harris - 2.1% Apologies for the lack of fancy colours and formatting. So Cato is both the luckiest and the worst.
  16. Weird QB market. Nichols for a 7th. Tate for a 5th. Adams for a 1st. Willy for a 1st, 3rd and an all-star DB. Nichols is the best of the bunch currently, yet commanded the least in return. Was also the only one who was a pending FA. Hard value trades if a consistent rate can't be established.
  17. You say that, but can you tell if they're wearing any pants?
  18. I recall him having a large debt that CFL cash would never cover.
  19. It's 3 PM. That's a long time to wait for lunch.
  20. Mary Steenburgen?
  21. Chris Jones is. Sorry, I thought that said moron.
  22. It's total conjecture, but I have a thought-fart that Toronto might have offered him that amount or more already and Denmark is simply deciding if joining that circus and likely having the worst year of his career is worth the extra $30k. He was cut twice last year. Joining the Argos and having a 450 yard season would probably be the nail in his CFL coffin. A one year deal for less money here and a 1000 yard season might be something he can flip into a 2 year deal for bigger coin afterwards.
  23. So you feel there was a bit of Hangover hangover.
  24. Mazneil or Mazneal? First, no, because he's not on our neg list. Something we have in common with the Riders. Hint hint Jones. Second, probably not because he wouldn't want to be here. All he'd be looking for is a way back to the NFL. And while that doesn't make him unique, the circus that would follow him would be. Guys who come to the CFL looking for a chance to get to the NFL do it by putting their head down, shutting up and doing the work. The entirety of Manziel's existence to this point suggests he is incapable of at least two of those things.
  25. No love for Hotels.com commercials?
