Around The League Regular Season Discussion

One and only one reason that happens - these guys were poisoning the locker room. Honestly, that's a huge set of stones on Millanovich. Absolutely unprecedented. Props to him for sticking to his principles. After last week the Commish might benefit from spending an hour or two with him. -
They now give a grade out of 10 next to each draft pick on the NFL website, and provide a breakdown of each grade range. Carson Wentz got a 6.5 out of ten. So I looked at what 6.5 means. Something along the lines of "NFL starter with potential All-Pro ability". In my world, that's a 9. A guy with All-Pro ability in the NFL scores a 6.5? That is the best way of illustrating how overly negative those scouting reports are. 10 is reserved for the greatest player in NFL history apparently. Aaron Rodgers wouldn't grade out as a 10 during his MVP season by those standards. Peyton Manning's report probably said "appears to overthink things" as a knock on him. Anyways, comments like "questionable " should always be followed by "compared to the greatest players in NFL history", since that's what they actually mean.

AARDVARK CAN!!! -
Tidbits from one receivers NFL scouting report: Acceleration - Does not explode off the line or out of cuts Agility - Does not show much quick burst Hands - can be too inconsistent here, .... Lacks concentration. Some drops are caused by him tensing up before taking a hit from defenders. Will let the ball get into his body too often. Route Running - very raw, .... Does not have the speed to plant and explode, .... Can get sloppy at times and will round off cuts. Will get too high at times in his breaks, making the route easy to diagnose by defenders Speed - does not possess sprinter speed. He is a long strider who takes time to get to full speed. Any guesses? Highlight for answer: Julio Jones, 6th overall pick of the 2011 NFL draft In other words, there isn't a single scouting report ever made that doesn't contain lots of negative.

What do you mean "we", paleface?

We're all just experienced toddlers or senior citizens in training.

I don't put too much weight on NCAA pedigree because it isn't the best predictor of CFL success, but I won't pretend it doesn't exist either. Davis put up some serious numbers at UNC.

That guy with the statue in front of the stadium? Never heard of him. (fantastic choice)

Watched that game from a hot tub in the Whiteshell. I thought the weather was fine.

Need to start a thread for this.

I like the idea of trying to get the call right. Especially considering how often CFL refs get the call wrong. The CFL has to use some common sense and stop trying to overreach the practical applications of video review.
-
Can't take credit for it, but it would go a long way to getting rid of the ticky-tack nonsense that they call now. There should be no such thing as a subtle pass interference call. Either it is obvious or it isn't worth calling. And honestly, the CFL have been idiots when it comes to application of their rules, then see the idiocy in action and back away from it over time. At the start of last season they declared "no contact" on a receiver was to be interpreted literally. And then coaches decided to drop flags on the sidelines anytime slow-mo could demonstrate a DB brushed a fingernail against a receiver. It was just awful.

No, this is all on you. Calgary had no idea where to find game tape on the Bombers before you put that youtube link up.

This head coaching business is a tough gig. Sure hope BC gives that Buono kid some time to learn his craft. #rookieheadcoaches

I thought the turning point in the offensive tempo was the penalty-negated interception he threw. Another passive 4 yard pass on second and ten (I think). Kind of like he had a realization that the dink and dunk passing can still result in turnovers, so screw it, let's force the issue. Next play was 15ish yards over the middle, followed by the 20ish yard pass into the endzone for the TD. After that, he was far more aggressive in his pass selection. Before, it looked like the game was going to be another nail-biter resulting from a sputtering offence.

Cool fact: Most players in the CFL are here because they murdered someone.

Much like the stadium itself, I see their season ending with a giant implosion.

Miller starting contract extension talks with Walters O'Shea

Blasphemous thought? Not really, just a strange one. Not sure why "pump the brakes with all this praise, he's got talented players now!" is where your mind goes. Any other coaches in this league you plan on giving that particular sniff test to? Guess Jones really is the best coach in the league after all; he's gotten two wins out of that garbage team. We all owe Billichek North an apology. Cut them all! Round up some crappy players for him to coach! (And today's least surprising thing ever - who decided that comment needed a like.) -
It was reported that there were attempts made to extend him during/after 2014 but Lirim declined. Then he struggled mightily in 2015 and we decided to go with a safer option. Medlock costs more, negatively affects the overall roster ratio, and gets us wins. Totally worth it.

Tburg just be Tburging. Ain't no big thing. Thought we were all used to it by now. -
They re-calculated the player values again. The rosters all have seven empty spots again. Everyone who did anything good this year went up by $30,000 each again. I have 3 effin Riders in my lineup just to squeeze into the budget. I have never gotten the impression that anyone at TSN tries this stuff out before going live with it. 3 Riders. Unbelievable.

I'm fine with the review concept; the implementation needs overhauling. Probably the best idea I've seen is getting rid of slow-motion for reviews. If the command center can't tell in real time with multiple looks whether or not it was a penalty, there should be no expectation on the ref to get the original call right with only one look. While running down the field with players moving around him and fans screaming at him. Save slow-mo exclusively for reviewing turnovers, in-bounds/out-of-bounds, etc. When it comes to pass interference, the biggest problem isn't whether reviews are used or not, it's the appearance of a lack of a single standard and definition of what constitutes pass interference, and getting all refs to call it to that same standard.
