  1. What usually catches my eye when looking at the draft picks from 2.0 is how many come from the NCAA, US developmental team and US junior colleges. It seems like this scouting staff puts a lot of focus on exploring leagues that appear to be afterthoughts in other circles.
  2. The best way to think of it is to imagine standing naked at the center of the field. Whatever section you turn to face, seat 1 will be on your left and seat 20 (or whatever is in that section, not all the same) is on the right. So on the west side seat 1 is on the south while on the east side seat 1 is on the north.
  3. That's Mrs. Spelt. Mr. Spelt made an honest woman out of her.
  4. On Wednesday (not sure about today) 2nd place and 11th place were separated by 5 points. Over 2/3's of the season left. At this point the standings resemble a crab race in Jamaica. Don't make too many predictions and enjoy some rum.
  5. Considering they gave Gurley a one-year deal solely so he could explore his NFL options, he might get a look. He has enough good stats and film to at least do the tryout circuit.
  6. Same role, different city. Except that city is home. Edit: That was the short answer. The longer answer is Walters doesn't have to. Either the idea is already in Coombs' head and he goes to free agency or it isn't and he re-signs in Toronto before free agency. Walters has to decide if we want Coombs if he goes to free agency. Lochard didn't suck when he filled in, his performance was well beyond what I expected.
  7. Who does? But considering the inverse is usually directly related...might the problem be you?
  8. As for Price, a very big part of the reason he is the world's best goalie is he made a decision to stop relying just on his (incredible) natural ability and start eating clean, training hard, working hard.
  9. The why is more important than the what. The Jets obviously decided on this course of action before the season started. The incumbent got only one start in preseason and got sent to the minors despite getting a shut out in that game, while the two keepers who survived that cut didn't really inspire confidence in exhibition. So why? Management needed to know what they have. They knew what they thought they had. With only a year left on the incumbent's contract and an expansion draft also a year away, are the the plans the Jets have for the future likely to bear fruit? The Jets aren't winning the cup this year; being in a playoff position is a pleasant surprise as far as I'm concerned, and I'd expect a truly honest answer from management to indicate the same. So they use this year to take a long look at two of the guys who could be the future and see how they respond to different situations. To a full 82 game schedule. To losing streaks. To long road trips. To aholes on the internet who think letting in 5 goals in a game is proof that they'll never be an NHL goalie. Find out what they show and find out how much they grow. In short, the why in all of this is so that they can make as informed a decision as possible at the end of this season.
  10. Don't you dare say officiating has never been better Orridge. Cohon owns that bullschmidt line. You'll have to get a new one.
  11. Kavis Reed oversaw some garbage defences for Hamilton and Toronto. Was a big no for me when he came here. He did alright for us. You never know which combination of players and coaches will make the magic sauce. The trend of saying the same old names over and over is not my favourite though.
  12. "What you do is shift all of your defensive players to this side of the field...this creates a wide open space on the other side for the offence to exploit...when they do, the defence converges and makes the tackle after 12 to 40 yards..."
  13. There is an awful of "????" in this post. But then it's Friday, so the idea of responding went away very quickly. Today is a really good day. I hope most of you are having a good day too. Hat tip, sayonara.
  14. Are those the actual percentages involved or are you using these as an example? Unless there are extenuating circumstances that are difficult to forecast, the margin of error shouldn't be that high. That's crazy. When I see numbers that don't make sense I drill down find the reason for it. There is a cause. If it's not a one-off, your model is wrong and you need to change it. Watching this unending cycle of teams handing out terrible contracts and then locking out players to change the CBA because they aren't capable of controlling their own actions is tiresome.
  15. Shhhhh. Logic like this is totally unnecessary.
  16. Are we going to acknowledge continuous and obvious improvement?
  17. Cause 30 interceptions normally happen without disrupting the quarterback.
  18. Also decent on the PK and one of our most physical players. But yeah, gas the jerk. I understand Ducky's frustration though. Watching this team mired in last place, night after night is just the worst. Oh wait, turns out we're second in the western conference and the team ahead of us, we beat them 4-0 last night.
  19. Garbage. Total garbage. What would hockey be if it didn't have moments like these?
  20. With a 19 point lead one of the easiest ways to let another team back into the game is turnovers, so not forcing plays that aren't there is the wise choice. But the Bombers still had to trade punches with BC in the second half, instead they mostly took it on the chin. The defence didn't have the edge over BC's offence for over a half of football, and our offence largely lost the battle with their D in the second half. When I look at it that way, losing by a point seems like the correct outcome.
