  1. Because Floyd always blames Maurice. Woof that was a stinker. I guess it's to be expected now that other teams are putting their shutdown lines against Tanev. Jets will need to find some secondary scoring soon.
  2. I have been quite critical of Enstrom at times. To play defence in the NHL at his size there is not much margin for error. In the past there has been too much error. This season has been a lot better. Even if he isn't physical, he has had sound body and stick positioning when defending. He just hasn't been healthy. This season he's been our 2nd best defenceman on that side. The Jets are better with him in the lineup and hopefully he's ready for the playoffs.
  3. Unfortunately the title "greatest QB ever in CFL history" has already been claimed by Manziel, so CK will have to settle for beating Manziel's CFL passing records. First completed pass should do it. Muamba capspace benefit aside, I would prefer he sign somewhere other than Montreal - I'm enjoying their dumpster-fireness of late.
  4. Every press conference is a PR move. I'm not sure why people get weird about that abbreviation. Maybe it's too close to PC? There's a lot being read into this that isn't there. Seems pretty straight forward. We made our best offer, they want more. We won't/can't go higher and after 3 weeks they have made no move to go lower. They haven't called us back. We're assuming they're not interested, we're moving on. And, just for comparison and perspective, the amount of money they wanted was more than what we're paying Harris, who is our highest paid Canadian. Good on Walters for politely and publicly telling Hardaway we're done with his nonsense. If Muamba wanted to be in Montreal and he was getting a better offer from Montreal, he would have already signed there. So at least one of those two things isn't the case. Does Hardaway call us back now? Maybe, but unlikely. That means he has to be the one bringing flowers this time. He won't want to lose face to do our deal, and he can't save face without Walters' help. Another trip to the podium and some more PR. But enough reality, too boring. Let's go back to the version where Muamba was screaming into the phone at Walters "YO MOTHERFARMER, MAKE ME THE HIGHEST PAID CANADIAN IN THE LEAGUE OR I'M SLITTING YOUR THROAT AND USING YOUR CORPSE FOR A DIAPER GENIE!", or something like that.
  5. I just feel bad for Comrie's parents. How do they go outside and face the neighbours after a showing like that? Even if the local grocer delivers, can you trust that he won't just fling the milk and eggs at the front door in disgust?
  6. "Vince McMahon can kiss my AAF!!!" - Charlie Ebersol
  7. There are those who think the Jets not tanking and still ending up with Patrik Laine would indicate otherwise.
  8. Sounds like a gooder. But pre-camp hype usually ends up as a kiss of death for these guys... Short term he's probably playing for a PR spot. If SAM projects as his best fit in the CFL, that's a pretty steep learning curve anyway. Different landmarks, covering an ocean of space for what feels like an eternity, and that sweet sweet waggle.
  9. Lots of cap savings now that Phillip Nelson has made Nichols expendable...
  10. I like the ratio flexibility that Muamba would provide and I hope we can find a way to sign him. I would prefer to not have to declare more than 5 NI's on offence until it is necessitated by injury. That said, he wasn't scheduled to be a free agent this year. This team had a plan for the roster and who they wanted to sign. Presumably they have already done that. If we are unable to sign Muamba, it does not affect the plan. Muamba was never part of the plan. He is an unexpected opportunity; one I hope we can take advantage of.
  11. While it's pretty difficult to quantify talent as you move deeper into the roster, describing our NI depth as razor-thin seems way off the mark. I'd expect that at least 4 teams in the league would gladly trade for our terrible NI predicament. So which unrealistic expectation is the reason for describing our NI roster as razor-thin? - The idea that our 7th NI starter isn't as good as our 1st? - The idea that half of our NI's probably aren't good enough to be trusted with regular snaps on the starting 24? - The idea that if we have a couple of injuries to our 7 starters our team won't be nearly as good as when they were healthy? Seems to me all 9 teams are in that same situation.

  13. Also, keep in mind that while getting Muamba would be really helpful, it's because of the ratio flexibility he offers, not necessarily because he'll play the position any better than Bobby Import Jr (2nd generation CFLer). There are pros and cons to signing Muamba. I'm entirely in favour of doing it, but that doesn't mean we're screwed if we don't, and we might find a really good use for the money we saved come October.
  14. Sort of but not exactly. You have to budget for all sorts of things including money yet to be spent. Draft picks still need to be signed. Guys will get injured. Players will still come available in the fall after the NFL makes it's cuts. The team will budget most likely according to position groupings and then signed according to those budgets. This year QBs probably got more than last, but the DL group might have been less. Receivers are probably higher, RB's higher, secondary level, LB's lower, Oline higher. So now after FA has started and you've signed players within those budgets, finding an extra $120,000 (over S-Knox) for your MAC who came available after these decisions were already made isn't so easy. You can sneak 10k here and there from these other areas, but that still doesn't get to $120k. So if Walters wants to make this happen he has to do something irresponsible and take money away from one of those original 3 groups. I'm sure some of what we're offering came from there as well, but you can't leave those accounts empty. That's like the City of Winnipeg fixing a pool with money from the snow clearing budget and hoping this year it stays above zero during winter. It's a bad idea.
  15. Probably a multi-year deal where they add money to year 2 and/or 3 to make up for what they aren't able to offer in year 1 due to cap limitations. Considering Muamba has recently got burned on the off-season bonus along with several high-profile players, I can see why an offer that has less up-front cash and more deferred would be unappealing.
  16. To be specific, it's the lower-upper part of their front-back on the left-right side. The Jets aren't likely to alter their playoff-seeding at this point, so while it would be nice if our guys were back this week, anytime before the playoffs will make me not have the sadsies.
  17. What does this even mean? What is the difference between him signing with someone tomorrow vs 2 weeks ago? Or 2 weeks from now? None. Maybe he's considering retirement. Maybe someone is his family is getting tested for a health issue, and the answer would be the deciding factor as to whether he plays close to home or not. Maybe he's spending two weeks on the beach before the season starts. Maybe as a Christian he has decided to spend a few weeks praying. Or all of the above. Or none. This age of instant information has created a weird atmosphere of entitlement. There are a lot of people here who have zero information and choose to fill in those blanks by thinking he's being a Richard. Why? The only thing I've ever heard him publicly say about his free agency was his "working on it" comment on twitter, which was simply a non-response to a fan question. Those who prefer to fill in the blanks that way are saying volumes more about their character. As for his value, he is an undisputed starter-caliber Canadian playing at a non-traditional position. For the teams wanting Muamba's services, there is no "blue-chip" player that will negatively affect his value. Until he proves it on the field, every blue-chip player is just the next Duane Slay or Aaron Maybin. Maybe Jevaris Jones is going to be a 2018 CFL all-star. For now he is nothing but another name, maybe the first cut in rookie camp. Whomever doesn't sign Muamba will be forced to use that guy. The only way they are choosing to use that guy is once they can't afford Muamba. That guy will have zero impact on how much Muamba gets paid.
  18. His parents still live in Montreal as far as I know. So no, it wouldn't be simply money related. Getting Muamba is not the be-all end-all when it comes to having a dominant middle linebacker. There are plenty of comparably skilled linebackers out there (or better) that will cost us a lot less. They don't have a Canadian passport though. My Canadian passport cost around $80. Henoc's is worth at least $110,000, as that's the extra dough someone will have to pay him over a comparable import. I agree with KBF that signing Muamba could be the tipping point for us winning the cup this year, but it's because of the ratio flexibility he would give us at other positions on the field when injuries pile up over 18+ games, not because without him tackles won't get made in the middle.
  19. Edited above post. Also, I think I'll go for Chinese tonight.
  20. No one has to cut anyone at this time of year to sign another player*, and in May everyone will have to cut about 35 players because of signing more than 46. And all 9 teams will have to balance talent, ratio and salary when selecting those 35 casualties, just like every other year. So your question doesn't really work - any signing will result in a player getting cut once we're beyond 46**. *unless they somehow were silly enough to exceed the offseason roster max in March. ** + IR, +6g IR, + PR, + + + since it's the CFL afterall. Edit - Obviously I realize a logical explanation is pointless considering TBurg is simply being argumentative, but I figured what the hey, it's Friday. And even though everything I put in the above statement is not opinion, but FACTUAL, he will likely choose to argue it anyways. And he can find someone else to participate in this silliness with, because I don't care.

  23. Irony much?
  24. Of course there's no contract. That's why we have no business pointing to the money he's already received this year:
